Well, since all the current topics are resolved, and IHMN is beginning to bring it up again, new discussion thread.
EDIT: Crap, I was wrong about the Discussion chapter...

krylo just stole my suggestion, about the gas leak... Eventually Dave was going bring that up, probably when they reached the kitchen.
Edit - And nice counting skills FZ.

Durr, tanks! I was quite proud of myself on dat one! *Nods stupidly*
I just forgot the last discussion was 4 and not 5.

Also... I meant the house they're suppose to be investigating. Frankie would like to tell them about the 'creature' before they get killed by it, if at all possible. Although, by them I really mean Henry... because he's the only one that would know to back off hearing a story like that.
Forever Zero

Jospeh is a vet as well so he might get it, but thanks for clarifying, I thought you meant The Mansion when you said "The House". It will take time for you guys to get there though, so you'll need to sit back for a bit as they investigate.

What ever happened to questioning Mr. *insert name here(don't know it)*. Unless of course he's too mentaly unstable.
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 06:21 PM
He's too mentally unstable. If you read the last post that leads to that point, the nurse says that the husband is still in bad condition and you wouldn't get anything coherent/useful out of him anyway.
Krylo

In just BARELY related news... on Cartoon Network tonight, judging by the Justice League I saw last night waiting for Family Guy to start, the Justice League should be fighting Cthulu.
IHateMakingNames
03-31-2004, 06:26 PM
Is that was the thing is called, or are you just saying that because it's a floating head with tentacles?
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 06:27 PM
WTF? Why? Sounds like they're just doing random stuff now... When is Justice League on?
Krylo
03-31-2004, 06:28 PM
I only caught the last five minutes... but I saw the episode a few months ago. There's this story about elder gods, and great old ones being banished, and how that is one of them, blah blah blah. No idea if it's actually called Cthulu... because I can't remember that well... but it's obviously ripping off Cthulu in any case.
Edit: They're fighting him because he's trying to enter the mortal realm and that one irish guy that's a sorceror (can't remember his super hero name... but his super power is magic and he's from ireland) found out about it and tried to stop him... but the JL stupidly stopped his attempt at renewing the seal, yada yada.
And I believe it's on at 9:30 central.
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 06:30 PM
Strange... And of course, they're going to kick his ass. Might be interesting, I'll need to look it up and see when it is on here.
EDIT: Alright. Don't catch as much TV as I used to, but this might be looking into just for curiosity factor.

I've seen it, and remember what happens. Want to know what happens?

Not really, I'll see it tonight. If I miss it, I'll ask.
IHateMakingNames

No one in my team is on...
Edit - Out of curiousity, when David was biting Frankie, did you roll to see if the people shooting at David would accidently hit Frankie? I would think that chances of hitting the guy the zombie is hanging onto while some what insane and paniced would be high.
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 06:49 PM
Dr DR is only on in the mornings/afternoon my time. Basically, when I'm at school.
Dante was on a second ago... And didn't post...
Ecurt will probably be on later.
Should I just say that for some reason, the Investigation team sits there until the Research Team arrives?
Only Frankis shot David when he was biting on. All the other times people shot at him, David was not biting Frankie. Zombies are very slow, and their low dex means they go pretty much last in a combat round. Frankie blow it back with his pistol at point blank range, then everyone shot it, then it went in for another bite. Then JAD's cahr kicked it's head in, finishing it off. I should have made his roll harder, since he was the only one attacking when the Zombie was attacking Frankie.

Just kidding. You are all at the renters house, discussing what the Research Team learned from the crazy couple that used to live at the house.

03-31-2004, 07:26 PM
Oh. A little more detail?
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 07:30 PM
You missed all of yesterday, didn't you...
Well, an old man showed up and asked everyone to investigate his house. His last tenants had gone crazy, and there was a rumor the house was haunted. Dr DR, Ecurt, Dante, and IHMN went to investigate the house. krylo, JADGuy, Spirit, and the others went to the Sanitarium to talk with the crazy couple. They learned a horrible "Thing" was haunting them, and they would see it sometimes. It effected their minds, the husband worse then the wife. Now the team that just learned that went to tell the team at the house this news.

