Iuchiban is too overpowered. There an insane number of minor Shadowlands badasses that could kick our assess. No need to going stampeding to the Big I. That's like going up against Cthulhu in a call rp.

I just noticed that in that last duel the guy dodged the iajitsu draw, and countered... but it didn't seem like he countered with another draw... I was wondering if it was possible to forgo a draw against a superior opponent, and go full defense to help dodge when he strikes, or something?

He's a scorpion, technically that's dirty pool. What he did was technically cheating. That's why the Lion got so pissed.

And if I DID want to cheat, I'd probably have spat mouth darts tipped with poison at krylo... or poisoned his food and water... or poured Super Rusto Fine all over his sword...

But I'm quite content to stick with the hankyu.

Besides, I'm ronin. I can use low skills without losing honor... I think that puts me at even with scorpion as far as ability to cheat. Of course, Taken wouldn't cheat in a structured environment... but if it's cheat or die, he probably wouldn't mind cheating too much. He likes breathing. A lot.

hurting the gm's character for no reason is a good way to find an oni no akuma in your bed when you get home

Edit: Almost forgot: do the fights end after one participant's boken touches their opponent, or do people just tend to give up at first hit? I ask because the lion got hit more than once... but that may have just been because he was pissed and didn't want to step down.

I should mention the Oni no Akuma is stronger than ogre, invulnerable, has three tongues the size of pythons and salivates acid. He will make you his bitch, and you won't like it.

I don't know... I can think of plenty of interesting things those tongues could be used for. Just gotta stick some bleach and/or ammonia in his mouth before hand to counter out the acid...

Well the fact that it likes to kill humans slowly and painfully then devour their remains. The Overlord Oni No Akuma had to be killed by a magical atomic weapon.

You'd really have to be into the rough stuff to enjoy the punishment he can dish out. If you boys think your up to it I can introduce one into the rp.

Ok did you notice how L5R is kind of absent of black mages. The magic users we have are more like white mages, or at worst red mages. Well they do have Black mages. They are called Maho-Tsukai. They're really a cross between a black mage and a necromancer.

Blood magicians, basically. And they are shugenja of the element of Corruption, according to the 2E Way of the Penix book.

And if you combine maho with elemental magic you get insanely powerful magic.

Instead of figuring school rank + ring you use Taint + ring.

If you want a powerful character quickly shadowlands are the way to go, but it makes you susceptible to a lot of combat magic, tempremental, and if you get tainted to much you lose your character.

Also, there's a lot of nasty physical side effects and everybody will kill you on sight if they find out, IIRC...

The physical deformity depends greatly on how much you resist. if you embrace the taint you can get away with no problems till your taint surpasses double your highest ring. That's when you become an Akutsukai.

That's one of those winged demon guys, right? Saw those in monsters of Rokugan...

Those are Ashura. Those guys are freaking insane. Luckily they don't exist until the time of the four winds.

Akutsukai are Fu Leng's captains. Eventually they graduate up to Akutenshi and then they become nigh unstoppable. The Akutenshi are Fu Leng's generals. They're like the Nazgul only alot stronger.

yep. Daigotsu isn't a Kami though he's a Hantei. Of course so is Iuchiban.

Daigotsu is also half human half oni. A blood speaker ritual combined his soul with that of an oni.

If I do a shadowlands campaign it will be one part full metal jacket one part creature feature

Also, JAD, you are lucky as hell (or I'm unlucky as hell... either or). I ran that through Random.org over twenty times and I didn't get a roll below 30 once... Got a few with double ones, but they were cancelled out by ten+es... got a few that were REALLY close, like 31...

I knew it was pretty lucky/unlucky right off, because I got six rolls, and the average roll would be about ten... but yah.

Edit: Now I just got two out of three rolls. But it took me awhile to start getting that low.

Nah. I wouldn't say that. It's entirely possible that I could get shitty rolls. Take me + gambling, for instance. Whenever there's something riding on it, I'll lose a game. When it's just for fun I'll win... over and over and over and over.

Also: Before I post... which will be in about a half hour (assuming someone replies) what skill is it to throw something... and are there any rocks about?

I'm assuming, if Raiden has to spend a round closing the distance, I would too... so throwing a rock whilst running would probably work a bit better. If I could bean him in the head and futz up his spell, that is.

Question: If I were to change it to a head shot, could he 'pull his punch' and just knock the thing unconcious, instead of killing it? I mean... a tainted human is STILL a human, and remember, he wasn't happy about killing rabbits. However... if knocking it out isn't viable, Taken would kill, just to save the lives of more innocent people.

well I changed my post to reflect your bad choice in trying to knock him down. Future refrence Tainted things should be killed if possible. other wise they will kill you, probably in a couple of seconds. the average life expectancy of a fully armored bushi on the Kaui wall is 2 seconds against an oni overlord or Akutenshi.

The disadvantage soft hearted applies to human life, there are schools of thought in which if you become to tainted to the point you grow new appendages you've ceased to be human. I'll accept his choice, but it's a waste of double 10s on a damage roll. You have no idea how lucky you were to get that much.

He said he doesn't need to do rolls for this. The guy can't move because his legs are powder, so T.N. to hit would be 0 or 5, very easy to roll... to the point of it being pointless to do so (assuming spells even need to make T.N.s to hit), and a small pebble could hit him at this point and kill him, so far as game mechanics go. My blow did enough to kill him... I just didn't hit a vital area.

Punch them in the face, kick them in the groin, garrotte them, kick them in the back, etc. You get the idea.

Don't worry about it. Earthquake is a nonlethal spell in this situation.
