(OOC) Since the last part went a bit out of control, We're just going to wipe everything that happoned after this post:
The number of drunks had been diminished, but the standard guard had increased as cries for help and reinforcements came out. "Well, guess its time for somethings from my bag of tricks," Mag muttered, and began to say the words to his spell. He he brought up his staff and pointed it at a large group of guards. When Mag finished his spell, with a deafening WHUMP, all the guards were scattered and thrown in all directions, knocking over others and increasing the chaos. Mag quickly ran and jumped up on a hoarse and shouted to the others, "Now is as good a time as any to leave, let's go, all of you!"

"Then I advise we go there quickly, I'm an old man and can't keep this up forever," Mag told him, using another of his blasts to throw the guards into disarray. <Hmm, why does this all seem so familiar.> He thought, then shook it off and went back to slowing down the guards.

Galen had been busy up to this point, disarming guards, and sending them running with light scratches and cuts. While he proceeded with this he also relieved several guards of their daggers, thrusting spares into his belt and pack as fast as he could. All in all, he picked up about 4 daggers.

As the human burst out the stable door, another two guards arrived holding the young elf thief by his shoulders. The guards found the lead guard and addressed him and the group of strangers. "We found a trail of blood leading to an old warehouse. Thought someone was in trouble so we broke down the door. Instead, we found this little guy. Appears he's been stealing for quite some time. He's the one there's "Wanted" signs all over for. And I would bet that these heathens are in cahoots with him. Word on the street has it that you were seen talking to him."
The guards drew their swords and held them to the elf's neck. "If you want your partner in crime to survive, drop your weapons and step backward ten paces."
The elf struggled in their grasp. The pressure on his arm was making him wince with pain.

Fwip Fwip Fwip
Three throwing knives hit the three guards in their calves, the lead gurad dropping the elf to the ground in pain. From the rafters of the stable Jack dropped.
I'll be dambed. I bet I'll never be that accurate ever again ...
The elf felt himself pulled to his feet, an hand gripping his wrist. Pulling him out of the stable while the guards were still slightly stunned Jack swore a barrage of curses at him.
"Dammit. How the hell are you supposed to avenge your parents in jail or dead?" He lectured as they ran for their lives. "You're lucky I saw everything and could get to you in time."
Laughing as they ran on, "You and your luck. You never seem to run out."
Tradesman Jack stopped for a quick breather scanning all around to see if they had been spotted yet. "It's good to see you, old friend. Like the beard? I guess I'll have to shave it now that I'm an accomplice to a wanted man."
Wiping the sweat from his forehead with a dirty glove, he looked around at the alley the were hiding in. "Well, now ... we can't very well run out of here can we. Running makes you guilty of something in the minds of the city watch, don't ask me why. ... ... ... we'll either have to scale the city wall, or go through the sewers. Either way, we're not welcome here. We should duck out and lay low for a while."

The elf considered taking him back to his hideaway, but remembered the guards. There must be at least a dozen laying siege to the place by now. I wish I had a chance to at least sleep in my bed one more time.
He motioned to the wall. It was about three blocks to the north, but they could cut through the alleys behind the buildings. There was also one other way out of town: a small network of tunnels had been constructed under the town as a shelter against the dragon attacks. If they could get to an entrance without being seen, there would be no problem escaping the remaining guard detail. But they didn't have the time. The wounded guards were calling for help as were all the rest. Moaning filled the air until it simply sounded like gusts of wind. Guards would be there with swords drawn, ready to kill.
They would have to make a break for the wall...
Demon with a Glass Hand
12-08-2003, 11:26 PM
"Okay. On three we make a break for the east wall. If we're lucky we can head into the dragon territory and lose them there."
Jack thought he noticed hesitation in his friend's eyes. "Either we risk the dragon territory or we risk life in jail ... or death. On three ... one ... two ... three ... GO!"
Making a break for the east wall, weaving through alleyways and streets Jack wrestled with the length of rope looped through a clasp on his backpack. Behind them they could both hear the sounds of the city watch being rallied.
They didn't have much time ...
Stopping in an alley close to the wall, Jack tied a hook to the end of the rope. Flinging it up onto the roof of a large warehouse he tugged the line to make sure that it was secure.
"After you, Elf. We take this to the roofs as far as we can get to the wall."

