The article was mostly about informing the public about what furries are, not about the dudes who planned to kill one of their adoptive parents. I'm just saying you could have chosen your article better if you wanted to discuss that.

And here's why. I'm way more interested in Kathy Gerbasi, the anthrozoologist that studies furries. It's something that needs to be properly studied, and she's out there, studying it. She's awesome.

but..I don't want to understand it! The less I know overall the better I feel, even if there is more innocence then deviance

That I agree with. Truthfully I didn't read the article all the way at first.

If anyone is curious about the news story about the two guys who met on a furry website and conspired to murder one guy's adoptive parents, an article about it is here (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?Son_plotted_to_kill_parents_with_Inte rnet_friend&in_article_id=705869&in_page_id=34).

Some of the comments make me laugh. Especially anything with the word 'innocence'. This is a sexual subculture with a heavy fetish in mind, and I've yet to meet a furry that doesn't yiff/rp sex/etc. It's just kind of... part of being a furry. :P

Related, I have yet to find a furry community that isn't drama-laden to the point of ridiculousness.

You'd be surprised. Very surprised at the number of Furry against Yiff/rp sex. The Furry fan base is based on a group of people who like to watch cartoons/animes staring most anthro characters. In fact just about anyone who's a fan of Star Fox, Pokemon, Sonic, Mario, Klonoa, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Ratchet and Clank, ect in anyway is a Furry. Yes that makes about roughly 50+% of the Nintendo fanbase furries I shit you not.

The thing about the Furry Fandom is that it has many different Branches from fans of the games listed above to the yiffers to the suiters scene above in the article. I been active on a site lettered with nothing but furries for over a year now. You can trust me on my knowledge of the furry.

Also their Furry based comics are pretty much the same as regular comics and mangas except most of the characters are anthro.

I really hope that this study will make this more obvious.

Since nobody is, I won't be.

That's a very wrong statement. I'm a fan of pokemon, therefore I am a furry. [I am but that's a stupid statement to make.] Just because someone enjoys a specific fanbase doesn't make you a furry. Furdom is based on the specific Fetish division. It's considered an act of self gratification to even don a fursuit, as an example.

Minor Edit: actually i just realized that everyone in my household and friend group that enjoys these games are furries, so I don't have much evidence against that arguement.

I have been active on the same site. And on many, many other sites. Yiffing is commonplace. My knowledge of the fur may surpass even yours.

Except for the most part, no, that's wrong. Most furry comics are about realizing a fantasy in the same way Twilight does for it's author- becoming it's fursona ideal, which is self-gratification. [Obvious exception being Ozy and Millie, but it's followup comics, such as Rain Dog, contain some significantly more obvious situations that could be pointed at.]

This study doesn't make much obvious at all to me. It's a researcher who talked to people, who may have sat in a few chatrooms to observe. Good on her, it's nice to see people taking a notice of things, in the same way they realized "hey, BDSM is a fetish that, while I don't enjoy it, other people do."

Edit: After a fervent discussion with Silver and Dan Skunk I will consent that there is a subculture within the furry culture that is nonsexual- however they are at best considered deviants from their own culture at that point.

Things get complicated depending on how you define things. From what I understand, being furry generally involves either having an attraction to/unusual enthusiasm for furry characters outside of normal reasoning (meaning cases of "everyone is furry for Krystal" generally don't count), or more likely, having a strong association with a particular animal to the point it becomes part of how you define yourself (although if it goes too far, it steps into "otherkin" or something).

Then you have weird stuff like what I've seen furries refer to as being a "furfag" as an explanatory, rather than derogatory, term where a guy is straight in normal life, likes girls, isn't into furry stuff in general, yet has a strange attraction to male furries that's completely unexplainable to even himself. I happened to stumble in on a conversation about that while randomly browsing another forum and the guy was understandably confused. I suppose the converse also probably happens with women.

I really don't see why there needs to be an entire news article about this. I certainly couldn't read past the first few sentences, but then I also have a grasp of what a furry is, which I'll admit I'm having trouble explaining. I should say if presented with one, I could say, "yep, that's a furry," but I'm sucking with words right now because my brain is not letting go of Ruby (my newest game idea) for the moment. (I'm literally losing sleep over this thing, which has never happened before, not even with PoC, and I didn't even intend to DO anything with the title until later.)

You know, this puts me in an interesting position to voice my opinion on the stupid fandom (Which to some extent I am part of, as well as my girl and my best friend). This is mostly reworded from ED. Don't go there it's terrible.

**************

The majority of the internet hates them because they won't stay in FChan and Fur Affinity and continue to annoy the rest of the internet with their persecution complex. Furries are incapable of understanding how stupid the concept of their fandom is and as such only take offense to the claims of it being a sexual fetish, as if without the sexual aspect being obsessed with cartoon animals would be perfectly fine.

Furries believe that the reason why they liked Star Fox/Rescue Rangers/Sonic the Hedgehog as a child was because they were born furry. This is retarded.

Normal people keep their fetishes and developmental oddities to themselves, they don't try to make their fetishes into anything else, furries believe their fetish is a lifestyle and must announce it to everybody on the internet though their icon or sig.

************

This is not only true but it's also damned irritating. You won't notice that I, or MariusTwilight, have anything significantly 'fur' about ourselves, and yet we don't really deny what we're into. We just don't rub it in other people's faces. The persecution complex is one of the most irritating things I've had to watch and deal with, as a forum member or as a moderator. Furries even act 'fursecuted' amongst themselves if one of them calls the other stupid.

TL;DR 99% of furries wouldn't be annoying and mocked by everyone if they'd just shut the hell up and practice their fetishes amongst their own kind.

That reminds me of a flash I found called "about furry." I won't find and post it because there was frankly a lot of porn in there, but its description of the furry community amounted to something along the lines of "imagine daytime TV with twice the drama, even worse acting, and no off switch 24/7." From what I've seen, it's at least partly legitimately true. I've heard of several artists just clamming up and pulling all their work because they couldn't deal with the idiocy and art theft anymore, especially of their pay works. Which isn't to say the artists aren't part of the drama, since they're selling basically the same stuff they post for free, but I feel a hell of a lot more sympathetic to them than the assholes who buy one copy and then distribute it for free everywhere they can think of or go around asking people to get and post it all.

Art takes work, after all, or at least it should if you're charging for it. It's a real dick move to just go and pass it around, especially when it says specifically not to distribute it.

Depends on the level of fur. Most of the time Cat girls do not count.

And delusional, people aren't born furry because they are not furries, they just pretend to be them.

See I have a conundrum: Katt is precisely 50% furry and 50% catgirl, so I'm not sure which end wins out.

Most fans of BoF just treat her as a regular catgirl instead despite being half furry.

I'm kind of surprised this thread's still going.