Argh. I have been working ALL day.... And I'll be gone for the weekend.
Having a birthday party
So can Clara just tag along with the others, or maybe she'll meet up with the others late, because she had some sort of commitment she had to keep, having to do with her job... I dunno. ^^;;

Okay, saw last 10 minutes of the JLA episode... And what was that? Hulk wannabe busts into Cthulhu's head and Hawk Chick kills his big, glowing brain with a mace? And Cthlhu is just a big head with a milion tentacles? That was really screwed up... And who made Aquaman useful? He used to be a joke, now he shoots energy beams and has a hook shot?
The coolest part was that I could actually recognize some of the monsters they were fighting when Cthulhu decided the interview was over. I would just need to look up the names.
Overall, odd epsiode that contradicts the Lovecraft Books and the RPG book, but I have no clue about the modern JLA either. And who was Soloman Grundy, the Hulk Wannabe that died killing the big black thing at the end? (That black thing is NOT in the rulebook at all...)
Krylo
03-31-2004, 11:10 PM
Soloman Grundy was a villian. His origins were explained in the episode before... he was a bank robber that ended up dead in a swamp, but rose back to life due to voodoo magic. He's about as strong and resilient as superman... but he can't fly.
As for aquaman... the trident was a magical artifact of atlantis that was used to seal cthulu.
As for the rest of that... yes, very odd... etc. However, it was interesting in that it was JLA vrs. Cthulu.
Forever Zero
03-31-2004, 11:24 PM
Alright, that explains both why he kept saying he was looking for his soul, and where Aquaman got his spiffy monster blasting trident. I don't know, still thought it was odd.
And new avatar krylo?
Krylo
03-31-2004, 11:33 PM
And new avatar krylo?I was wondering how long it'd take for someone to comment as that I hadn't ever changed it before...
The avatar is actually a picture of a girl that looks JUST like me from a few years ago, with her halloween costume on. Part man, part woman. She so much resembles me that when I moved here (again, a few years ago), I showed that picture to some friends from where I used to live and told them it was me... they all bought it.
Or... instead of listening to all that, you could just dig up my picture in one of the picture threads and compare. It's freakish, really... and I just like the picture due to the whole looking like me and wearing the weird girl/man make-up.
I'll probably change back in awhile, as that I only changed because Celes and I were talking about avatars... and I said it'd probably surprise/confuse a few people if I changed it because I never have... then she said I should just to mess with people.
And apparently I'm bored because I'm typing far more than I need to.
Alright, that explains both why he kept saying he was looking for his soul, and where Aquaman got his spiffy monster blasting trident. I don't know, still thought it was odd.It was odd... but still kind of a cool 'cross over' type of thing...
Also, I don't know if you saw it, but Superman and friends were having a good amount of trouble with some of the lesser beings in that hellish place. Just to let people stir on how much chance our non-kryptonian investigators stand.
Forever Zero

I did notice that. Just to add to the despair, any of them I recognize and remember I'll post here so you can know what they faced, and the cahnces you guys will face it...
And I was wondering about your avatar... It definitly caught me off guard...
Krylo
04-01-2004, 01:30 AM

