Wow! You got the joke!
Seriously, if I had to wield them, I would grasp the chain and try to whirl the swords vertically beside my body. Or, I would tuck one sword under my arm, grasp its hilt, and use the other sword as a flail.

Oh, you can use 'em. You can't have 1337 ninja swinging and jumping 5|<1|_|_Z while using them, but still. All you really get is a horizontal and vertical swing, and you have to swing them together.
Unless, of course (and I just thought about this), you give the Swordchucks Throwing and Returning, then you can be 1337 and ninja-y with it all you want as long as you don't lob your own head/arm/torso off. All you gotta do is hold one as you swing, and the other would just come back after hitting.

just grab the chain in the middle and start spinning your body at high speed. You'd be like a twirlling tornado of pointed death.
Of course you couldn't stop once you started spinning...

Don't doubt a weapon like sword-chucks.
After all, they make 3-piece long nunchucks. Do you know how to use those, Mr. Smarty McPants?

I think you could a Londsword one by the grip and swing a Shortsword attached to a chain out to strike farther distances you just have to be cobstanly moving to keep the extended blade from coming back and stabbing you.
Make a DC15 saving throw or deal 1d8+str mod to your self each time you use this to attack enemies more than 5ft away from you. you must move at least 5 ft a round or take -2 penalty on all attacks made with Swordchucks.
That's what I used in my campaign

I don't wanna get too technical here, but sword chucks are definitely impossible.
It's hard enough to refrain from smacking yourself in the head with regular nunchaka (trust me, I know :p). Plus, if you take into consideration the inherent way you're supposed to properly use them, you'd end up slicing yourself in half if you tried to use sword-chucks.
My two cents. :p

They would work as a defensive tool, I think. Perhaps more grappling use than striking.
(And if you keep hitting yourself with nunchuku, practice with foam ones first, THEN move up to wooden ones. It'll save ya some bruises.)

I don't whack myself anymore. :p
And you really oughtn't train with foam ones first, because you get used to that weight, and when you try to adjust to actual nunchaka, it doesn't work well.
Grappling, eh? Nah.. the thing is you have to be able to stop that quickly. If you can't stop something you really don't have any control over it.
The way you stop nunchaka is you let the chain/rope go across your hip, and have the stick part whack you in the butt (it doesn't hurt). Either that or you can rotate it and swing it up over your shoulder.
Putting a blade on it would interfere with both of those. :p

I meant, grappling as in chain & blade style. Swinging it would be nigh impossible to control. So, using this (hypothetical) weapon would probably entail blocking attacks and then disarming the opponent. Then the stabbage comes.

Grab the chain and start swinging, just make sure you're wearing some Armor of Invincibility!
I imagine stats for the Sword-Chuck (by d20 standard) wouldn't be any different from a spiked chain. It's simply a smaller chain with much large spikes.
Though I could probably grip it by the chain and swing both swords that way... or being me, I might add a second chain connecting to the center of the first and placing a handle there. Then It would swing more like a flail. That's still dangerous though.
Who am I kidding. I'd use a normal Greatsword and club someone with that... there's no reason to be fancy about it.

Concur. I like swords, but Swordchucks aren't suppose to work. When will you people get it! Its a joke!

Holy crap! Lightsaber-chucks is just too much. But anyway, I say give the sword-chucks a chain long enough to wield the 2 swords as usual. Then you could use the second sword as sort of a flail, if necessary.
Or mebbe that idea sucks. If only that wizard hadn't returned things to normal! (Remember, in the future, Fighter had mastered the art of sword-chuckery).

