I completly forgot this was out...

http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=eWQYNjWqQcE&feature=related

I recall it after that whole Dragonballl Evolution trailer deal... and since the other thread about this anime had basicly turned into talk about the movie... i guess this is as good as analog as any to the proper quality of the Upcoming movie.

So, this is a shot new special OVA, just 35 minutes long. A few new characters 9so you know they are going to show up in the next fighting game...) and the usual DBZ fare... including too-long power up sequences!

There are several tidbits of it on Youtube (there is probably the whole thing too...) as i have no idea of when it will come out of Japan, so enjoy it!

Download the browser (button is near the bottom of the page) and you can watch the whole thing with English subtitles. This way is legal and complete.

Its just a TV special, but it was good to see them back in action. Not to mention Yamcha finally gets to show off his Spirit Ball technique, which I think is probably the coolest and most underused ability in all of DBZ.

The whole thing with Vegeta having a brother just might be a workaround to maybe bring foward the much desired "delete" of GT and a new DBZ Cartoon.... i mean, they went as far as to remake the entire opening... and yes, it's just for celebration... but still, one can dream!

Vegeta having a brother is perhaps among the LEAST distressing revelations of DBZ.

1. Goku is an alien
2. Goku has a brother
3. Goku was sent to Earth as a baby to destroy the entire planet
4. Goku hit his head as a baby

And that's just in the first 3 or 4 episodes.

Let's not forget that Trunks is from the future, Goku is a super saiyan, Kami has a convenient training room in which time passes more slowly, Garlic Jr. escaped the deadzone because of the alignment of stars, and King Kai is just one of four kai's serving a grand kai who himself serves a supreme kai who in turn answers to a much older kai.

But yes, the remade opening is awesome and looks great.

Let's not forget the great nerf... Goku isnt the Legendary Super Saiyan... Brolly is.

Honestly? I enjoyed this special very much so. I liked how it really didn't take itself seriously in it's entire premise and is nice to old characters back on screen.

I think the problem (Of quite a few!) is that the entire cast got far too large to follow evenly, and this is evident watching the amount of characters appear in this Special. I was distressed to see Piccolo shunted to more of a comic relief character, and also Gohan taking a back seat to the DBZ story as I always got the feeling from the Z sagas that it was mostly his story (From The Saiyan Saga to the Cell saga anyway.) There are some genuinely interesting characters on the show that I would have liked to see more of.

Also, Hooray for Bubbles and seeing Vegeta doing anything remotely comic relief; as both always amuse me.

I really do love Goku. He's just so innocent.
Also it's nice to see that Abo and Cabo took their defeat well.

Also I never really understood all the GT hatred. Sure it had its flaws, but it had its redeeming moments too. Like Goku stripping naked to swim right in front of Pan. And who could forget Vegeta's mustache.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, Omega Shinron is the only main villain to ever be successfully destroyed by the spirit bomb.

Vegeta: Survives 2 of them
Freeza: Survives 1
Cell: Survives EVERYTHING.
Kid Buu: TECHNICALLY destroyed, but reborn as Uub.

Although in Shinron's defense... that universal spirit bomb had to have hurt pretty badly.

Oh, I really missed Dragon Ball, Roshi and after the budokai games, I missed Hercule Mr Satan too, I'm lucky the mexican dub didn't really add/remove anything :D, I prefer the mexican dub to the japanese because the voices seem more fitting, and over the US dub because it's not lame; lets say the ova gets dubbed in the US: *Tarble's ship passes through the city and knock's over a car* "Tarble: It seems whoever was in the car ejected just in time"

BTW, I just noticed... :sweatdrop

Kakarrot - Carrot
Raditz- Radish
Vegeta - Vegeta(ble)
What's a Nappa? and a Tarble?
Trunks - some sort of underwear (learned it at Paper Mario TTYD :D)

Oh, and I don't like the new logo :gonk:.

Here:

...The new Dragon Ball Z OAV that we were discussing here (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=30663) back in September has just been subbed. The action scenes were well-choreographed, and it was really great to see all the characters together again. The only downside I can think of is that it will leave a bad aftertaste, just because you know there won't be something similar to this for a long time.

Admittedly, you probably won't find a lot of enjoyment if you aren't a hardcore Dragon Ball fan. It is, before all, a trip down memory lane, and I give it a hilarioustastic! out of five.

After having recently acquired nearly the entire dragon ball z series on DVD, I can say, conclusively, that Pre-Namekian filler is horrifically painful to sit through, and that the Garlic Jr. saga... still sucks.

