I don't think there's a thread on this yet. Has anybody else watched the Legend of the Seeker, allegedly based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series?
I haven't read the books, to be honest. They're on my to-do list, however I have checked out the first couple of episodes of this show. My conclusion is that they overdo the slow-motion, the fight scenes are decent, Zedd is made of awesome, and the acting (the main character notwithstanding) is alright for a new TV series.
In all honesty, its been so long since an honest to God fantasy TV show that it could be much worse and I'd still be interested. Definitely room for improvement, though, along with potential. Hopefully the show lasts long enough to fulfill what could be some good TV.

I read the first five books (well, first four, 50 pages of the fifth...) and they are so much better than this show. And if you think Zedd is awesome in the show, wait until you see him in the books!

Reminds me of Hercules The Legendary Journeys and Xena Warrior Princess, pretty much. I think they use a slightly better quality of film, maybe. I really put them exactly on the level of those, and they were decent, to me. The first two episodes have been completely generic fantasy, so I hope they pick up a little bit. I haven't read the books, but I assume that as there are about 5 or 6 of them there must be some more original plot lines created eventually, as the first one came out in, what, 1994? Yeah, he must have come up with some more original stuff to be competitive at that time.
Zeddicus is a wizard, it's hard to ruin the awesomeness of wizardry.

Same makers, same formula. Not really shocking there.

I think there's 11, actually. And honestly, I'm not sure how 'original' the plot lines are. I've read the plot synopsis on the books, and it all seems pretty standard fantasy... but really well done standard fantasy.

True. But get this: the actor playing Zeddicus also played Sauron on LOTR3. That basically doubles his coolness.

I am a fan of the SoT series, it's like a giant epic fantasy action movie, and word of the TV adaptation made me happy... then I tried watching it. The show sucks, tosses everything that made the books at all interesting and just used the names and a few concepts. I tried watching it again, reminding myself at every turn that this was just a show, it had nothing to do with the books I love to read... and then I get angry again and block it form my mind. I have tried watching the first episode about 6 times and cannot remember more than the first couple minutes of Kahlan and her sister running from what should be a quad... Without wizards accompanying her, or her sister already being dead, and adding in a couple other retarded bits...

As the Sword of Truth books go on they get REALLY preachy. By the fourth book you start to choke on it, and the plot gets so... so... well... meh. It's like the Dominic Deegan of Novels. It starts out fun and great then things get mired down in one disaster after another, also Kahlan is useless. Everything she does to help, minus a part in a kick ass 300 men versus a flood of bodies type war in one of the earlier books, just FUBARs everything else up.
Also they have one of the most truly ruthless and scary villains ever and the ending basically drowns in anticlimatical ooze.