Actually, I believe it would be possible to master sword chucks, and turn them into decent fighting weapons. Actually, the'd rock, because no one would no how to fight against them.
To understand how they would work, first hang around people who do poi (objects spun at the end of ropes, including balls of flame at the end of chains, with one chain in each hand). There's all sorts of weaves that can be done. Moreover, there's many ways to rapidly wrap and reverse the spin on either or both, slowing an otherwise ridiculously fast and dangerous object to something that impacts the body with relatively little force. If the sword chucks have any kind of handle at all (last time I checked, they did), the flat part of the handle would catch as the last point of impact (the blade would need to be light, preferably like the ultra sharp Tai Chi blades). Side note: I've seen this done with fire.
Sword chucks could also incorporate techniques used with morning stars, as well as standard swords themselves (either standard or reversed grip). Nunchucku action could be combined with the above mixed and matched 3 styles as well, though from what I've seen, there'd be a higher likelyhood of cutting oneself. Hence the need for true mastery.
Anyway, I'm sure all this would require ultralight metals (yay mithral), incredible strength (yay Fighter), and great dexterity and mastery (yay... uh oh!)
-Edgerunner
Perhaps if you simply use the sword chuck like regular swords... and then the chain between can be used to help parry against opponent's attacks. It would also be helpful because if you dropped one sword, it wouldn't fall to the ground, but rather would just more or less hand off the chain attached to the hilt of the other.
All this is in assumption that the sword chucks are given hilts.

In addition to some of the good ideas already posted here, it could be possible to have swordchucks composing of one short sword and one dagger. The wielder would hold the hilt of the dagger in normal dagger-ish fasion, and swing the short sword on its chain. Controlling the short sword would require quite a bit dexterity and quick planning, and then whenever the opponent gets within stabbing range, the dagger comes in handy... But then again, this wouldn't really be a swordchuks... It would be a sword-and-dagger-chucks. =\

Swordchucks...some say it's impossible and shouldn't be aloowed in DND. I had to argue back with worse weapon combinations.

Sword-chucks can work! Fighter will find out!
Remember, ppl used to think only birds could fly. So of course Fighter will find a way!
Lightsaber-chucks... maybe Fighter will get a great-great-great-great-great(continue this for an hour)-grandson named Jedi Version 2.1. And he will invent Lightsaber-chucks!
I know it's a joke, but nothing is impossible!

Lightsaberchucks would actually be far more practical than sword chucks... Using the force you could both guide them true, and switch them on and off at the appropriate timing so that you don't hack your own body to little steamy bits. They wouldn't even need to use actual chains... They could use the kind of bonding that holds the podracers' engines on to the pods... this would of course dissallow the jedi from holding the chain, but it would be much cooler and could be thrown in a way that everything but the handles creates sweet chopitty death. ^_^
Come on they rule. You hold them by the cain in the cent or use t
them as a flail. Or you could use them as a reach weapon if the chain is long anough
iether way works.
GO FIGHTER!!!
but yah its sapposed to be a joke but sadly all us gamers take it seariously and come up with rules for them. :rmage:

All it takes to use sword chucks is a lifetime of nonstop training and total dedication of the mind and body. That's it, really...
Ye do not know the true powers of swordchucks, true I do not have my left arm anymore but STILL I did destroy a legion of the undead singlehandedly with swordchucks. As was pointed out earlier the trick is in making the side of the blade (the non sharp bit) smack against you.
Anyway, I'm off to find some bandages... for my lost arm.... Stop laughing! I was once like you!

I figured out how to wield sword-chucks... It's actually quite easy, if you're ambidextrous. See, what you do is wield them like a pair of swords, and the chain is used to strangle people. That way, you can throttle them then disembowel them!

