Anyone else ever seen this series? I'm up to episode 6 now, and I'm liking it quite a bit. It feels like Tomino was able to follow his own vision a bit more than with Gundam.
I'm kind of picking up on some subtle differences between Ideon and typical super robot anime. Like when Ideon is activated, there isn't the adrenaline pumping atmosphere you usually get with that stuff. It feels more ominous, like "is this a miracle, or are we opening Pandora's Box" kind of. There's something about Ideon that makes me think of Godzilla; monstrous and not really on your side, but sometimes pointed at your problems by sheer coincidence. Given what I've read about the series, this seems kind of true and false.
So far the action isn't all that exciting, but I think that will pick up as the main cast gets better at using Ideon, and when they're facing bigger threats than little hoppy robots.
I really like how Ideon actually has a crew that all have different jobs to do. It's not like your typical combining robot where you've got everyone sitting in one central room and doing absolutely nothing except when dramatically appropriate. Ideon has weapons all over its body, and it needs multiple people to control them.