"I think they've given up." Draca sadi, looking back and seeing no persuers behind them. "By the way, thanks for helping me back there. My name's Draca, by the way." she said. When I overflew I saw that a couple of men on horseback were giving chase. I gave the horses a scare by flying low right in front of them, and they threw them men, who, unfortunaly, were then trampled by the horses as they ran away." Mag sat quetly and observed the happenings before him. His first response was anger at the dragon and half-dragon, but after some rational thought, he told himself that these were not the crazed animals responsible for the destruction befalling the land. He knew that this was one of the wise dragons, a somewhat dying breed compared to the more brutal and savage version invading these lands, so he put aside his emotion to learn more about the situation before respondng.

Galen watched the wizard with a mixture of interest and respect. Magic was something he had always wanted to try, but there had be so little time...
Perhaps the old man will deign to help me
With that thought, "You must be a mighty wizard to defeat those guards so easily. Perhaps you could teach me a trick or two? I could make it worth your while...?"

Mag looked at the man requesting knowledge in magic. "First off, you cannot simply teach anyone magic, you need to have the gift of magic in you first. And second, I won't accept payment to teach magic to others." Mag sat for a second looking imperious, then smiled. "I will teach you for free however." He hoped off of his horse and pulled back the long sleeves of his robes, happy to be doing something he enjoyed. "To truley begin to learn magic you need some sort of staff, preferably of a good wood. Not any weapon will do, and not any material, which is why so many magic users use staffs, now, after that you need some parchment..." The great Magrolion spoke, as he started to teach a student the vast history of magic.

Suroz decided to take a load off his feet, so he sat down. He grabbed the Earth Stone from around his neck, and felt it. It was warm. It usually reacted to strong magic. It must be reacting to that mage. Suroz put it back. Hopefully, he wasn't one of those mages that wander around looking for magical artifacts. He had taken a liking to the mage.
He wouldn't want to have to kill him.

"So... I need quality wood to produce magic. Would it be possible to put that wood in maybe a sword? Like having a cord running through the middle?"

"Well, I wouldn't recommend it, because the metal would dampen your magic, but it would be possible to do. Just realize, if you take that path, don't expect to go around, hurling fireballs and blowing up cities! No, you'll be able to perform some of the lower level magic over a closer range would be the best. Actually, it might work fine if that was the intent, there are a few interesting charms I could teach you in that instance," Mag said to his interested student.

The pair of outlaws bounded from one roof to the next using all the strength in their legs. The man seemed skilled with his tools, but the elf was not to be outdone. He leapt off the next roof, kicked off the wall of an adjacent building, and shoved his dagger into the wooden facade of the fletcher's store.
As the man jumped he accidentally brushed a pot placed on the edge of the roof. It dropped to the ground and shattered, causing everyone to look up...including the guards. They were alerted and within seconds had their bows and arrows at the ready. They caught the two in their sights and let fly. They managed to dodge the first wave with ease, most of the arrows hitting the walls or overshooting them. But they did not know how much longer they could keep this up.
The guards readied a second wave and raised their weapons to the sky. The two were quickly approaching the city wall. They would only have one chance at this.

Jack was in a panic to say the least.
After all his many 'honest' adventures, here he was again. Again he was running from the law. And why? For a friend in trouble. A friend who just happened to be wrong, but a friend nonetheless.
Maybe it was time to find new friends.
Dammit. I've been saving this for a rainy day ... hope it does what that old man said it would ...
Slightly behind, he stopped and yelled to his friend not to wait for him. Without question he ran on, giving Jack a thumbs up. Jerking out of the way of an arrow speeding past his head he threw the tiny, liquid filled globe down onto the masses of guards and innocent people alike. Turning away quickly and sprinting for the wall he listened as the guards and town folk yelped as a blinding flash redered them blind for a few seconds.
A few seconds that would aid the two runners well.
Making it to the wall, Jack threw the hook up and over. Seconds before they both slid down the opposite side, the two friends heard the sound of arrows being shot in a wide arc.
Running like hell they they could only hope that luck served them as a hail of arrows rained down.

"Say, if you all want to, You could stay at me and my mother's place tonight. It's nearby, and it's a fairly large house, and I don't think she'd mind too much." Draca said, noticing that the sun was starting to go down.