04-01-2004, 08:44 PM
Yeah, it just seems like a slow time for RPs right now.
And Ecurt, when you get on, you didn't find any mentions of something like this.
Truce
04-02-2004, 01:51 AM
Bleh, it's a good thing I didn't say I knew anything about it.
Besides, it's not like I even have a clue of what it's called at all.
PS - For some reason, Krylo's avatar reminded me of a mime. Is that odd?
Dante
04-02-2004, 02:20 AM
Tommy's a midget (SIZ 5, by the way). Not big in any sense of the word, but he's still got an M1A1 Thompson, fully loaded...
Krylo
04-02-2004, 02:21 AM
Oh pah... I forgot that. I'll just attribute it to Frankie wanting to feed him to a monster for being a bitchy little prick when he first got to the mansion. I will remember the small size from now on though, rest assured.
Dante
04-02-2004, 02:27 AM
Yep, first in, first in...
Krylo
04-02-2004, 03:23 AM
I'll bet the thing in the basement is a vampire that's learned spells... betcha betcha. Humanoid... gaunt... only comes out at night... knows spells. Sentient humanoid monster. Vampire seems likely... I could be wrong though.
Edit: Also, FZ... if everyone isn't in the lobby by themselves today, this would be a good time to smack time up about 10 minutes and put them all there. Just saying, because, you were saying you suck at knowing when to do the time warp things.
Dante
04-02-2004, 03:38 AM
Vampires? Better go for the head, then. The beastie can't cast them if he's got no mouth, right?

Why does Ecurt have to tactlessly try to get the girl in every RP?
IHateMakingNames
04-02-2004, 02:57 PM
So, did Henry and Frank just talk about ghost/demons/sorcers infront of all the new people (There are four of us I think)?
And how exactly did Herny hear what Dr. A said to Frankie while on the phone?
Krylo
04-02-2004, 03:03 PM
Henry and Frankie were in a room alone for a bit talking... then they were in a hallway. I'm figuring neither of them noticed Tommy or they wouldn't have been talking about it, and I don't know what Tommy heard.
And... Henry is the one who talked to Armitage, then went back to the room and told Frankie about it.
Squishy Cheeks
04-02-2004, 03:15 PM
My guy would know armitiage since they work in the same place.
Forever Zero
04-02-2004, 03:23 PM
Why does Ecurt have to tactlessly try to get the girl in every RP?
The same reason all the others try it?
And yes, the Frankie and Henry were seperate from the others while they talked, and since Dante failed his listen roll, he heard nothing.
And they might, but Dr. Armitage has been very reclusive for a long time now since he began studying the mythos, so you may have grown apart since then. You guys are the exception since you are all Mythos Hunters.
Krylo
04-02-2004, 05:35 PM
I believe Frankie still has the highest int rating of anyone at 17, right? ...That's why I usually have him throwing out plans, because he's the most intelligent, and I'm sure he'd notice it with his 17 intelligence putting him around the 180 iq area... (I assume... 18 would be 200+).
Dante
04-02-2004, 05:45 PM
You know, with a 17 int rating, wouldn't he just make his excuses and leave and let the others go to their deaths?
IHateMakingNames
04-02-2004, 05:47 PM
That's a fast talk thing, not an INT thing.
Krylo
04-02-2004, 05:47 PM

Send Tommy in first so that while he gets eaten we can run away while still knowing what the thing is and how to kill it.
...I'd say he's going along with it pretty close. He also suggested he go to a library while the rest of you, other than Marcus and Ted go to the house and poke around in the dark.
Edit: He also has high fast-talk though, IHMN... and I think Dante meant 'isn't that what he'd want to do'... get out and let everyone else die.

...I'd say he's going along with it pretty close. He also suggested he go to a library while the rest of you, other than Marcus and Ted go to the house and poke around in the dark.
Yes, but wouldn't be even better to run the hell away after almost becoming a zombie chew toy? Then again, there wouldn't be a game if every right-thinking person did that...
Edit: He also has high fast-talk though, IHMN... and I think Dante meant 'isn't that what he'd want to do'... get out and let everyone else die.
I doubt you need that much fast-talk to say you have some "family business", then run away until the screams stop.
IHateMakingNames
04-02-2004, 06:04 PM
Do you think anyone would believe he suddenly has some random family business not known about/mentioned until just before going into the dangerous place?
No, no they would not.

04-02-2004, 06:12 PM
Or he could simply run the hell away.

