So, season one just finished, and despite my expectations to the contrary, the series did not finish up in one season. I am a little frustrated that the current fight has been lasting so long, but episode twelve was so worth it for a number of reasons. It also looks like they spent most of that season's animation budget on episode thirteen, so it doesn't look too shabby. It was funny and awesome and Saten is a goddamn badass creepy motherfucker.
I am also currently thinking that the new Uten is Cruz's sister from the first ep, mostly due to a frame showing her being timed with a related line.
One thing that I really like about this show is how it uses humor in a way that actually affects the plot. Like in episode thirteen when the silent Pretty Girl Squad member whose name I forget talks for that one move and they're so shocked that they breath it in. I must admit that was fairly clever and a great way of using that character's personality trait.
Episode twelve was just great for defying the standard formula by having Cruz actually be useful for like the second time in the whole series, and for half the party dying at the end of the episode.
"I'll pay them back ten times over." Gurren Lagann reference or common saying? I don't know or care!
A lot of fanservice, but that was always a part of the show, and half the time it seems the point of the fanservice is to be ridiculous.
