...and you should buy it. They've had crappy DVD ports out of individual arcs before, but just a few days ago, the Complete First Season was released in a single two-DVD set. You really should consider purchasing it. Particularly since the DVD itself costs only $20 and (more importantly) sales of the DVD will be used to determine whether a third season will be green-lighted.

Now I have to sell the purchase to you, so here goes:

I am not much of a Spider-Man fan. I enjoyed the first two Tobey Maguire movies (not so much the third) as a casual viewer, but much of the Spider-Man 'mythology' is beyond my meager knowledge. I don't own a single Spider-Man comic and I couldn't name any Spidey villains that didn't appear in the movies. Hell, before watching this series I had no idea who Gwen Stacy was (in my defense, she wasn't remotely memorable in Spider-Man 3.)

So when Spectacular Spider-Man was recommended to me, I was a bit hesitant. I'm neither a diehard Spider-Man fanatic nor a child, so I really didn't seem to fit the target audience. But Spectacular Spider-Man really reminds me of the great cartoons of the late '80s and early '90s, back when shows like Duck Tales had us hooked to our televisions. It follows a coherent plot, keeps enough veiled adult-oriented jokes to entertain older audiences, actually keeps track of character arcs and develops characters three-dimensionally (as opposed to the classic animation staple of 'resetting' the series after every damn episode to maintain continuity) and is just fun to watch. The battle sequences are expertly coordinated, the dialogue is fresh and realistic, there's a great voice acting cast involved, and even the love triangle cliche is executed respectably.

Spectacular Spider-Man is about three thousand times better than the live-action movies, and given their respective budgets, that's saying something. It's one of the few animated TV shows that merits more seasons, but it airs on Disney X-D or some bullshit channel so not many people have heard of it. Yes, you could probably watch episodes for free online somewhere, but without your financial support, this great show's going to die on the vine. So, if you have twenty dollars to spend and you want to support quality television, this is one purchase you shouldn't shy away from.

I will purchase these ASAP. Show was great. I loved how one episode was almost nothing but twenty minutes of Spidey and Venom beating the ever-loving shit out of each other. I also enjoy how Spidey is pretty much responsible for every single villain in the show, with maybe one or two exceptions.

Is there a link or somesuch verifying this? I'd like to have that handy for hectoring other people over why they gotta buy this.

You know it's almost like they took Ultimate Spider Man's tone of high school life and tossed out all the bad parts of Bendis and then mixed it with classic Spidey banter and then boom it is the best thing ever.

Yeah it turns out if you take Bendis's Spider-Man and throw out everything remotely related to Bendis and replace that with Greg Weisman you end up with a pretty great Spider-Man.

It's not very definite, I may have to hard-sell people a little.

(By which I mean, punch them until they go buy it.)

Yeah the IGN article really doesn't go into as much detail as I'd have hoped, but during the actual Comic-Con panel Weisman and Cook told everyone point-blank that Disney X-D's decision to renew for Season Three would almost entirely depend on two factors, the Season Two ratings on TV and Season One's DVD sales. Insofar as I cannot watch Disney X-D from home (my cable provider does not include that station), I have to settle for purchasing the DVD, badgering everyone else into purchasing the DVD, and hoping for the best.

Some YouTube action of the Comic-Con panel. Yes I was there, but I doubt you'll see me as I was towards the mid-back & didn't have a question to ask.

I watched Spectacular Spider Man season 1 and 2 via the interwebs and downloading them. Disney XD aired SSM when I returned from college, and despite already seeing it, I watched them while I could until I headed down to Texas.

It truly is a wonderful show. If they don't renew it for a third season, I will be sad. They ended the second season with a perfect setup for the third.

This is, hands down, the definitive TV version of Spider-Man. I was a little iffy about watching it at first but I can honestly call it time well wasted. I think I might have to buy it.

Both of these are excellent reasons why you should purchase a legal licenced official copy of the Series 1 DVD.

I tried watching it, and I did not care for it.

Might be the art style, which I have some problems with. Problems which I think can be summed up by the fact that during his transformation, The Lizard's (is that even a spoiler?) partial scaliness was represented by little groups of three U shapes, evenly spaced. I mean that's the kind of esthetic convention that I used when I used to draw... when I was like twelve. That sort of thing is sort of a block for me.

Seriously, though, you're missing out on a great show simply because of some art quirks. I actually kinda dig the simplistic art style that they've got going for it. Works fairly well.

It's animation. Art counts. It's not like it's got Rocky and Bullwinkle writing or anything.

I've seen too many people recommend it, so I can't read it.

There's nothing I can do. Them's the rules.

Luckily we've already established that you are a crazy person who hates awesome things.

One ep is just Spidey and Venom beating each other senseless, what more do you want?

Are they drawn as stick figures? If they are, I'm sure it really couldn't affect enjoyement of a mainly visual exercise!

Fifth, you have to know that there are those people who will force you to lower your standards to the point of feeling like a whore. They do to people what Transformers 2 did to film.

Archie, I've come to the conclusion that you're full of shit. Hence, I no longer care what you think. Go buy it and burn it* just so the rest of the world can be happy.
ON a more intelligent note, It's a primarily visual experience, but it's also a literary and audio experience, and both of those things are insanely well done.
