I am starting an RP for a group of eight people. The characters arte fighter or bomber pilots for a mercenary squadron called, "Fox Fire". This group will undertake both air to air and air to ground missions. The pilots should have diverse backgrounds and should not all be Tom Cruise clones. The aircraft you fly is your choice within reason. REMEMBER, you have to be able to buy your fighter off the black market, so it is very unlikely you will have an F-22 or aircraft of the like. More than likely you will have aircraft from the 80's time period to early 90's. When you post your character I will take a look at it and approve it and your fighter.
Thanks, and good luck.

I feel the strange desire to join, though aircraft ain't my specialty...
Name: Colonel Dmitri "Dim" Volkov
Callsign: "Daddy-O"
Age: 58
Gender: Male
Aircraft: Stolen Su-37 "Super Flanker"
Bio: Formerly from the Russian Air Force, Dmitri flew many missions and has a lot of experience. However, he was downsized in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union, and looking for work, he hooked up with Fox Fire. He flew his old MiG-29 for a while before he managed to obtain a brand-new Su-37 from under the government's noses. An experienced dogfighter, Dmitri prefers to keep his mouth shut, his eyes open, and himself always ready to act in uncertain situations, which has saved his hide more than once.
His Super Flanker is ridiculously agile, but because it is a prototype fighter there are still a few bugs with its avionics and equipment. Though his ground crews try their best to keep it functioning normally, Dmitri still has to compensate for unexpected circumstances sometimes. In addition, due to a dearth of missiles, he has had to rely on his GsH cannon a lot more than before, but being that he always favored the GsH anyway, it is no big handicap.

Alright, your in. I was wondering who would post a Russian pilot first. For anyone else intertested you can get a good look at many aircraft by going to this site. http://www.globalaircraft.org/
Even if you don't have much aircraft experiance, you can still play. If anything, give it a try. Also, if you need a bit of insight on the subject you can go here:
http://www.combatsim.com/htm/jan99/ACM-pt1a.htm
But you don't feel that you need to read it to play.

oooo, screw blades of fate, i'm gonna sign up for this!
gimme a sec to make up a character, i already know the plane i want.
-----------
Name: Marc Taggart
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Callsign: "Swatter" (derived from flyswatter)
Aircraft: A-10 Thunderbolt II Custom
Bio: Taggart comes from a long line of aeronautical engineers and doubles as an aircraft mechanic when he's not flying. It's unsure why he didn't join the military but it's obvious that he has some sort of grudge. The A-10 II Taggart flies was customized by himself, it has increased engine power to allow the plane an extra 200 mph of speed. However, these engine modifications must be shut off so extra power can be generated for the plane's secret weapon, a modified PHALANX anti-missile system.
Description: Taggart puts to bed the myth that large men don't make good pilots. He stands at 6' 1" and has the build of a football player. Brown hair and blue eyes, he seems to be an average individual until one speaks with him, and it is then that most are shocked by the razor sharp intellect hidden behind the big man. Taggart has a preference for big guns, and this can sometimes get him into trouble. He also has a tendency to believe his calculations over the real world.
Quote: "If you think my plane sucks ‘cause it’s slow, then you’re an idiot!" "Swift rain is still just rain." "Don't mess with me, I fly a tank."
------Addidion-----------
Strength: Air to ground combat
Weakness: Air to air combat
Specialty: Area defense and bunker busting.
Other notes on the plane: In initial combat testing, often the first thing to go was the advanced computer systems which operated the PHALANX and coordinated with ground based radar. In this model, the systems have been armored, but are still the main weakness of the plane. Although not required for the aircraft to fly, the computer systems are vital to defensive countermeasures. The engines are not geared specifically toward getting the plane’s speed up, but to increase it’s payload capacity...if one were to put this into car terms, the plane has little horsepower, but a shit ton of torque.

