Besides those mental pictures of White Mage naked, is what this work really is. I've seen several posts saying that they thought the book should have been split up into two, that some chapters did not lead into others, or that there was "dead space" in between the overarcing stories. Now I haven't read the whole thing (pesky college classes keep me from my pleasures- Curse you Acadamia!), but Brian has already told us that this isn't your ordinary novel. It's supposed to flow like a comic book- that is, episodically. Well, that sort of story is just going to be a little different than a regular novel, because comics don't always have to do with the main villian or story arc. Heroes can wander down rabbit trails, have their own internal drama, get in tiffs with their side kicks, or go through a myriad of other episodes either while or before actually coming upon the true threat.
Think about T.V. shows. Some episodes move the main characters along a general story line, while others have almost nothing to do with that line at all.
I think it's worked great so far, and it's refreshing to read something that's different from everything else. My favorite part so far was the opening scene, when Nuklear Man stumped that robot with un-logic. :D
