What I'm busy damning is the fact that they're too much of a bunch of marketing whores to release the Planescape setting again.

My only problem is with the fact that having all games be d20 based, you lose much of the flair of learning new systems.

Some games just flow better with an non-d20 game mechanic and yield a much different gaming-feel.

ex: Call of Cthulu, Shadowrun, Earthdawn.
all games that just would never be the same as d20 - based.

This is just a silly thread... The reason you say this is because they don't make the games you like? Why would they listen to you now? Here you go like "Oooh I hate wotc. They make god games crappy." Would you please tell us how they do it and which games it is before going like this again. 'aight?

That's because I work for their competitors Heart Quest

www.seraphimguard.com

Okay maybe their employees hate them more.

maybe some distant parralell universe that is affected by RPGs too and suddenly their land is filled with psychotic adventurers

But me next!

Nah. That's just good business.

I don't care. I preffer GURPS. It is more flexible. You can create any setting, not only medival.

Nah. That's just good business. Like I said. They're not gamers; they're marketing whores. "Good Business" is a lot less so when you realize that good games almost always end up selling like hotcakes, even if they don't start out that way.

So you think they should go ahead and release a book which would only MIGHT make a profit? Almost certainly a LOSS, considering how little the newest generation of players knows about Planescape?
You're just being silly now.

Anyway. Sure, I think Wizards are horrible, commerically-consumed twits. I don't know if I'd say I hate them though; I mean, I still like some of their products, even if I hate the reasons behind the vast majority of it.

Actually, they aren't that evil. They only butchered the world's first RPG, the world's first and formerly greatest CCG, and all things good and holy.

The real demon is Hasbro. The corporate executives of Hasbro should be hanged with their own intestines.

All I'm saying is that they can afford to take a chance. Word of mouth works wonders you wouldn't believe. Not to mention that the fact that convincing enough Sigilians of something will make it true is a fact that will have TONS of draw for both true RPers and the power-obsessed.

People take risks, and the risks work. Did Magic: the Gathering, which gave Wizards most of its success, have a player base ready and waiting? Hell no. They came into being by taking one huge risk, and with all the money they're raking in, they can afford to take a much smaller one.

Nothing personal or anything, Gram. I just think WOTC can take a shot at it without too much of a fiscal dent.

I wasn't around for the older versions of DnD. The game I watched them butcher was Magic the Gathering, which started off as a brilliantly devised and enlightened game. Look to the first edition cards, and note who has the copyright there: the Artist/card designer. Then later additions, WotC gets credit for all of it. In first edition, a 6/6 creature could rule the field provided no one played a */* card. New editions, there are creatures that can deal 20 dammage and destroy you in one turn. Its sort of like an old comic book title now. they keep upping the anti. but what really did it in for me was removing all fantasy material they did not fully own from their shelves (leaving me stranded for Warhammer and Seven Seas). That was when I swore never to set foot in one of their stores ever again.

Man I wish this thread was open. I'd give them an excellent. I figure if they make this much money then dumb asses are willing to buy the crap they must not suck that much.

No, I don't think they messed MTG up. Actually, they have added more strategy to it. There are tons more viable deck types nowadays than there were at the first few worlds. The game has evolved, not gotten worse.

I actually have to agree with you on that. With every new mechanic comes at least a dozen highly tournament-worthy cards, and at least two of them are sure to be commons. I LIKE what they've done with M:tG. Now if only I could get enough gamers interested in the Planescape setting that they saw enough demand to merit bringing it back...

If you call summoning a 20/20 monster strategy, yes it has. But one hit KO cards make Lycanthrope sick. But then again, I'm just an old krodger who remembers the days when the most powerful cards were 6/6...

To be fair, one-hit wonders do require a lot of planning and execution to pull. And I also remember the days when... no, wait, the strongest fixed beastie was 11/11 when I showed up. (Polar Kraken, from Ice Age.) I just find that the methods for screwing your oppo are more interesting now than they were in the old days.

20/20s... a quick creature-kill and it's ixnay on the ulkhay.

Well, I especially hate how they just kind of rule out older cards. All interrupts are now useless. Its a ruthless money-scam. I stopped playing when I realized that.

Alan Carver

What do you mean all interrupts are useless? From what I know, they just count as the same thing as instants. And most likely no one is going to use a 20/20 because it would be too hard to get out, unless the deck is based around it, which would be a bad idea cause you shouldn't rely on a creature that can just die for a win condition, although their are exceptions.
