It's going by the name Kung Fu Kid (http://www.optimum.net/News/AP/Article?articleId=582746) which does very little to bolster my enthusiasm. That, coupled with the karate kid being played by Will Smith's son and being co-produced by a Chinese state run film group...ugh. I just hope they don't go for the whole Gen-X inyoface street slant. I just can't help but picture another Dragonball, slow-mo and all. The only redeeming quality to me is Jaden's performance in Pursuit.

Wait....Jackie Chan will play the old teacher-guy role? Is he really that old now that he can pull that off? These kind of films beg for some short old Asian guy.

I have huge faith on anything that Will Smith approaches, but his son has only worked on movies where i thought he was the worst thing on screen! Also, Jackie Chan usually is very good when he has any reach in the stunt department (and it's not just submissive to the script) so this could be a good surprise... however, the idea itself sound a bit farfetch'ed for me right now.

Are we already back on the trend of Kiddies martial movies? What's next? Are we going to revive the Dog Movies industry??

This cannot succeed.

There is no Mako.

So... what, is it a tribute to Pat Morita or something? Because I think we can do better.

I don't really understand the point of this remake. The karate kid was a pretty straightforward movie: kid gets bullied, kid learns kung fu, kid beats up bullies. There's not a whole lot that the first movie didn't explore.

I thought it was: kid gets bullied, meets Japanese guy, Japanese guy teaches him Karate through washing cars, kid beats up bullies, kid gets life lessons.

Does anybody care!

Batman cares, and you wouldn't want to piss off batman would you?

Batman loves karate kid, helps him recruit his robins.

This has no chance of not sucking because the entire point of Mr. Miyagi is for him to look like some harmless old fuck who can't do shit and then he goes karate on your ass and you're like wait, what? whereas Jackie Chan is internationally recognized for being able to fuck your shit up hardcore.

Also because they have basically remade this movie like a dozen fucking times and all of them have sucked.

Seriously ask yourself how many times whichever shitty movie has been like:

Kid who was trouble maker at old school moves to new town to get fresh start, gets picked on by kids who ___________, convinces local ___________ master to teach him _______________ so he can beat the local king of ____________ thereby proving he is A Hero.

Go watch Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift and try to honestly tell me that you are not watching the Karate fucking Kid with rice rockets.

Kung-Fu Kid will be the latest in a long and ignominious line of Karate Kid remakes, fuck they even just did Never Back Down which was basically the Mixed Martial Arts Kid.

I would like to point out that in The Kingdom (at least I think it was the Kingdom) Jackie Chan does appear as an old man at the beginning and you cannot tell that it's him at first glance.

Fifthfiend, you could make a multi-million dollar movie right there with that plot. It also doesn't even have to be a individual, it could be a team event instead.

This. The best thing was that Mr Miyagi was a war hero in world war 2. I like to imagine him storming into Germany and blocking bullets with "wax on, wax off".

I never liked the first Karate Kid, I thought it was lame. I mean, even when I was like five years old I thought it was pretty lame because I had already been watching karate movies with adults beating the crap out of each other, not to mention your average Schwarzenneger necksnap vehicle. Two young teenage boys playing footsie with each other didn't strike me as "exciting climax". In retrospect, I thought the Karate Kid Part 2 was actually pretty okay, probably due to the guy like actually trying to kill the Karate Kid, they should probably just remake that one.

The stupid "power of friendship" '80s movie they should actually remake is The Wizard but this time the autistic kid gets to compete in a Team Fortress 2 tournament and we get a special sneak-preview of Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

What's next? Are we going to revive the Dog Movies industry??You cannot revive what has been going strong for well over a decade.

Anyways, the pedantic in me is very happy Will Smith didn't get his way and that the movie will be called Kung Fu Kid after all.

I believe the movie you were looking for was The Forbidden Kingdom.

Terrible movie, except for the part where Jackie Chan and Jet Li fight. That made up for the badness.

Oh man, that was my favorite movie when I was a kid! They turned the Power Glove into a plot device! You can't beat that.

No, that pretty much WAS the movie right there. if every movie was Jackie Chan v Jet Li, I would watch it no matter how bad it was.

And yea, Jackie Chan did make a really good job being an old guy in that movie, no doubt.
