View Full Version : Warbot seems to be a failure as a war machine

First let me say, I love the comic. It tickles me pink. But I have a problem with it. Warbot appears to be a failure as a Warbot. I understand we have not seen him fight, and will most likely never see it, but based on the evidence portrayed thus far he is a failure at his name.
As a Warbot, Warbot doesn't seem to be very capable of battle. His gun arm is a chain gun which is great for anti-personnel. However, due to his size, speed, and general movement ability based on his joints, it would be useless for anything other than a straight shot that can pivot up or down. Also, why the claw arm at all if he is designed for war. Why not a missile launcher?
Based on his body design he would be slow and cumbersome to the point of ineffectiveness in any sort of battle. Assuming his shell is mode of incredible powerful armor that can withstand bank blasts, he would be even slower. His optic can only see in front of him, thereby limiting his combat ability. Even if he could see 360 degrees (as a battle machine should be able to do) his bulk and lack of speed would make him useless. So unless Warbot can open up and unleash an incredible payload of explosive missiles, I would say that he utterly fails as a Warbot.
That being said, I think his accounting skills are absolutely amazing.

When it comes to life, war, and love, Warbot's like Kel Mitchell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005239/), he works better when you don't look at him.

He fights like guns fight.

Think of him as a small tank rather than a large person.
Also he's only the 17th one! They may have worked out some of the mobility issues with the next models.
You know this to be true.

Aerodynamics.

I think that the people who made warbots were actually pretty wise.
You can make a robot, which has it own mind as we have seen, with speed, agility, many guns and so on. But the thing is that what if it turns against you? Wouldn't you be happier if it was little bit clumsy instead?

Who said I was a hater?
I believe the first thing I said was that I loved the comic.
And that is awesome.
Now I see that Warbot may not be a failure at war after all. However, you cannot hold that against me. There was no way a reader could know have known those holes in the chassis were for awesome weapons.
Badass!

Oh man. Now I'm imagining some other attachments for Warbot.
Like chainsaws. Or a giant birdhouse.

Also a custom user mod changes the warbot into a full-fledged sexbot!!!
It had to be said, I'm so sorry, if it wasn't me, someone else was going to. As soon as he mentioned attachments we all knew it was going to happen.

Keep poking that idea and you're going to end up creating the Mr Potato Head version of Warbot...
and no one wants a full line of toys out of warbot, right?
...because, really, i was just thinking of extra shield platting on the front and some rotating guns so it wouldn't be easily flanked on taken from behind.
Also: Mortar and grenade Launchers

Another thing to keep in mind is that more than one warbot is on the field at once. And they're probably networked together for maximum coverage and coordination. And each one has a sensor suite beyond the single forward-facing optic.

I don't know what the claw is supposed to be for, but Warbot always struck me as more of an artillery/support bot than a frontline combat engine.

Yeah, because Clevinger isn't SUCKING US DRY ALREADY WITH HIS...

... reasonably prized printed comic.
So, uh. When's the toyline coming out, Brian?
No, but seriously. That's actually not bad. I'd like a Warbot toy to accompany Masterpieces Prime, Starscream and Grimlock.
That'd look pretty neat, the way I see it. EDIT: Uh, in my mind's eye, I mean. Not that a Warbot toy would go well with Transformers as a rule, or something.

Removing debris from their path? I mean, the arms are very limited in movement it seems, but that's the most logical explanation I can think of.

A network of accounting warbots, all failing to navigate the human world! Terrific.

i still have somewhere im my pc the short blurb a spitted out in a sleepless night about this comic where Warbot goes to a Psychiatrist to deal with depression and the doctor tells him that he shouldn't try to hard to fit in, because robots aren't built to fit in and be equals to mankind... then he steps out of the office and see a newspaper with front page news of Robo getting a medal for saving orphans or something like that...
Brian has broken my fan-mind. Not even in Fanfic can Warbot win!

Honestly when I was looking at that 3D model thing I was thinking a toy'd look pretty rad.

If there's a good response to the Atomic Robo statue, then you can be damn sure we'll do a Warbot one as well.

I think you are looking at him from a wrong perspective. Of course he would loose in close combat with solider or even a mickey mouse :) but in real war he would have infantry support in his back that shoot every as***le trying to disable him. He can be big and have very limited agility but it doesnť have to matter. he is indestructible so he can push the line of battle, disturb enemy, crush fortifications. For Battle tactician is Warbot very big advance he just must know how to use him.
The point i want to make is: Don't make Warbot fight with Atomic Robo. Of course Atomic Robo will win. Atomic Robo is robot for special operations. Used to work alone inside enemy teritory. Warbot is robot made for war. Bloody, unforgiving, depresive war where only thing that matters is to survive another day...

Son, would you mess with something called Warbot? He's got one beady red eye, he NEVER talks, he's got a a claw going on(none of that hook/single claw business like mortal pirates) and in case you don't go near the business end of this metal monster, he can fall backwards on you. that's nigh-indestructible OMGFUTURE!!! grade armor that weighs so much a Warbot designed for it, still can't move. And his other arm speaks. Speaks in a language not even Superman has been able to see through.

My favorite part of Warbot is the yellow/black caution paint on his shoulder and leg pads. It makes him look more like equipment, which further sidelines his success as a hero.
Have you ever heard of a heroic piece of equipment? I love Warbot :)
Also, and I think it's in the FAQ, where the author says that there's a magic in using extremely unspecific graphics to express your characters. It's why 8-bit characters are so useful - why Warbot having only that 1 eye is so great. Who knew that a robotic cyclops with no eyebrows or any real face to speak of could be so expressive of frustration, inadequacy, or sadness?

The idea of having Robo and Warmachine statues like that only make me want a Nuklearpower table-top game.

Robo vs. Sarda vs. Kung-fu Master. I like it already. And then Red Mage and/or Fighter vs. Dr. Dinosaur. So much win can come out of this.