04-02-2004, 11:16 PM
Jad - It's fun hitting on people. Besides, all my recent characters are a bit perverted, even more so than I at times.
Mediators (Ripel) do their best when around other people, and its only natural that they constantly seek to further their relationships. The Journalist...well, he's a guy who hadn't exactly been disciplined. Sure, eventually he buckled down and got serious, but he's still a guy.
Anyway Henry hasn't hit on Clara yet; it was more of a joke than anything serious implied. Of course...then again, it would be fun to experiment and see how long it would take for Henry to convince Clara to go out with him over the break.
I'll try that out next time.
Frankie - If he did run away, he'd probably attract the attention of whatever they're facing. If it had been the Lurker and he did that then the uneducated genius would not be found in the hospital after the first mission; part of him would be up in ashes, part of him would be buried in the ground and part of him would be sold/used for scientific purposes.

RP seems to be really slowing down, if it isn't dead yet. Sithdarth's char is gone, just poof, gone. He hasn't posted in like a week, and gave no prior notice. Demon is in, since he told me he would be gone. SS may be out for the same reason of not posting in a few days. J Man may also be out since he hasn't posted in a while. Everyone else knows who they are and are in. I'll post a char update, then I'll post the RP update. Basically, just post whichever location you want to be at.
IHateMakingNames
04-03-2004, 02:50 PM
Sith did give a warning that he was going to be gone back in one of the discussion threads.
And to be fair for SS and J Man, Celes hasn't posted in this RP as long as they haven't (You neglected to mention her, taking favorites, for shame FZ).
Forever Zero
04-03-2004, 03:10 PM
1. Celes left notice that she wouldn't be around, and I missed Sithdarth saying he wouldn't be. SS and J Man have said nothing.
2. RP is on indefinite hold until I get my damn useless hunk of scrap, also known as my laptop, working again. I do 99% of what I do on my laptop, and I'm having to use an alternate conputer until I figure out how to fix the piece of shit. All the data is on the laptop, thus I have nothing. I also won't be posting much until I get my laptop back online, because this computer is garbage.
Krylo
04-03-2004, 04:32 PM
1) Hurry up and fix it.
2) I haven't seen SS post anywhere for quite awhile. He must not be able to get on or someting.
3) It's not dead... although I think our numbers have slimmed. Might give them (SS and J Man) a few more days then feed their characters to the vampire or whatever is down there. Also might want to mention something about Alan having family business and having to leave, unless Sith said when he'd be back and it's soon.
4) Frankie is going to the library to try and find out when the 'hauntings' started, and who the last person was to live in the house without that. Unless someone else decides to go to the library (that has the library use skill)... then he's going to the house. Figure only one person really needs to go to the library.

Alright, I have a VERY temperory fix going on right now, but I still won't be on long. Basically, in between typing one letter and the next, my laptop keyboard crapped out on me and died. I found my self unable to do anything involving the keyboard. I quite literally almost snapped my laptop in half in anger and frustration. Luckily, I found an old, bad keyboard, and while it sucks, it's better then nothing. Good News: I can type again, and I have access to all the Call files and my PDF Rulebooks. Bad News: To type, I need to unplug my good mouse, and use the little touchpad mouse built into the keyboard. This thing is so jumpy, that if I press too hard the mouse goes nuts, and if I even sneeze funny, I end up closing everything in sight. Basically, until I can get a keyboard that doesn't need to pluged in through the mouse port, I'm screwed. I will try to get an update up tonight that will leave it open for anyone to be anywhere, but we need some people at the house and some at the library unless you all decide to wait for more info. I won't be updating too much more this weekend until I get this worked out, but I will be around and pop in to do anything critical that pops up. Just know that it will take longer then usual.

I vote all characters who are not going to the house because the players themselves know what could possibly happen while the characters themselves have no reason to go anywhere else should be forced into the house.

All I can say is, if you have no educated skills to add, don't go to the research location. A couple of you are very combat oriented characters. so you wouldn't go to a library. Expect some GM *Poof Transporting* if you try it...

