Yeah... Next episode better be the last though. Kyon noticed less stuff this time around, but seem to come much closer to figuring it out at the end.
Frustrating part was that they skipped the kimono part and seemed to make other things go by slightly quicker, so I let myself get my hopes up.

I have the DVD's, and if you count the upcoming Endless Eight, we are at two discs.
Well, kinda. First two DVD's have four episodes each, and the last two have three episodes each.

I can't help but find that funny.
Although, _mike also postulated that this might be a "keep circulating the tapes" thing. That would be sort of fitting: a challenge for the second season to keep the show as it was when broadcast that's more challenging than the first season's mixed-up air schedule.

Episode 3 was Endless Eight, only with a different animation director and they figure out time's looping about halfway through. Great episode.
Episode 4 was Endless Eight, only with a different animation director and they figure out time's looping about halfway through. Okay episode except the fact that nothing new happens ruins it.

Is it splitscreen, or are all the episodes playing on top of each other with transparency? The second is what we've been imagining.

Yutaka Yamamoto, the director of the last season who pretty much has nothing to do with this one is sorry about Endless Eight.
“I knew from a year ago.”
“When I was with Kyoto Animation, this idea was already floating around, I was against to it. I thought 2 episodes was the limit.”
“I feel responsible for this. I’ll say it, I’m prepared to. As a representative of the SOS-Dan production committee, I want to apologise here – this was inexcusable.”
Well at least somebody is sorry for it, even if it isn't really his fault.

What I really hated about this episode in particular is that it didn't even try to do anything interesting animation-wise. Last episode at least had that really creepy turning-around with the clock, and the one previous to it dramatised the frustration a lot with all the plane imagery. There was no motif to look for this time around. :/

Now that I've actually watched it...
That was probably the best directed Endless Eight so far. They really played on the whole "time looping" thing many times, and the "old-VCR" effect from the climax was extremely good. Too bad it's been preceded by a string of bad-quality-and-too-reliant-on-stills episodes.
If this were just the third iteration of the arc I think I'd love it.
EDIT: I just realised it's called Endless Eight because of the month of August. Which means it would be fitting that it ends during the last week of August!

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-08-05/haruhi-endless-eight-arc-confirmed-to-end
An early copy of the September issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine has confirmed that the current Endless Eight arc of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya television anime series will end this week. The Newtype issue will officially ship on Monday. The Endless Eight arc recounts a short time-loop plotline from Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's original science-fiction comedy light novels. In the anime version, the same story was used for several episodes in the row, with minor changes from week to week. The anime has been in this story arc since June 19.
And, lo and behold, it actually ended today.
Watch how next week's episode is a recapitulation of all of Endless Eight.

So some bogus director or whoever is responsible for this screwed up a season (at least a good portion of it) of an anime of a series that has (or so I've heard) become quite a phenomenon.
but I'm pretty much an optimist most of the time (mostly due to the "phenomenon" part, in this case), so I honestly don't think that this will stop them from making a third season, I can't know for sure, though, of course.

The scene with the novel spoilers from my last sober post was really, really great. It was all I could hope for and captured the importance of Haruhi pushing past Kyon's limit. Tsuruya kinda came out looking as horrible as Haruhi, but whatcha gonna do? She screwed up/underestimated god.