I love the radish Roshi pulls out of the ground. He's such a horrible old man.

Poor Krillin. Strongest human ( maybe Yamcha's stronger than him, so second strongest ) but still has trouble pulling out a radish.

I'm lucky the mexican dub didn't really add/remove anything :D, I prefer the mexican dub to the japanese because the voices seem more fitting, and over the US dub because it's not lame; lets say the ova gets dubbed in the US: *Tarble's ship passes through the city and knock's over a car* "Tarble: It seems whoever was in the car ejected just in time"

I love the Brazilian portuguese dub because of this. The voices are perfect and they don't cut stuff or add things to make it kid-friendly.

Also: How the heck did Gotenks turn into fat Gotenks and then un-fuse? It took a hour before, what, in two years without practice they figured how to cancel their fusion whenever they wanted? I know it was just for the comic relief but there's usually some explanation.

I think it's agreed that Tien-Shin-Han is the strongest human, not Krillin.

The Latin American dubs, both Spanish and Brazilian, did an awesome job conveying the characters. Mario Castañeda's reign as adult Goku is the definitive version. Child Goku is also adorable.

Okay dude, hitting your head as a child is not a distressing revelation and is in fact mildly amusing, particularly when in reference to a fictional super-death-baby.

Goku's voice is so high. Just wow.

In Japan, Goku and Gohan are both voiced by a woman named Masako something or other. This was done because they felt it conveyed the innocent nature of his personality.

And because they were lazy and preferred not to change voice actors.

He has three eyes. I refuse to believe he's entirely human.

He has three eyes. I refuse to believe he's entirely human.

Perhaps not entirely, as he is descended from a race of three-eyed people, but I think we can all agree that Krillin is the strongest normal human, though Tien is the stronger among human subspecies.

The third eye tends to be an enlightenment thing, although I think Goku's the only character who actually achieved that.

Nappa would be a type of cabbage commonly used in Japan. You find it in the good gyoza.

As for Tarble? Well, you've got me... I don't know what kind of veggie they're trying to pass off there.

Nice to see projects like this are still coming around. Honestly, the previews for Dragonball Evolution make me want to vomit.

Tarble could be a Japanese twist on "Table". Like Sword can be said "Swordo" (me thinks)

p.s. Turless= turnip?

-sigh-

I might as well add to this insane theory.

Vegeta = Vegetable
Raditz = Radish
Napa = An inside joke from back on planet vegeta about ugly stupid bald people. In retrospect, not the most clever name for a baby.
Broley = Broccoli
Turles = Turnips
Tarble = Doesn't even count cause he's such a weak saiyan that his father decided that the gag wasn't worthy of his inferior abilities.
Kakkrot = Carrot
Gohan = Name of the grandfather of the carrot
Trunks = A name definitely devised under the the influence of alcohol. And lots of it.
Bra = A name devised while under the influence of alcohol, meth, pot, acid, crack, LCD, and window varnish. Seriously. NOBODY would name their daughter Bra. Not even in japan.
Pan = A pan. Like from cooking.
Goten = Goat in. Its a quote from Twilight Princess.

Last I remember, all Saiyans were named after vegetables and all of Bulma's family were named after clothes.

Oh, and Napa was a turnip I thought, but it may have been a cabbage as was said earlier.

I dispute this on the basis that it implies there is gyoza that isn't good.

Seriously, gyoza is awesome.

And Pan is supposed to be bread, because that's what they call bread in the non-english speaking parts of the world. I have no idea what the hell goten is though. Maybe it means lunch?

Jagos
12-18-2008, 12:17 AM
That's Gohan. It can mean lunch

Goten was created just to appease the DBZ lovers after Goku was born. But he doesn't have a veggie name because he wasn't born on planet Vegeta.

I'll grant you that. Alright, how about the fuckin' great gyoza? That work?

On another thought, I suppose if Vegeta and lil brother ever learned to fuse, would it be a given that the name would be Vegetarble?

...I should drink more often....

And LS... you missed Paragus, Broli's dad. Asparagus.

I think they need to make a new series in the vein of this special. Every episode, a new villain shows up and is not nearly powerful enough to be taken seriously by the main cast. The villain is then used for training practice until either he does something vaguely threatening, or they get their fill. There will also be ten minute shorts of the defeated villains attending therapy.

Edit: Just realised there's a remix of the instrumental Makafushigi Adventure playing when Goku jumps in. This pleases me.