Well, my only point was that posting is a bit slow, and when someone finally did post, you post basically had next to no action in it.
And you guy wouldn't be drawing his gun at this point. He may have a bad feeling, but he knows nothing about the mythos, thus he would have no cause for this sort of aggression.

Also: FZ, what year/month in 1920 is this? I'm just wondering because I know that we pass full months in between investigations... and it'd be nice to keep track of the date... in case something useful is invented one of these years.

Well, just as a random time, it is... October, 1928. Since roughly one month passes between investigations, the specific day/week isn't important. Month will also be important later once you start casting spells.

Its worth the price. And it could be logical seeing that nobod really knows if Rasputin died since they never found the body... I mean he was poisoned (according to legend he was one hell of a drinker and he liked te poisoned beverage so much he wanted more...) Shot,Stabbed, hung and finally drowned.
Forever Zero
04-04-2004, 09:19 PM
Actually they did. They found the body later, and an autopsy revealed he didn't die of being shot, stabbed, hung, or poisoned... He suffocated from being underwater and being unable to breathe. He was one hard man to kill...

Oh yeah, and I forgot he was clubbed unconscious... twice... He was just insane. I don't know how anyone could take all that and live.
If I remember correctly, he was a bad influence, so they tried to poison him during a meeting with him. That didn't work, so someone came in and shot him. When they checked the body, he ran, so they chased him and clubbed him unconscious, and stabbed him. When they were trying to decide what to do, he revived and actually ran outside before he was clubbed unconscious again. Then they decided to throw him in the river, thinking he was dead, so they did. They threw him in a river, in Russia, I think during the winter, meaning he was in possible sub-zero temperatures. And he died only because he couldn't get air under the ice! That's just not natural man...

Alright I am going to teach you all how to do the mythical 8th impression technique of the rising sun! *Dramatic Lens Flare* The Cold Reading! For free!
Alright for this all you need is at least one person that you somewhat know(Prefreably a little gulliable), sunglassess, time and most importantly a place to sit down for the other person ( a table is optional). Now first and for most do not take of the sunglassess. You must observe the person like a hawk without them noticing! Next after they sit down first do this talk to the person and tell them simple stuff like " You are a very astute person who has a few very close friends but when they find new ones they push them out." generally stuff you have observed from them. Now eventually they are going to move either there hands or their arms. Keep telling this while you notice what they do. Every person has signals that say when they are going to move. You just have to notice them. As soon as one of these signals is Identified tell them smething like " you are going to move your arm." or " If I am boring you, you don't have to move your arms around I'll stop." Then if they stop they will know that they wanted to move the arm, but didn't either way the person will think that its amazing. After that the person will probably believe whatever bullshit you say.

I don't see why not actually. The book does talk about religions being able to counter the Mythos in some minor ways, but only Mythos magic works on the big stuff. But I think that would work here.
Squishy Cheeks
04-04-2004, 11:57 PM
I mean it's really a situation of my god can beat up your god. The Big Mythos boys are powerful but I think Iehova could take them one on one. But you got to think about. The big G is busy with a lot of followers., so at best your going to get a Seraphim, or Sephiroth of the Right Hand on your side. At worst you get an angel. Against a minor Mythos creature That would still be fairly effective.
Forever Zero
04-05-2004, 12:01 AM
True, but their aren't any rules for summoning Angels or Archangels into a scene. I don't know what would be needed to summon an Angel, or any of the Etheral servants of God, or what sorts of stats they would have on a one for one basis. However, short of a powerful Great Old One, an Angel could beat just about anything the Mythos could throw at it I believe, but I don't think it's as easy as just asking God to send an Angel to smite his foes. However, now I am intrigued to look and see if there are any allowances for this in some sort of side book...
IHateMakingNames

In theory it's possible. I won't allow anything that mighty unless the rules allow it though, I'm saying that there is potential for it. Right now, he is just sticking with a simple anti-enchant to remove the enchantment on the Symbol. However, trying that on something with a powerful enchantment probably wouldn't work. There is actually one spell that a Catholic Priest would/could have, I just need to look it up and decide where he could learn it.

