So, I'm at episode 47 of Monster and really liking it. The fairy tale is awesome. Suk is cool in his own way. 42 made me WTF. Grimmer is one of my favorite characters so far. The whole "Magnificent Steiner" thing is kind of cool and sad at the same time.
After this I have no idea what I'll watch. Any recommendations? What have you been watching or even rewatching lately?

I'm still grinding my way through Slayers. I've gotten through the first two seasons, the first two movies, and Book of Spells. So, now I'm on Try. It seems to be getting better, but I have this feeling that I'll have wasted my time by the end.

I haven't seen too much Slayers, but I never really got the appeal of it.
EDIT: Toradora! 14 was good. Show continues to be great. I wish I could say more, but it's just one of those shows that anything you try to say to explain the appeal would either scare people away or fail to live up to the show itself.

LFM animes. I've already seen Death Note, Trigun, FMA, Naruto, and a lot of Bleach. I prefer ones that aren't too weird and don't like the ones that continue indefinitely past 400 episodes. Ending at 13-50 is fine with me. Preferable, in fact, because it means you don't have to deal with watching it religiously for 6 years only for it to turn lame like Bleach did. Its helpful if they're not too weird.

Basilisk isn't bad if you don't mind knowing pretty much by the time that you've seen 5 seconds of the intro that everyone is going to die by the end. Not my thing, but Phantom7 liked it.
I personally like what I've seen of Black Cat. Tons of gun action on par with pretty much any gun-oriented anime. Also seems intelligent enough, but I first caught it partway in and really haven't seen that much of the story. It's a little bishie, but I suppose that that's to be expected from Shonen Jump.
I find Fruits Basket hilarious from what I've seen, but it's also got a bit of a darker side to it. Some of it has some pretty good insight, too.
Past that, if you haven't seen Excel Saga, it's crazy funny. :D

Souske and Chidori were from vastly different worlds. It is no real stretch to believe that throughout the course of the series they would, in fact, not end up together. Japan in general has a habit of making anime that doesn't have a completely happy ending......or just has a down right sad one. I don't see how this is any worse than say an anime about a guy who can control peoples' minds with his left eye so he decides to hop a mech and fight a revolution.......or a contrived tale of an office worker who gets kidnapped at sea and decides to become a great mercenary with his captors, rubbing elbows with Russians mob bosses, crime syndicates, and arms dealing nuns.
EDIT: Plus the show actually capitalized a lot of its humor off of the misunderstandings that occurred based on the differences in thought process of a teen-boy super-soldier and a common sense using temperamental girl.

Well, now that Fifth has ranted about FMP, I feel comfortable expressing my less vitriolic opinion that it was boring, stayed boring, and I dropped it. I didn't really care about anyone, I didn't really care what was happening, and I didn't care to watch two more seasons. The mech design was alright.
Sort of like Slayers, except Slayers has Xellos, and he's pretty amusing for an omghax character. Slayers could use some giant robots.
Hey, quick question. Am I the only guy out there that's seen the anime Bartender? And if not, what'd you think of it? I've been wanting to have a good conversation about the anime based on booze with someone but I practically have to make people watch it first so that said convo can take place.
Also, if you haven't seen it, I'd suggest it. It's only like 12 episodes and as a bonus you get to learn a lot about various alcoholic beverages and their histories. And, as a bonus, during each episode's ending credits they teach you how to make the featured drink of the episode.

Generally I will agree it's the case that over the course of a series that two characters from different walks of life might not end up together.
The problem is that in FMP it was completely retarded by the third Goddamn episode that the two main characters haven't ended up together and there's no good reason for them doing so except for that both of them are mentally handicapped and Mechsie McTactics is apparently the Man With No Penis. Or he just doesn't like girls I don't know.

Which is to say the show capitalized all its humor from the exact same misunderstanding, repeated over and over again for like 24 Goddamn episodes, and then an entire second series wherein they could then repeat the same Goddamn misunderstanding for another 24 episodes.