What about chuck-chucks? I mean if we have sword chucks, then chuck-chucks, then make sword-chucks-chucks, we have 4 swords, right?
But what if we have sword-bolas? I mean it'll work the same way, and stab them instead of bashing them with balls?
OR
sword-chuck-chuck-bolas? So thats like 4 swords plus a handle, and it stabs 4 times.
(I think i better shut up now, Or ill be chucking all kinds of poop in this, MWAHAHA!)
:fighter: <--sword-chuckkery
I can sort of see how they'd work. You'd have to practice (like a LOT) with bladeless nunchaka, or with ones with a fake blade, before you could get any good at it. And if you messed up even once, if you lived, you could be nicknamed Stumpy for the rest of your life. But all that is also true with a sword or any other sharp object.
The swords would have to have a very long handle and maybe not so much blade, so that you can be sure to catch the handle on a swing; and if you don't, the handle will hit you, not the blade. It would have to be more like knife-chucks. The blades would have to be lighter than a traditional sword blade. The chain would have to be long enough to allow for swinging around the body without severing one's own head. It could be used alternately as a flail, as a pair of short swords, or (carefully) as nunchaka that cannot be allowed to hit your body.
The advantages would be that you would be physically farther away from your opponent, so if you have sword-chucks and he just has a sword, he won't be able to get close enough to you to stick you with it.

Well, really, they can be used all those ways, not just one. You could use them like normal swords with chain to parry, or use one as a flail and the other as a counter for when one blocks the flail,(right as the opponent blocks it, I imagine it's the equivilent of trying to block a sword and missing, as you've got sword in the same hand you just blocked against ready to lacerate) or in any number of ways. Heck, one could rig up a contraption that allowed for the swords to detach and the chain to retract into on of the hilts.
But since it's an imaginary weapon, we can only speculate until someone makes the things and tests them.

i think the most destructive way that you could use sword-chucks is this:
give them to an enemy and convince them that they're an efficient weapon.

I know precious little about sword design, but I do know that a sword's function is denoted by the shape of the sword. Straight edged swords are used primarily for stabbing, while curved swords, such as scimitars, have a razor edge that is enhanced by the sword's shape.
Now, the main purpose of a sword-chuck would have to be slashing. Grabbing both blades and using them normally is ridiculous because you are then limiting yourself on how far your reach goes. Putting handcuffs on yourself and then going to a sword-fight is not a good idea. Thus, you are left with slashing. Fighter seems to have a penchant for straight-edged swords, as well as stabbing. Optimally, you would have to use a curved sword, which would be hard to keep under control because of its lopsided shape.
Not that having a straight edged sword-chucks would be a bad idea, someone mentioned having only single edged swords so that you could stop them easier.
Again, I know very little about blades.
I'll shut up now.

It is quite simple. Zelda all happens in Link's subconscious mind! When his mental image of himself reaches 'full health' or full strength he gets the ability to change the world around him but because of stupidity he only uses it to shoot lasers from his blade. Hope that explains everything.

One of the races I created at one time, known as Lunites, use a ritualistic blade. It is a long sweeping crescent with three handles on the non-bladed side, and it can detach in the middle for two handed fighting. Lunites are experts in energy manipulation, and can chain the two blades together with a beam of moonlight. The Lunite then grabs one blade by the imbedded handle halfway down one blade, and whirls the other blade around. He then retracts the blade by controling the energy link itself. Lunites can do this because they are highly dexterous, and can avoid the sweeping blade on the return trip.

They could do that, it would be easy. But nun-chucks generally use a chain. does animate rope count with chains? hmmm.

As a freelance hobbyist Flash (well, swish) animator who reads webcomics, I can't say much on the topic of sword chucks, but I can say this:
It's so hard to even ANIMATE the use of sword chucks, so it's amazing that Fighter somehow learns to master the art of sword chuckery. How does he do it?! :p
Kaldar
11-20-2003, 06:20 PM
Transcend, I was saying that the game is only a dream in Link's Awakening, not that the swords only shoot lasers in Link's Awakening =P. Anyway, it's obvious that sword-chucks would in fact work very well if they were Dancing Sword-Chucks. That negates the whole problem with wielding them.
Chicago, FIghter may have "mastered" sword-chucks, but that doesn't mean they're an effective or safe weapon. It just means that he's one of the closest people in the world to knowing how to use them...=D. In otherwords, mastery is subjective.

What if... fighter actually has ESP, and can control the movements of his chuck? I think his stats are probably high enough for him to avoid getting injured using sword chucks.
