View Full Version : Awesome Moments In Awesome Sci-Fi (Syfy?) Flicks
So yeah, I just finished Blade Runner, and I thought "Wow, that was pretty nifty. Now to check out my other sci-fi flicks like... Alien... and Predator. I think that's it. I don't even have Spaceballs. However, use your awesome sci-fi movie moments to help me find a good flick:
Like the classic dinner scene in Alien. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JehjqlzXwIQ)
(Blade Runner Spoiler) Roy Batty's death in Blade Runner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUMb11k0K3E)
The swimming scene in Alien Resurrection (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS4hEw2apsA)
Ripley versus the Xenomorph Queen (http://www.clipser.com/watch_video/382993)
Ah-nuld takes on the Predator in Predator. (http://www.indavideo.hu/video/THE_END_-_1987_-_PREDATOR_1_-_DE_JOHN_MCTIERNAN_AVEC_ARNOLD_SCHWARZENEGGER_CARL _WEATHERS)
Anyone got anything good?

Ugh, no, don't watch Alien Resurrection. Ugh. I'd barely even say that you should watch Alien 3 except that it brings things to closure pretty good.
I mean, you can watch Alien Resurrection but it's sort of a complete waste of time since it is so horrible.
Kind of like the last two Matrix flicks, but they had their moments.

I liked Reloaded. Revolutions though, was just.... damn. I don't think their hearts were even in it at that point.
Hey, the final Squiddy fight was awesome. Everything in those suits was awesome.

I was a Matrix fanboy to end all Matrix fanboys, but even I couldn't keep a straight face during Revolutions. Loved first and Reloaded though. Been curious as to how they look on blu-ray.
PS: Predator was significantly improved by blu-ray. I'd say it looks 10 years younger. Which still puts it a ways away from present day, but hey, at least the format is working!
Serenity.
All of it. But especially the battle between the Reavers and the Alliance which I unfortunately can't find a clip of so oh well I guess you're gona have to just go watch the whole damn movie to see it! Because it's that damn awesome.

The car scene in Children of Men, (http://www.joblo.com/video/joblo/player.php?video=childrenofmen) primarily for the holy shit amazing cinematography. Also spoiler death.
Then there's the 8 minute long battle scene in a single take, which is also pretty nifty.

Yeah, I couldn't believe they did those takes in Children of Men in one shot (I think the 8-minute battle scene actually only had a three-to-four minute single take, and there was a break near the middle, but still--it was incredibly impressive). The ending to that movie was pretty stellar, too, I think there was an alternate ending where it just ends and you're not sure if the boat has shown up or not. I'd kind of like to see that possibility in a director's cut or something as an alternate ending.
Youtube doesn't seem to have any good Robocop videos but the ending scene where Robocop has to wait until the executive is fired by the company president to shoot him was always hilarious to me.
Anyway, an oldie but still a goodie: Luke vs. Vader in The Empire Strikes Back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frX00n3gngU) (REALLY OLD SPOILERS!**) I still love the part where Luke jumps into an apparently bottomless pit rather than join Vader. Of course, Lucas decided to go back and add him screaming to this part. Ugh.

"SyFy" is nothing but a terrible name motivated by terrible reasons.
ahaha man Spaceballs definitely is quality sci-fi.
Ghost in the Shell is terrific, as well, to add something that's not already been suggested.

I think my favorite science-fiction moment is when Biff Tannen drives his car into that truck full of shit.

Actually that entire scene in the second one was awesome.
Let's see my awesome moment would be...
All of Serenity
Anytime Mace Windu was on screen being badass
During the first Matrix Movie when Neo comes back. Cliche but still cool.

Primer.
After maybe the third viewing you'll understand some odd things. It's great sci-fi its rooted in a great story with no need for special effects.

Chronicles of Riddick, the escape from Crematoria is the only part worth watching in that movie. Pitch Black was much better but still kinda meh in terms of amazingly epic stuff happening.
The new Star Trek movie, the jump scene. I was blown away by the audio for that part, mainly because it was the first time that someone decided to make a space scene like real space, i.e the only things you can hear are what's happening in your suit.
Starship Troopers. Generic bug-blasting sci-fi at its finest.
And finally Serenity. I just got done watching it for the first time and holy crap it was amazing.
Those are the ones I can think of right now. There are probably more that I've seen but I can't remember them.

HAHAHAHAH. OH man. No. It's great that they did it and all but Star Trek is waaaay late on the no sound in space wagon.

2001 did it first!
(Disclaimer: 2001 probably did not do it first)

Akira did it first!
Yeah it doesn't matter much who did it first, it still can catch you off guard once in a while.

Your MOM did it first.
If I had to go for an awesome sci-fi moment, I will toss a cookie to Gunbuster when the main characters get back after several hundred years and the whole Earth lights up with "Welcome Home". I think it's awesome, at least.

thats more of a tearjerker than an awesome moment, really. as far as awesome moments in gunbuster goes, the most iconic would be in ep 4 when the gunbuster itself debuts.

The Second Act of 2001. The rest was just complete and utter garbage.
You owe it to yourself to go see District 9.

I'll second that. Everything in District 9 was amazing.

Is that the psychedelic part? Because honestly if I hadn't read the novel I wouldn't know what the hell was going on. Also there were extremely long lengths of time with just colors, which made me bored.
If you're talking about the regular space trip or whatever, though, I liked that part.