That's usually the case with comedy based anything. Unless it's random it'll start to suck around ep 5.
Mechie McTactics is apparently the Man With No Penis. Or he just doesn't like girls I don't know.
Well to be fair, they do make it a point often in the series that he's a certified soldier to the core. His entire history is based of taking orders and killing people. He is dogged constantly about how he is so female-inept by his own teammates. Frankly, he just plays the part of the unobservant guy that just doesn't get it. That's his role in the show. Near the end he does start to grapple with his feelings for Chidori, but as usual, the soldier and protector in him come out on top.
It's pretty close to the same role of the guy in all those harem animes where the guy is surrounded by like five to seven women and really wants nothing to do with any of them. We don't say that guy hates girls do we? He just doesn't like being in the middle of an often dangerous catfight.
To be honest though, I enjoyed watching the show for the mech designs and seeing just what Souske would do to piss off Chidori that episode. If you weren't up for the messed up relationship they were in, I can understand the tech not being enough to keep you watching.

I didn't watch the series, but i read the manga, and from a friend who read and watched both, he said the manga was much more enjoyable.
It's probably my favorite slice of life manga for the feelings attached to each drink and the memories they bring back and how the bartender figures it out. It's almost like a simplistic version of a detective show....but with drinks. So its more like real life detectives.
Gundam 00 episode 14 was interesting, and a good number amount of plot was explaned. Also, the Gundams actually showed their awesomeness for once rather than just them getting the mess beat out of them showing how "advanced" they are.

Casshern: I killed Luna.
Robot: Kill Casshern.
Other Robot: Casshern is mah buddy.
Robot: Devour Casshern.
Casshern: No, don't!
Other Robot: Casshern is still mah buddy.
Robot: You killed Luna!
Casshern: I killed Luna? I... I... I killed Luna! *Goes crazy*
Robot: *Dies*
Other Robot: Casshern is mah bestest buddy.
Specifically the fact that no matter how many times he accepts that he killed Luna and says it himself, if somebody else tells him he did it, he goes all crazy and whatnot.

I'd like to recommend Claymore for anyone out there looking for a good action series that has strong, non sexualized, and interesting female main leads, as well as a ton of kickass monster designs. If one can ignore/stand Raki for say, the first two episodes as the world building is going on, it starts getting really into gear, and it maintains as one of the best series for the rest of its run, even given the altered ending. (The series followed the manga for the most part, but the manga is still a monthly ongoing so they had to change a few things near the end.)

As usual, I'll throw out some of what I've seen:
Noir. Anime about a couple of assassins wrapped up in trouble with Les Soldats. Smooth, realistic action. Lovely musical scores. I've yet to finish the series (I think it was around 20-30 episodes), but intend on doing so when I get back to Kadena.
Chobits. I've only seen the first episode, so my judgement on this is a little less thourough. If the rest of the series is as funny(or funnier) than the first, then this should be a great series. Seen some perverted humor from the main character.
Full Metal Alchemist. If you haven't watched it, change that now. Lots of action, some strange pseudo-science, and lots of good times to be had. Animation is smooth and pleasant.
Detective Conan. This is a pure mystery anime. I find it to be mentally intriguing with a nice storyline along with it. Sadly, I haven't seen how/if it's finished out yet, but I did get a few dozen episodes in. Has it's funny moments, and has it's serious moments.
FLCL. Fooly Cooly. Oh god, how to start....Lesse...Less than 10 episodes, random as all high-hell, bloody brilliant music and atmosphere, and packed full of good action and comedy. Everyone should see this anime, just to say "wtf?" after it's over. And it's short, so not much time to lose by checking it out.
Trigun. Shoot'em up action and fun. Quirky main character with a past, and even more hilarity. This is a nice mixture of action/comedy. Highly recommend.
Hellsing. Need I say anymore? Okay, fine. Dark vampire anime. Bloody, fun, and just wonderful. Sometimes this guy puts out some good one liners. Oh, and the phrase he wants "police girl" to remember....XD
Dragonball Z. Just kidding. Avoid it like the plague :P

So, they made Hellsing Ultimate which sticks to the manga to it like bear to honey. The last bad guy in Hellsing was stupid and didn't deserve the slot. Hopefully the OVAs will prove to be much better.

