Here in Ohio there is an amendment on the ballet to legalize gambling. Needless to say its abit of a hot button topic, but they just wont shut-up about it. You cant even watch TV without getting the commercials, and we get a daily call from one side or another. Not to mention all the junk mail, signs, and I dont even live in one of the big cities.

This is political campaigning on a scale that would normally count as harassment. Its what you normally get from presidential elections but on a topic that ultimately wont influence the state that much

I would like it if more people were politically active, but I guess that brings out the crazies too.

Pardon my ignorance, but I wasn't even aware that gambling was illegal in some states. Go-go west coast? :S

Also, won't affect the state that much? The lottery here in Washington state funds part of the education system. Approximately 20% of the proceeds go into Education Construction. I don't know about you but I see that as a good thing. Especially when you consider that just last year that amount in USD was $102 million.

Well, the state lottery I think is a bit different. Most states have gambling laws, as in going to a casino and playing cards or rolling dice or playing the slots. Wisconsin has casinos, but they're all on reservations, which count as independent states within our borders and aren't subject to the same laws.

That said, the casinos make a LOT of money and put it back into the tribal communities. If you meet the blood purity requirement to qualify for a tribe, you can get frankly an embarrassing amount in scholarships. We're talking I had one friend who could have gotten a full ride for any school in the country, although I'm not sure of his grades or what tribe he belonged to.

that is correct, we already have a lottery. More importantly we are basically surrounded by states with legalized gambling. But what I meant about wont affect us much, atleast not in the near future, is that only a few cities will get anything. Ohio has no state gaming commision meaning its impossible to get a licence to run casinos. Only a few boarder cities where they can get out of state people will see any changes.

I am not saying my personal stance, just that people wont stop pestering us about it. Both sides are doing this. I dont know who they think they will influence, fairly certain anyone that cares has already picked a side

Well, political ads during election season are pretty common, and in this case both sides of the issue have a ton of money to throw into getting commercial time on all the local stations, be it the gambling industry on one side or the churches on the other.

As for phone calls, I haven't received a single one. Of course, that might be a result of using an unlisted digital line more than anything. Still, I'm sure there are measures you can take to make them stop calling you. Talk to your phone company and find out.
