I've been a fan of the series for 7 years now, and I can't personally say I will be much longer. 1, 2, and 3, were fine, then Capcom took RE, plucked out its eye and made love to its skull with the travesty known as RE: Code Veronica. It kept going down from there, with RE 0 barely making more sense than CV, and introducing just about as many plotholes. RE4 isn't shaping up to look very good either, though it's a bit early to judge. I doubt I'll even bother getting it unless the upcoming RE: Outbreak proves to be as entertaining as it sounds. Comments? Questions? Ninja? O_o! *Is stabbed with a kunai* X__X

Yes it has fallen from it's once mighty perch as the founder(if not it should be) of the survival horror genre. Now let us have a moment of silence for this fallen series

I have to Agree, the whole Shock Scare just doesn't work anymore, I think they should take cues from Konami and make it more a game that messes with your mind and stuff.

I never got Resident Evil to begin with. How anyone can play games with control that bad is beyond me...

They aren't so much games as they are "exercises in frustration."
Then there was Parasite Eve 2, which was basically "Resident Evil: Kill Everything." With Mitochondria Magic.

I think that if they try better with resident evil 4 and keep with an interesting story this series could be saved....[B]

I've been an RE Fan for two or three years, and I admit the formula's getting a little beaten out. RE4 looks like a desperate attempt to jump-start the series, although it looks more like some kind of acid trip. Watch Leon wake up in a psyche ward or something.
But these two things, and I'm sure other people have noticed them:
#1: Saying "Hang in there!" or any variants, gets someone killed.
See Jill with Richard in RE1, Claire with Marvin in RE2.
#2: "Alright, this is the most expensive take in the movie, and we only get one shot at it!"
The place always conveniently blows up in the end, vaporizing any evidence that anything happened. (Mansion, Raccoon City, That Base in the Anarctic, Sheena Island in Survivor, Cruise Ship in Dead Aim...)

I've only played the RE1 remake for GC but I love it.
With that I bow out because I don't have anything to add to your discussion about its fall...
Meh. I think you guys are all just whiners. I think that the series is fine like it is, HOWEVER, the best part of the series has come and gone, more specificly RE2 and the REmake. C:V isn't that bad, in fact, sometimes I enjoy it's emphasis on blowing the unholy hell out of stuff.

I think Resident Evil needs to get back to its roots. As in scaring the bajeezus out of people. Am I the only one that screamed like a little girl when that licker busted through that interrogation room mirror in RE2 (I think true RE fans know what I'm talking about)? Capcom did a kick-ass job with the RE1 remake. The crimsonheads really made that the best RE game hands down. It was the only thing since RE2 that really scared me. The first time I walked passed a body and it got up in that one quick motion and started RUNNING at me, I almost wet myself. And no matter what, you've got to hand it to the RE creators: they bring something new to the table in almost every game. RE 3 had the whole dodging thing. Code Veronica experimented with moving screens. RE Zero had the whole partners and item dropping thing. What I hope to see in FF4 is a buttload of new monsters. That's the only thing that I think they need to improve at this point.

RE4 actually will feature analog control, and the switch to near-fpv(it looks like you are behind his shoulder) when shooting, so hopefully this will save those of you who hated the game for this sole reason. As for the story, it is about how Leon is infected with a virus (i'm not even gonna try and figure out which one, there are too many) and him looking for the cure before it consumes him. Also there are new enemies that make me think almost of shadow wraiths or something like that.
Hey hey hey whoa....I don't like the sound of this one bit.
I have been playing RE since the very first, and I have been loving each and every one. I don't see why y'all have to be busting CV nuts. It's not scary, that's true, but it was hard, and had an interesting story line. Just becuase it wasn't as scary as the rest of them doesn't make it a pile of shit, does it?
The only RE game that I haven't liked so far is 0. I got bored very quickly with that game. It was just boring. It wasn't scary. The shotgun was toned down to being almost worthless. And I spent nearly all my ammo on the first boss but...so yeah. I didn't beat the game and I don't plan to. It's just boring.
It seems RE4 is going to try and buncha new things, since it seems most of you are tired of the other stuff. That ghost zombie that walked right through Leon's shots; the bisected deer torso moving, with a look of pure horror on it's face; the weird looking teddy bear; and who can forget the black blob. All of these things seem ingridients for a very interesting RE.

RE2 and RE3. Great games. Sucky storylines. Action not drama. something a scary game needs.
(Will never pick up Silent Hill 1,2 or 3 again...)

Which comes first, Resident Evil 4 (GC) or Resident Evil Online (PS2)?
I'm no big fan of the RE series to begin with (sorry, not a horror fan), but RE:Online looks fairly interesting from the images in the January 2003 edition of PSM, and I noticed it was rather lacking in the discussion of RE.
