View Full Version : Nuklear Age Wallpaper

This seemed so obvious, yet it appears to be absent from the main page and (as far as an exhaustive, 30 second, search) absent from the net as well. Since there is nothing quite like procrastination, I decided to make this wallpaper instead of doing homework. Though, as a warning, it does sport Nuklear Age colors.
Ze Wallpaper: 1024x768 Danger: Desktop (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768DD.png)
As a side note, I am not particularly happy with the anti-aliasing so I may update this at some point. Probably when I am not crushed under the veritable mountain that is college.

Obvious indeed. Very nice work, although there are obvious disadvantages you already hinted at and that can be summed up with GAH MY EYES! THE GOGGLES, THEY DO NOTHING!
But I guess that can't be helped. Again, good work and very funny.

Hah! Excellent! As I have a +6 to Save vs. Colors, it's time to give my cow-orkers a migraine.

Having seen the above wallpaper, my girlfriend was amussed and... well, the short of it is, I saw no reason to keep new wallpapers a secret.
Hence 1024x768 Danger: Girlfriend (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768DG.png)
and
1024x768 Danger: Girlfriend - Blue! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768BlueDG.png)
She wasn't terribly fond of the color scheme. As others have indicated, it burns her eyes like the scourge of some fictional desert. Hence, blue. Heresy, perhaps, but perhaps a little easier on some people's eyes.
And, as a side note, it is apparently REALLY easy to add new "Danger: Phrases" so if people aren't happy with the Danger: Desktop or the Danger: Girlfriend, just let me know and I'll see how reasonable it is to make a Danger: Phrase to your liking.
And (because I like starting sentances with that word) I am glad people seem to like it. Thank you for your comments. I just wish I could take credit for it. After all, it is Brian's joke, I just twisted it into retna burning backgrounds.
Thanks again

you should make a danger:awesome one. with atomik lads motif.

I would, but there are two problems with such a wallpaper.
1) The Danger: Phrase gag centers around Nuklear Man, Atomik Lad seems to dislike the labels. Hence, it doesn't make much sense to use his motiff.
2) While I blayantly violated copyright protection laws (or blayantly used fair use laws) in order to create a Nuklear Man motiff (that is, I used the book as a guideline), I cannot do the same for Atomik Lad. While, from the description in the book, I can guess at the Atomik symbol, the colors are much harder. I took my previous colors straight from the book, but I really dislike the Atomik Lad colors I have come up with. For example: 1024x768 Atomik Age (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768AG.png)
Jagged lines aside, the A looks weird, the radioactive symbol doesn't mesh well, and the colors aren't just clashing, they are waging all out war. I would like to get such a wallpaper completed but it will be a while before I can take requests for that motiff.

How about Danger: Window? Or for our elitist friends, Danger: Mac. Replace the N with a fast food burger and get the aproriately labled Danger: Big Mac.
Edit: Also, for Sparky the colors are Crimson and complementary shade of blue, something dark.

I'd go with a Royal blue, that always looks pimp :D but seriously nice on the wallpapers :)

I'm not dead yet.
Anywho, thank you everyone for the comments. As for requests, as far as the ones that seem possible, I currently have backlogged:
Danger: Folder
Danger: Background
Danger: Mac (Macintosh?)
Danger: Window (Windows?)
Did I miss any? I will (hopefully) be able to post some wednesday (I will be dead until then). And, if I also have the time, I'll try to clean up some of the others too.
Thanks again.
Oh, random curiosity: Is there much/any interest in backgrounds of different screen sizes?

Except for how that would kind of defeat the purpose of a screen-saver, which is to prevent burn-in. If you have a nice monitor it wouldn't matter, though.

Danger: Cursor
Danger: Linux
And on the subject of icons....
Danger: File
Danger: Computer
Danger: Trash (Recycle Bin) (Whatever)
Danger: Internet
Just some suggestions. I very likely won't use any of those.
Also, there's a way to make custom start-up and shutdown screens, and it's supposed to be easily doable. You might consider that.

Nowadays the purpose of a screen-saver tradition. And to be busy. Having a desktop staring back at me when I come back after several hours is kinda dull.