Now the feather is "The sacred feather of Mu" which as just a made up race that was tossed around by occultist in the 1880s that was started by supposedly alister crowley. I think we should take an example of the The Scooby Doo Postulate whenever the party splits up something bad will almost always happen to at least one of the parties.Especially if its night.
So I say we to the house but try to stay safe in all circumstances oh wait its night. Then one of our groups is fucked.

You know... Frankie tells you guys that he'll meet you at the church... so you all just go steal a book and then run like hell? You're horrible friends. HORRIBLE!
Also, it's still noonish for the house team... it's only night for Frankie and you guys.

At least there won't be any books made out of baby skin. With The Eye of a baby seal on the cover for decoration.

I should just finish exploring the house or leave. I'm thinking more about leaving, but FZ would probably send a monster to kill me at the mansion, seeing as how he wants almost the whole place explored.
Note: This house is starting to make me really paranoid and I just want everything done. Prefferably not by me or at least with someone following me.

If no one goes upstairs with lazy willingly, I say you mark everyone in the house group with a number, roll a die, and whichever person the die lands on you force into the basement, FZ.

I like that idea, and my die system does allow for a 4 sided die...

FZ, he was asking Marcus if he had anything to carry them in... because Frankie stopped taking his backpack everywhere since he has the mansion now... and he wasn't expecting to go exploring a church where he might find stuff he'd need to bring back. If Marcus doesn't, he'll just take off his coat, put them all inside, and tie it up to carry them to the mansion.
Forever Zero
04-05-2004, 06:33 PM
I know you were asking Marcus, but in case you expected me to reveal to one of you any items that might help. You are most likely going to have to go with the jacket idea, although you might have a box in the car to use, it is pretty far away...

House Team: Go to a hardware store, buy some fuses, go back to the house, fix the fuse box, and then there will be power in the basement.
Why do I have to think of everything?

No, it is probably about 1:00 PM by now for you, and the investigators are at the house.
EDIT: You know that without trying, I have set up tension in the air about what will happen next. The expectation of horror can be just as horrible as the horror itself....
EDIT 2: Probably has to do with your high INT score...

They're pretty rare... but maybe if you give the specs to frankie... he could use his physics and chemistry knowledge to develop a makeshift one over one of the mission breaks, probably...
Just need to mix styrofoam with gasoline for the 'napalm', then develop a delivery/lighting system.

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would be messy though, and have a decent failure rate that would be a disaster if it failed since you couldn't make one as efficently as a full fledged factory could, and it would take a whole new skill to wield it and certain stats (Not just any weakling could heft that massive tank around), but it could be possible, and devestating against some enemies...
Wasn't 1928 a bit early for styrofoam?

I'm not sure... but there are other chemicals he could use. Mix Acetone and gasoline for instance. A flammable liquid and an oxidating agent = bad shit.
And I figure everyone could spend the first week between missions studying a certain skill (like Dante could do welding or whatever, because he's the strong one, and Frankie could buff up his chemistry... reading up on actual flame throwers [for a bonus to the roll to mixing the right chemicals for that in particular], etc. etc.), then they'd spend the next two weeks actually building it.

He doesn't remember much. It was a passing reference in an occult book. They were a small tribe in Africa, that believed some sort of aquatic diety would rise up one day and smash the world in two. It was huge, and mostly seemed squidlike in appearance. The natives called it Thu Thu, and, in their tounge, The One Who Waits in the Darkness...

I really, really wanted to post this.
"Paul."
Paul didn't respond.
"Hey, Paul."
Still nothing. Now Tommy was getting spooked. He walked up to the man, and slapped him on the back.
"Hey, you-"
He was cut off short as Paul keeled over, hitting the floor with a great thump and raising a huge cloud of dust. Tommy went over to him and placed two fingers on his neck. His face turned pale, and he drew back, horrified.
"OH MY GOD! THEY KILLED PAUL! YOU BASTARDS!"