Name: Nigel Longfellow
Age: 39
Callsign: "Limey"
Aircraft: Tornado IDS "Pride and Joy IV"
Bio: Nigel is a distinguished officer of the Royal Air Force, and comes from a long line of RAF pilots, dating back to WWI. On sorties, Nigel likes to keep his Tornado armed with ALARM and HARM missiles, or Paveway bombs (depending on mission specifics), as well as a set of sidewinders for defence. Although he would prefer to fly the ADV varient of the Tornado, his job has him working for many forgen countires, and the RAF would rather keep thier latest aircraft out of curious hands.
Description: Four generations of Longfellows have served in the RAF. From the biplanes of WWI, the Harriers in the Falkland Islands. Nigel's civillian and military life has been privilaged, but thats not to say the Nigel is spoiled. An acomplished pilot, Nigel flew a number of sorties over Iraq, and has earned his rank of Flight Sergeant. Recently, he joined an outreach program of the RAF, that lends out pilots and aircraft to countries in need of experienced airmen. Working in this forgen atmosphere got Nigel his nickname of "Limey".
Nigel is a stick of a man, at about 120lbs, and is about six feet in height. He has light brown hair that he keeps cut short, and steel-blue eyes.

Johnny Socko, your cool. Welcome in.
GatoFiero, I am bit weary of these modifications. I know what a phalanx is, but where is it on your aircraft, how does it work, and where does it draw power from? Second, The engine mod is a bit far fetched, only becuase the turbine engines on the A-10 is not designed for that, and I don't think there is a turbine on the planet designed for that otherwise the A-10 would have it. So I will make you this deal. You can have the engine mod if you agree that it is a mod not intended for the engine design. If you do activate it, there is a decent chance that your engines and your plane could very well explode, and even if it does work they may fly apart at any time. It is not a matter of wiring here, its a matter of structural integrity.
GatoFiero
12-13-2003, 10:40 PM
Alright, le' see 'ere, I’m willing to just drop the PHALANX, cause it would just add a shit ton of weight and make it rely on too much advanced electronics. But i would like to point out, any engine can generate electricity, that's why I said that the other engine mods would have to be turned off, this would free up power for the system. But none of that matters, the only reason i included it was because i was hoping to get away with it.
The engine mods I’ll fight for. As far as i can tell, those engines have not been upgraded since the 70s. That means there are sure as hell better engines by now. Structural integrity is a problem, even if you reinforce the plane's structural integ there is still increased chance for a critical malfunction since the engines placed on the aircraft would not be what the aircraft was designed for. Its my estimate that you can't get much more than 200 mph out of that plane without drastic aerodynamic modifications.
In the end though, I’m willing to go with a straight A-10 if ya want. It's a good enough aircraft as it is right now. I just wanted to try and fix it's main flaw.

12-13-2003, 10:45 PM
Alright man, I will meet you half way here. The max speed of the A-10 is 420 mph (Mach 0.56). How about we do a trade off here, speed for fuel. That would seem logical anyhow. How about some system that would temporarily overclock your turbines (Much like the emergency war power systems WWII aircraft had), in a trade off for very much increased fuel consumption. Though this system could not be run for extended periods of time, it would give you the needed speed boost if the situation arises. That system would temporarily boost your speed to 600 mph, 625 mph if in the wind ^_^.

I've done my share of pilot RPs, So I guess I'll pop in here.
Name: Seras Varti
Age: 25
Callsign: Cobra
Aircraft: restored MiG-29
Bio: A rather young, up-and-coming pilot, Seras started out as a mechanic keeping up some old T-6 Texans for a local flight school. The leader of the group also knew of a nearby scrapyard for planes, and for appreation for her work, she was givin a Mig-29 to do with as she pleased. Five years and a bunch of money later, she had it fixed up to a point where it was possable to fly it, however she didn't have the right fuel for it, and some of the more sophisicated electronics were still unavalabe to her, until she found out about a composite squadren was being formed, so she signed up, forfitting a fraction of her pay to allow for the neccary equipment to be installed.
Discription: 5'8", 138 lbs, grey eyes, short dark brown hair, Can be hotheaded at times, especally when frustrated. During down time, she can often be found playing cards.
Why not...
Name: Johan Venkmaü
Callsign:Fritz
Aircraft:Focke-Wulf 190 (just have to try it ;))
Bio: Being one of the last cadets to exit the german aerial akademy in the second world war (16 then) he is the oldest flying mercenary in the group and will not try out any of that new handy dandy elecrtical stuff, the only words he utters when anybody tries to convince him to change is "Arschloch" and some other explicit german words
Description of your Character: He is 66 years old and looks like a grouchy grandpa, but behind his fragile exterior there is a energetic childlike pilot

