Oh SNAP! A new comic up. (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2009/08/25/warbot_010-washing-machine/) It's been, like, forEVER.

Not depressing enough!

Poor sad Warbot...is he even capable of killing himself? Not just jumping off a building but does he have any missles or anything capable of penetrating that armor of his?

Lost in Time

Does he have to pay for a new couch every meeting, or do they just not replace it?

It's kind of funny that the old man's the old one who calls attention to how Warbot's different. Is everyone else simply too PC to mention it?

This must be the best psychiatrist in the world.

Not depressing enough!

This.
I didn't feel like horrible human being after reading this! There's something wrong with this.

Also, Warbot can communicate to somebody, it's like the happiest day of his life. Stop making these darn happy comics. We want depression and.. and.. sadness! Yeah! That's what we want in our lives.

Yeah, once I heard "Nursing Home," I thought this would all be downhill. But it was just a dip in the road of life.

That last line got me.

Also, I think the old guy is right. Warbot's eye makes him look like a front-loading washing machine. Sort of.

EDIT: Unless that's a pun on Warbot's "cold" life or something.

The image of him trying to lay down on the couch is forever in my brain. With that image, I will never be sad.

How did Warbot convey that experience to the psychiatrist if he cannot speak?

It's like "How did he type just his name on that dating website?". Simply down to the Rule of Funny.

Or "How does he walk into a room through a doorway."

The universe exists to make Warbot miserable.

That means he can do whatever he wants provided that, in the end, he ends up sad. Plus it is funny.

This wasn't nearly as godawful as the rest of the comics (the robot daughter) but hey you need to lure us into a false sense of happiness first.

So, is it a bad thing that I actually saw this comic as a ray of sunshine? The previous Warbot comics have apparently been so depressing, that little things like, "No one died" seem like great big happy things! XD

The comic has a sort of soothing nature to it in that way. Makes things you'd normally find depressing seem rather cheerful.

This is exactly how I felt. I started reading the comic in a rather depressed mood, and I figured this would only make it worse. But when I reached the end, and nobody had been killed or mutilated, I actually felt cheered up.

Proof that Warbot does have happy endings!

Amusing: Warbot being called a name by a cranky old man.

Depressing: Warbot's resident begins to have a heart attack, after telling him what a nice, sweet young man he is. Warbot tries to press the emergency button in their room, but he accidentally smashes it. He's forced to watch his resident die, because he cannot signal for help.

Suicidally Depressing: Warbot's resident begins to pass away in the room with him there. The resident tells him that all she wants before she dies is for someone to tell her that they love her, that it's going to be okay. Warbot stares on, silently, while the resident desperately watches Warbot in his inability to speak, before they die unloved.

Anything you can do I can do better. :I

I love how a body count of zero is all that's necessary for this comic to be considered not depressing.

This comic is just a false sense of happiness, just watch.

So this is the part of Requiem for a Dream where they get the truck full of drugs to peddle for a tidy profit, giving them a false sense of security?

Does that mean ass to ass and electroshock therapy are coming soon? ^_^

3 Compare this (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2009/04/15/warbot_003-online-dating-service/) to that (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2009/08/25/warbot_010-washing-machine/)

Another great comic, somehow you convey to me that Warbot is in the fetal position when on the couch even though he's really only sideways.

The only thing that felt out of place was the last panel having dialogue, perhaps I've been conditioned by the other episodes to not want any. As always, can't wait for the next one.

Woohoo, he managed to communicate with another human being who's actually trying to help him! I predict nothing but happiness and cuty bunny rabbits in the future!

I've said it before, Warbot can function much like a normal person as long as he's not on panel.

So, is it just me who thought he'd be better suited as a user than a volunteer?

(Inside tip: People who use personal assistant are called "users" by the assistants. At least in Sweden.)

GrandMasterPlanetEater
08-27-2009, 03:15 PM
Really? Because here in the United States a "user" is anyone who continuously abuses you by using trickery or your own kindness to get things from you without giving anything back. Or someone who uses drugs.

Viridis
08-27-2009, 03:23 PM
Yeah. Here we'd probably call the personal assistant user a patient/customer/client.

Also, 'user' makes it sound like you're a piece of software being logged into.

Invisible Queen
08-27-2009, 03:54 PM
When it comes to abusing things like friendships or drugs or whatever, you'd think the word "abuser" would be useful. >_>

But yeah, it's the same word meaning different things depending on jargon. <_<

I feel so happy for warbot. His emotional pain has gone from failed sucide attempts to being called a refrigorator/washing machine and being rejected by the loneliest people alive (no, in this case I'm trying NOT to think of Warbot as a person, lest the true trauma tear me apart.)

Truth is, this is him being rejected the the second loneliest people alive. That's about as depressing as the rest of them. Its just hidden better, and we're evading looking at its deeper semiotics lest we stop laughing.

Serves him right. Warbot wouldn't laugh at any of their jokes! Not even a pity chuckle.

I'm sensing a string of ultra-happy episodes where things finally start to look up for the guy, then the most depressing event to date. Like RAM cancer or something. And the rest of the series has him going to weekly chemotherapy in between other, even more depressing events.

Regular fine or the kind of fine that makes you characters shout that they'll be "safe! Safe forever!"

Because we see what happens to that kind of fine.

It would explain his disappearance if he was checked into clinics for RAM cancer. Interesting stuff that happens off panel that you'll never see.

Chemotherapy for robots would involve controlled EM radiation, I think. Maybe it should be called atomic therapy. Cause it's basically surgical nuclear strikes into the computer memory. Maybe "controlled" is a bit optimistic. . .

Obviously something horrible is going to happen as regards Warbot - Psychiatrist.

Most likely he'll think they have a friendship going and she'll reject that, seeing him purely in a client relationship. If even that.
Which is strange, because she seems nice. Maybe he'll fail as client? She gets her license revoked?

Something awful :(.

C'mon, they recovered from that little killing. Excruciating pain fades with time.