I read the Azumanga Daioh manga. It made me cry at the end, but that was probably more because I was fresh out of high school when I read the last book, and GODDAMN that last chapter hit too close to home.
I always start watching the anime, and then forget to keep watching it after the first session. I've seen the first three episodes like three times now, because I refuse to pick an anime up from the midway point, even if the plot is non-existant.
As for other animes I like to recommend...
Love Hina, if you like Harem style animes. This is the show that got me BACK into animes after going into my "Everything I liked as a kid was lame" phase that made me hate DBZ and all other anime (I got better). Basically, Keitaro is a loser who became the manager of an all-girls dorm, with three of the tenants being close to his age, and the other two tenants being in middle school, and all five wanting to get into his pants. Don't worry though; besides mild fanservice (At least compared to the manga >.>), Keitaro never does anything. Like, at all. They needed two movies and a three-episode OVA series just to catch up to the part of the manga where he actually got something accomplished in his life.
Chobits was... interesting. The ending confused the hell out of me, but the first dozen episodes were fun. The problem is that it tries to drop the plot on you in the last six episodes or so, after all the other parts of the story did nothing but vaguely hint at Chii's dark and broody past. And then all the comedy dies and a part of your soul dies with it.
Chrono Crusade; depends on whether or not you can tolerate a boring as all fuck middle arc. I've hailed this series as having the most tear-jerking ending sequence I've ever seen, but CHRIST getting to it can be an uphill battle. The main characters are likable enough, but they get stuck fighting battle after battle in the middle of the series, which is something it cannot do all that well. The character interactions is what kept me going through the series, despite it being marketed as an action anime. The manga, oddly enough, delivers VERY well on both fronts, handles the ending completely differently (With an even MORE tear-jerking ending), but turns it into a save-the-world dealio. All in all, the manga is superior, but the anime should be watched as well.
I'm a big fan of Gundam, but that's because I grew up salivating at the prospect of piloting robots, and discovering the original Gundam series (And it's immediate sequel, Zeta Gundam) grabbed the part of me that loved robots as a kid and kept me hostage. If you like drama with a hint of robot goodness, Gundam is for you.

AD is one of those shows that even anime fans of different genres and with various tastes can still get together and enjoy, agreeing that it's a good time. There's a reason why it exploded all over the place when it came out.
I suppose I should take my own implied advice from above and apply it to TGL, but I have difficulty liking it. But I digress, that is a topic I don't need to visit again.

EDIT: I never thought I'd say this, but Studio Shaft surpassed the Picardwtfisthisshit.jpg-level they set in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei with Maria+Holic's opening (http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/maria%2Bholic%2Bopening/video/x8128s_maria-holic-opening_shortfilms).

Afro Samurai: Resurrection (http://www.spike.com/full-episode/exclusive-premiere/29787) available to legally watch on Spike.com! Fuck yeah!
Note: Afro Samurai is a pretty graphic, though fucking awesome show. If you aren't prepared to handle gallons of blood, don't watch.

Eh. It worked.
I am like 5 episodes behind on ToraDora shame shame shame.
I did, however, catch the latest Candy Boy. Incestuous high school twin yuri that's actually done well? What the fuck?
As to Maria Holic, I still maintain that the first Goku SZS opening trumps MH's. Still pretty wacky, though. It might top Pani Poni Dash's, but that's a maybe.

My AD Box set came in the mail today.

You are only just now getting it? Fail.
Marathon watch it. It's fun. I love boxed sets because of this. I just finished doing it with like 4 seasons of The Next Generation.

I tend to miss class and work when I get a new show to watch coupled with the ability to watch it all right now. I watched 49 episodes of GaoGaiGar in one sitting right after I watched all of Gurren Lagann. Then I watched like 4 episodes of Gad Guard before I collapsed in robot induced shock. A week later I watched the then current 5 seasons of NCIS in one sitting. I need to learn some restraint.
Still haven't finished Gad Guard though.

I ordered it after watching it 3 times for free on veoh. I figure that if something can hold my interest that long for free then it's probably worth a buy to support those who worked on something I enjoyed immensely. Considering I just recently rediscovered Azumanga, I feel I was rather timely in my Azumanga purchase, thank you very much!

I thought it was kinda nifty, not as nifty as the originals, but still a good listen.
Also, started watching Cowboy Bebop again. Not only is it better than I remembered, but also a lot sadder. The episode where Ed and Ein leave made me cry.
EDIT: RT, does this make up for the rap version? Bure Shoujo VER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jmWfLKkLpw&fmt=18) Sounds pretty much like the original, but with some more emphasis on the female voices.
MOAR EDIT: I think one of my favorite things about Paprika is the relationships. Especially between the main chick and the fat guy. The fat guy is awesome.
