So, about half way through it, and it makes me embarrassed of mankind. It also makes me very annoyed at the "remake." Michael Rennie smiles all the time and is a very interesting Klaatu. Keanu Reaves, from what I've seen in the trailer, is some form of soulless puppet who isn't able to show emotion. The remake seems to have very little, if anything, to do with the movie it's based on.

Klaatu barada nikto!
That movie was just odd.
They're remaking it? I guarantee you it will be about the War on Terror.

Odd? I didn't find it odd at all. Interesting and well done, in my opinion. Actually, I'd bet that the "remake" is going to be about global warming and how we're destroying the planet or something.

Keanu Reeves playing a soul-less puppet which expresses no emotion?

Too damn easy, I won't even bother...

The only question is, will it be as cruddy an update of classic sci-fi as War of the Worlds?

I found it didn't focus very well. The middle part of the movie was like "Klaatu and friends".

I guess I see your point. I do feel that the movie was better for having that part, showing Klaatu trying to understand the world and all, and they should have tied that into the ending better.

Odd? The short story (http://thenostalgialeague.com/olmag/bates.html) it was based on was oodles odder.

Last I heard, instead of warning humans about becoming a threat to other planets, Klaatu will be warning earthlings about becoming a threat to themselves. I think it may deal with climate change.

Why would aliens care if we killed ourselves?
I mean the point of the first movie was that they were scared that humans were becoming too warlike and would threaten ALIEN life now that they had nukes.

This isn't one of those plots where the aliens decide to kill us to prevent us from destroying ourselves? Because Will Smith already did that stupid remake idea in the remake of I, Robot.

I think the fact that this is not really an extremely widely watched film in the first place just sort of shows it's a money-grubbing attempt to found some new license, appeal to a wider audience and cash-in. It's kind of like if they remade Army of Darkness. It's just a sort of niche film that's perfect to its fans, but I could easily see them remaking it starring, oh, Ashton Kutcher, and making us all lose hope in mankind even more so than the aliens in this movie.