I didn't lie, it is still Wednesday! (for me, at least)
Anywho, here are two new wallpapers (following the established, eye-blinding theme).
I present:
Danger: Mac (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768DM.png)
and
Danger: Windows (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768DW.png)
As a special bonus, here is a newer version of the Atomik Age (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/1024x768AA.png) Wallpaper that I have been working on. Though I am somewhat happier with the colors, I am still working on the specifics. Hopefully I'll have it complete before Brian completes AA himself.

I'll add it to my list, Kenshin. Though, as a warning, it may be a while in coming. Free time and schooling tend to be mutually exclusive. However, hopefully next time I post I'll have another two wallpaper bases open. The final version of Atomik lad and a test for something I like to call "Iron: Age"

Nice wallpapers Thought, though if you don't mind a few inputs, how about redoing the nuklear logo in vectors? Supah smooth, dude! I could do it, but I don't have the slightest idea of which font is that you used.
EDIT: I gave it a go, but the font still looks wrong. It's Impact with faux italic at 90% horizontal scale.

Vectors? I am afraid I am a tad (read: totally) unfamiliar with them, though when I get back to my own computer I will attempt to become familiar, since your work is very nice and clean.
As for my font, unfortunately I don't know. I purchased a new computer and the new one has barely 1/2 the number of fonts that my old computer did. I think what I used was Hecalivian or something that looks vaguely like that. For the newer wallpapers, which I made on this new computer, I used Impact as well (and then I used the Free Transform function in Photoshop to match up the letters as near as I could).
Thanks a lot for the feedback, I hope to impliment it as soon as is reasonable.

I had to save it as a animated cursor (.ani) in order to save the color quality. But it'll still work as a icon file if you look for it as "All files" in the browsing window.
Tested on Win XP.

I really dig the Danger: Desktop, and it's now my wallpaper as well.
And to whoever did the Atomik Lad wallpaper, it wasn't bad. However, I think there should be more red/less blue, and the 'A' should be thinner. Make it a thin triangle. It's just my thought, so feel free to play with it.

Right, I'm not dead yet. Would you believe I've been busy... for the last 7 months straight? How about, I couldn't find a good font? What can I say, Grad School is a vile, vile thing.
Unfortunately, I was unable to use your creation, GoldenPlatypus. It turned out to be quicker, and cleaner looking, to use vectors, especially since that gave me all the layers I'll ever need, if something happens to need a-changing. Thanks, though, for the info on the vectors.
So yes, the following plethora of files are, in fact, new (and cleaner) backgrounds, as have been requested (with a new Danger Desktop as well). Enjoy, it might be another 7 months before I can revise the Atomik Lad background and finish Angus'.

After careful analysis, taking into consideration all probable and improbable causes, I have concluded that I have no idea what could be causing the problem. I've tried everything I can think of, on multiple computers, and I can't find a problem. If anyone knows a good/free file hosting site I could try uploading a zip file there. Or, if you prefer, I could email the files to you as well. If all else fails, I could also try emailing them to you if you so desire.
Anyone else have this problem?

Gasp, what is this? Yet another new(ish) wallpaper? And it has only been a day?!
I recreated my interpretation of Atomik Lad's insignia using vectors, so it is all nice and smooth. It seems a little lackluster when compared to Nukie's, so if anyone has any suggestions I will most certainly consider them. I plan on making "Atomik Age," "Danger: Sidekick," and "Sparky" versions at some point, and if anyone has a reasonable request for phrasing I will attempt that as well (eventually).
Atomik Lad (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/AtomikTest.png)
Now I just need to work on Angus' background (at least AL's insignia had a description in the text, I am guessing for the Iron Scottsman).

Atomik Age (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/AtomicAge.png)
If possible, I will try to fix any problems that people see (and the usual changing of phrases, on request) but this was far more complex than any of the others so changes may be limited. Bonus points to whoever can figure out what the base was.
Edit: Oh, and here is a more "traditional" Atomik Lad (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/HuginMunin/ALalt.png) sans the interpretation.