How's this?
Name: Benjamin Alder (24)
Callsign: Spook
Aircraft: Stolen MiG-29 "Fulcrum"
A relatively inexperienced mercenary, Ben began his career with the U.S. government as a brilliant field agent with the FBI's undercover unit. He was quickly picked up by CIA, and behind the scenes, was taken up by NSA for operations in hostile territory. He's something of an everyman in his combat skills, on foot and in the air, but demonstrated a penchant for dramatic dogfighting tactics in his 3 week intensive flight training. His first operation found him in North Korea, as an independent cell with one goal: the destruction of their present nuclear armaments and halting of their research program...by any means necessary. After the successful detonation of 2 warheads in an underground storage bunker, his presence was discovered by the North Koreans and his existence denied by the Americans. With nowhere left to run, Ben found himself at a training airbase. Leaving a slug in the back of a Veteran pilot's head, he escaped to the south...barely, after taking heavy AA fire near the border. He took serious damage to proprietay parts on his craft, namely the function of The RD-33 Turbofans and advanced slot back radar. Speed was therefore reduced from mach 2.3 to a mere mach 1.2 with the installation of lesser quality parts. Scanner range is also fairly well impaired.
Quote: "Trust is best placed in 3 things I hold dear: me, myself, and ECM rocket pods"
Description: Taller, about 6'2", Lean, muscular, with short brown hair kept spiked at all times. An agreeable, if mysterious guy, socially apt, but typically reserved. Honorable and loyal to his friends to the last drop of blood.
P.S. His ass is broke! He uses money from contracts both in and out of his plane to restock, live, and save up the 3 million he needs for black market engines. He doesn't touch the savings account.

Great, we got six. I would like to get two more but if we don't have em by friday I will go ahead and start. Does that sound agreeable to everyone?
RangerAidan and Flarecobra your good. Tor, if you really want that FW-190 its yours, but I won't be held responsible for anything lol! The only this is this RP takes place in late 2004. So that would make your character have to be 76 if he came out of the German flight academy of WWII.
ah ok my bad, wastired when I made him... but I want my wolf

Anyone ever see "Final Countdown?" Something tells me that FW won't be lasting too long...
Unless it's used in a surprise attack. I mean, it'd catch me off guard to be fighting jets, and then a WW2 fighter slips through and gets a kill or two.

Yeah, I am gonna wait until friday to see if we can get two more pilots. If not then we will begin. Just on a side note. You will all start with 2 million dollars in an encyrpted bank account. This is money you can use to purchase armaments for your aircraft. I am working on a price list for all missiles and bombs. You will also be paid additional funds for completing missions and getting enemy kills.

just had an idea while talking with Jigen IRL. what if we loaded up the FW with rocket pods or cluster dispensers, then myself and the A-10 occupy ground defenders, and the rest of you guys take the air defenders, the FW goes in and strafes the ground targets (at like 150mph or whatever it cruises at)?

Alright guys, I will have the first thread up a little bit later today. Just a quick explanation of how I run games. When not in combat it is pretty free form, you can talk, walk, ect as much as you wish. When on a mission and in combat it works a little different. To keep things in a bit of an order, I make a post describing what is going on, what any enemies in the area are doing, and any other factors, then each of you posts your actions for that round both in story form and in a small list at the bottom. You each get four combat actions per turn. Post them under your story post like this:
1. Break hard right pulling in shallow dive
2. Release Flare
3. Aquire missile lock
4. Fire Aim-9 Sidewinder
Remeber, the list only applies when you are in combat. Basic flying in your jet does not require an action, but dodge meauvers do. Just be sure to describe what your doing in detail in your story post so that I can easily understand what it is your doing, and second, it will make the game a lot more fun for everyone. Below is a list of actions that are considered "Combat Actions"
-Dodging missiles or gunfire
-aquiring missile lock
-positioning for a gun shot
-releasing flare of chaff
-firing guns or missiles
-ejecting
I will see how the game runs, might change it to five combat actions depending on how it goes.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
One more thing, I tend to reward for creativity. So the better and more descriptive or creative your posts are the better off you will probably be. ^_^
