What's this about now? We're getting Warcraft....the movie? Dammit Blizzard you still owe me a functional Starcraft II!

Linky-thing. (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10292811-1.html)

Right, so.....thoughts? Sam Raimi's directing.

There is so much lore, so much story in the Warcraft universe that I am surprised that it hasn't happenned sooner. As a Warcraft Lore nerd (seriously ask Major Blood) I approve this project.

Eh.

I can't really see the art style of Warcraft transferring to live action movie smoothly without some godawful props.

Does that mean there'll never be a Warhammer movie?

Good! Now where's my Warhammer 40K movie?

That's obvious, Space Marines! Or are you some xeno-loving heretic?

SUBSTANCE!

As far as the movie goes, Sam Raimi has done some good movies, some great movies, and some bad movies. I'm going to pass on this for now until the trailer.

Now if you exuse me,

That's obvious, Space Marines! Or are you some xeno-loving heretic?

A Necron starred movie would be much more powerful, and characters would come back from the dead. Do Space Marines come back from the dead.

BRB goin' to check.

Okay I'm back. No Space Marines do not come back from the dead.

Case Closed.

Go watch the imperial guard shoot tyranid bugs/zerg in Starship Troopers like the rest of us did.

Anyway, Raimi made the outlandish designs like Doc Octopus work in Spiderman. Hopefully this will transfer over okay to Warcraft. I mean if regular people can do some damn decent WoW cosplays I'm sure a guy with a multi-million dollar budget can make everything at least look good. It's the dialog and the story itself I'm worried about. What I don't want is to go into it like I did for that D&D movie years back and come out just as disappointed.

Pfft, Imperial guards are weak! Only the Space Marines, sons of the God Emperor and Primarchs, can protect the Imperium of Man!

On with Warcraft Movie, I would question what part of the lore they will pull from and where. Will they use events already done or new events yet to be!

Well they already seem to have fans frothing at the mouth to see Arthas but according to the little blurb under the picture he most likely wont be in....."the first one" meaning that they plan on making more of them. If they go for a whole four picture deal, they can get Warcraft, Warcraft II, Warcraft III, and finish with the story from the Frozen Throne expansion.

EDIT: And maybe sometime after that we'll see Starcraft II released for the PC.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Well of Eternity stuff make it into a movie.

I really want them to delve into PAST lore. Like forget making the games into movies, there's hundreds of years of lore from before Warcraft they can use.

Ah Starcraft II, we barely knew ye.

krogothwolf

Well, that'd be cool I suppose. But it may be the WoLK slaying of arthas then the frozen throne movie instead.

Starcraft 2 will probably be made into a movie before the game is released!

Like forget making the games into movies, there's hundreds of years of lore from before Warcraft they can use.Yeah but it's hundreds of years of lore that happens to be out of touch with most of the viewing public. I mean, I consider myself an okay Warcraft fan but when it comes to the story I only vaguely remember what happened story-wise back in the first one.

Don't forget the target audience will most likely be the WoW generation and people who remember Warcraft II and forward.

This makes sense to me but honestly i wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to draw people into the games as well. Have them watch the movies, and then go "hey, that's cool, maybe i'll go play WoW now".

They'll go your way of course but I wish I got to see Illidan's roots and stuff on-screen. :(

And it's not like Warcraft 1 was particularly good compared to the others.

Mirai Gen

Honestly a Warhammer Fantasy/40k movie could work but it'd be much better as some kind of series; there's too much to go over with GW's incredibly expansive universes to hope to fit it all into an hour and a half to three hours.

Warcraft and Starcraft are much much more shrunk down, partly due to their focus on the few core races of each but also due to it's much smaller lifespan. I could see a movie working for them at least.

And it's not like Warcraft 1 was particularly good compared to the others.I wouldn't be too shocked if they just summed up Warcraft in like a 5 minute re-cap scene like the start of Lord of the Rings and then pick up form there with the movie covering the highlights of Warcraft II, the next movie hitting most of WC III, and the third doing the Arthas/Illidan ---> Lich King race. If they have a fourth movie it may be very WoW centered.

While it would be interesting to watch, it wouldn't work out for your average movie goer because of how steeped it is in the lore. If they were to do a movie on Rise of the Horde or Tides of Darkness/Beyond the Dark Portal, that would work out better because the world of Warcraft is still growing.

krogothwolf

Tides would be cool. They might also do an about face and make the movie actually based on Warcraft Adventures.

They could do that in Lord of the Clans, the sequel/prequel to Rise of the Horde.

It's just fun to tack on a complaint about Starcraft II every time Blizzard announces they are doing something else. My pre-order for the game is only like a year over-due at this point.

Sam Raimi's directing. Sold!

Movies seem to be what Blizz want to do anyway. Eliminate gameplay altogether and you've extended your target demographic to include people who're too lazy to click buttons. I predict a shining future where we'll pay monthly for a series of CGI movies; just turn off the chat and it'll be great.

I think WoW will work better as a movie anyway.

If it's the first movie, my guess is it will be set during Warcraft 1, and at least partially based on The Last Guardian, with Khadgar as main character, starting with Khadgar becoming Medivh's apprentice, and ending with the exodus from Stormwind. Important events could be the opening of the Portal, the first failed attack of 2 Horde clans on Stormwind, Medivh's death, Blackhand's death, Stormwind's fall.

I can't find where I read it, but it has been said that the movie is set about a year before WoW. Most people that play WoW (not all) probably wouldn't care to see the movie if it was further away than that.

The WH40k movie should be a nature documentary, like Jane Goodall and chimps except with a Farseer and Orks.

The Warcraft movie had better not be about king Jerkface Wrynn.

I think WoW will work better as a movie anyway.

It was an age of darkness... *camera pans over Ironforge*
An age of war... *fighting around Orgrimmar*
An age...of glory! *Throngs of Alliance and Horde crashing together in battle*

In Summer 2010, the battle will be coming to theatres near you!

Human Paladin: "Men! The orcs march on our doorstep! The trolls, the tauren, even the undead have risen against us! Today, we will defend our homeland! Today, we will drive back the forces of evil once and for all!

"But first, we must find 60 rabbit skins."

"But first, we must find 60 rabbit skins."[/I]

That's ridiculous.

Rabbits are harmless, and therefore obviously no part of their body could possibly be useful for anything.

Yeah, they totally need to level up fighting Boars first before they can search for the Sword of a Thousand Truths!

If we're going by the books here, forget Day of the Dragon. It'll probably end up concerning the Sunwell trilogy.

I totally see them focusing on the Alliance side because "audiences will relate better to humans." If so I'll probably skip it. I'm a little concerned about special effects though. I have a hard time seeing how the horde races can look realistic and heroic at the same time. Same for gnomes also really. I think the whole Warcraft graphics scheme works because it is cartoony. Honestly it is really too early to tell. There is a lot of potential for either awesomeness or suck.

Animation is grossly undervalued in movie making. The Spider-Man movies were good to okay but the cartoons were awesome.

It'd be pretty cool to be done in all CGI like the trailers, but no matter the style a series format is really the way to go.

What I would love to see is Rise of the Horde adapted as a movie because it shows the Orc's before the corruption.

CGI might really be the way to go because, well, Blizzard's cut- scenes and cinematics usually look pretty spiffy.

(This does not include the Forsaken and Blood Elves)