The two raced away from the wall, arrows swarming after them. They were landing all around their feet and most missed. However, a few managed to reach their target. The elf reached up his arms and deflected the arrows with his gauntlets. He then withdrew a small plate of mythril, about seven inches square, from his vest, gave it to his friend, and directed him to hold it above his head to defend against the oncoming bolts.
That was all the mythril he had been able to escape from his home with safely. He had no fire hot enough to forge anything out of it, so there really was no point in holding on to it.
Demon with a Glass Hand
12-10-2003, 08:56 PM
Grabbing the mithril and holding it behind his head, Jack yelled a derogatory prayer as seconds later an arrow pinged off the plate.
"I'll have you know that I'm going to keep this, Elf." He laughed as they ran out of the archer's range. "Consider it payment for getting you out of trouble again."
Excited with his new aquisition, he no longer felt bad that he had to use up his last 'magic gimmik' escaping the guards. He was busy fanatasizing about what he would make with it when next he was at a forge when he ran into a hulking figure, bowling the both of them over.
"Ow ... dammit. My head." He mumbled, rubbing his forehead. "Terribly sorry, ... uh ..."
The large Half Elf that he ran into didn't look happy to be knocked over. He looked positively livid, actually ...

Jack sighed. Stupid friends. Always getting him in more trouble than he could get into on his own.
Looking down at the ground and then back at the large elf that was holding up at least two feet off the ground, he tried to smile and sound polite.
"Terribly sorry, sir. My fault entirely." A big, toothy, teeth chattering smile. "Wasn't paying attention to where my feet were taking me."
Shrugging, he added. "But, hey! It could happen to anyone right?" Big, toothy smile. "I'm not a theif, good sir. Though I certainly will not take offense at being called one." He looked down at the ground again and back up at the half elf. "You obviously have the advantage."
"As for him," He pointed a thumb over to his friend. "He was trying to catch up with you so that he could apologize profusley. Isn't that so?" He threw his friend a dark look.
Bastard! See you get out of this without my help!
A hearty, if not forced, laugh. "So how about you let me down please?"

The elf reluctantly withdrew his prize dagger and gave it back to its rightful owner. He took in the view and, as he scanned the perimeter, saw two dragons, one quite small and one friggin' huge! His heart raced at the sight, but he didn't run. He knew even if he did he would be run down instantly and devoured by white-hot flames. He then noticed the woman form the market had escaped successfully. He had been worried about her welfare since the chase. Such feelings are not natural in a thief. He thought.
He looked up at his companion, still dangling in the air, with a blank look. He motioned with his hand that he'd like the elf to unhand his friend. Apologize profusely? Well, it was some excuse I guess. But, I still feel like stabbing him.

Turning to his friend, "And to think, you thought they wouldn't accept your apology. Nice fellows these be, don't you agree."
His eyes communicated another message.
I'm getting so sick of these types of people. Bump into them and they threaten your life. Dumb Brutes

(OOC) Could've at least let me put up a quick discription first :P
Draca's mother was sittng in the kitchen, next to a table. The chair she was in, however, was diffrent then the other chair. The one her mother was sitting in had wheels on it. (Basically it's an early wheelchair) When the spoon hit Soruz, Draca said "Mother!" "Sorry, the way he rushed in here, I thought he was going to attack me." She said, wheeling over. Her mother appeared to be in her mid-40s, her dark brown hair starting to show signs of greying. "So, who are these people with you?" she asked. Draca told her about what happoned in the town, and what she knew about the others. "Well, for helping my daughter, the least I could do is give you some food and a place to stay for the night."

"It's just some stew. It should be ready soon." She said. "If you want, feel free to look around the house." her mother said. Draca, meanwhile, was hanging up the robe she had on. She did have on some normal clothes on, modified slightly to allow for her tail, and the spines on her back. "It's good to get out of that." She said, moving her tail a bit.

"Parden me." Draca said, stepping through. "To answer your question, you'd only have to look at me to see why I have the robe with me. You knew how paranoid some people are about dragons, and how this place is often a stop for dragon hunters. Imagine how they would feel to see a human-dragon hybrid walking around." she said, reaching up to grab some bowls and giving them to her mother.

"Well for your hospitality I shall play the greatest song I know." He started to play a very melodic tune on his guitar.
"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. "
The tune becomes mournful yet very purposeful. He plays with out singing for a minute or so.
"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven."

Satsu took a bed roll leaving his weapons and guitar in a corner of a room. He helped Draca distribute the bedrolls to those who needed them. They ran out before he had one. "Oh don't worry bought me miss Draca. I hardly sleep, honest."

Suroz opened his left eye, because he had already closed them, and sighed.
"Sure, alright. Let's head outside, though. I think most of the people have already fallen asleep." Suroz and Draca walked outside. The moon was out, and Ryu-yuuki decided to chase after some fireflies. Suroz turned to Draca.
"So, what is it?"

Not able to sleep, Guram arose from his slumber on the bare floor (he was used to that sort of accomodation anyway) and followed the two outside using the shadows for cover. He didn't want any secrets kept during this excursion, especially by people who he just met that afternoon. He slipped around the corner of the house and watched.
