If I wasn't lazy, I would of linked the 2nd episode last week. (http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25c39219c7c4b60119c8f85cc1001d) :(

Still, this episode sums up the situation for the most part: Thought-to-be-dead-prince gets funky eye-based mind taking powers, and starts working on doing anything necessary to bring down Britannia, who are pretty much an imperial British empire with more mechs and firepower that you can shake a stick at.

I'm already enjoying this series, and hopefully you will too.

SHAMELESS PLUGGING FOR THE LOSE!! (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=780492&postcount=8)

Code Geass is the stupidest thing I've ever watched. The mechas do things that would fit more in something like Mazinger Z (YO-YO ICE SKATING ATTACK!), the two main characters are fucking arseholes while all the supporting cast behaves stupidly (HEY ZERO ABANDONED US BEFORE BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER ZERO HAVE MY BABIES!!), the plot relies far too much on coincidences, the designs are the worst CLAMP has ever drawn, and the second season follows the same structure as the first one so far.

I watch it for the lulz, to be sincere. It's a hilarious anime (Yes, my lordo!).

So yeah, be warned of corny script-writing, downright non-sensical characters and shit coming out of the writers' arses. You'll love it.

Been following this since it first aired.

Campy, sometimes poorly written, but always a trip. It's like heroin, and I'm always craving my next fix.

Come Monday, episode 6 of R2. Can't wait.

I should say there's one area in which Code Geass R2 hasn't disappointed. Episode 05 was full of quality moments:

That episode had the most fanservice out of the entire series. It also has this:

C.C. does not have to deign to fanservice. She's fine just as she is.

They're an imperial US empire. Look at the map in the beginning of every episode. It's clearly the US, since Britannia doesn't even include Great Britain.

Anyone else notive that in all these future set anime America is always an empire?

Only because Napoleon conquered the British Isles back in the early, early 1800s. The American Revolution didn't go so well, so the royalty went over there.

It really is a British empire, just temporarily displaced.

Aerozord, unfortunately, you guys were just a rebellious colony that failed. No malignancy there, just incompetence (I kid, I kid ;))

Anorexia!

Also known as CLAMP style ...?

Oh, hey! Maybe now when talking to someone about anorexia, I can be all "Oh, hey so, I heard your sister is doing it clamp style?"

I'm really confused about all the bad-mouthing of this series I have heard so far. I mean, the fan-service is pretty over the top, but just becuase it has its that and the 'fun school-time' moments every now and then... Is it so bad? I have watched every episode so far... and I am really impressed. I like the characters, the story, the action... The animation is amazing. The only problem I have is that there is maybe some lifting from 'V for Vendetta'.

Don't get me wrong, I love it to pieces. However, when you distil it down, it's basically Gundam + better characters, more realistic (more != realistic) mechs, and a delicious anti-hero. Highbrow it is not. Fun, enjoyable, and, well, fun.

Not that much difference from the present I see.

Except for all the discrimination. But militarily and politically? Totally an empire.

Burn (to myself).

When did I say it was bad? If anything, I've repeated myself many times in saying I enjoy it a lot. That doesn't, however, mask the fact that the writing is atrocious and that the whole work screams of overtly prententious. The main characters are downright unlikable unless you seriously enjoy watching manipulative jerks fucking bend everyone around themselves for their own purpose while serving as hypocritical pieces of shit (Lelouch is a jerk; Suzaku is the jerkest). It's just plot twist after plot twist that screws your balls so much you cannnot stop watching it.

As for the action... well, the action is okay. I guess I became spoiled in that stance by Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It's nothing you haven't seen in any of the Gundams.

Edit: Also, the fucking resolution to the end of season cliffhanger. That was the biggest twist of balls I've ever watched (SUZAKU SPINNING KICK SAVES THE DAY, MY LORDO!!).

Maybe I'm just obsessive, but it seems to me that this show parallels Death Note all over the place. From what I've seen so far, instead of a notebook it's just eyes, instead of criminals it's British people, and instead of shinigami it's fanservice. His first use of the power was causing the victims' deaths; he has to see their face; it can only be used once on a person. And then there's this whole "as soon as I confirm your identity, I'm going to do something nebulously nefarious" dynamic.

Stuff like this only feeds my suspicions:

This, plus the overall aloof weirdness of the show, makes it very hard to take seriously. But apparently that's appropriate...?

Suzaku's apparent newtype status, without any explanation, is my most annoying writing flaw in the series. He's also my most disliked character, if only for what he set up at the end of episode 5 (R2).

IMO, Code Geass is Death Note done right.... with mechas (at least, CG hasn't degenerated into DN's "Hah! I foresaw that you'd do this and did this!" "Well I knew you'd do that so I did this" "You fell right into my hands! I was really planning to do this!" *an hour or so of this continues* "NO WAI" 'WAI").

Anyways about it being so stupid you can't take it seriously I dunno. I think it had it serious moments, like the first Mao encounter and last few eps (Euphie!!!! :-().

Oh yeah and whar teh fuck is Lloyd?! I needs mah high-pitched, squeaky eccentric scientist NAO!!!

I bolded the spoiler portion as well, but you probably can't tell that until you highlight it.

Still.

Bolded.

yeah, I'm kinda hoping that kallen pushes Lelouch about that and he snaps. not only would it be a nice bonding moment, but the breakdown and subsequent self-reconstruction would further my theory that Lelouch and Suzaku are going to have effectively switched moral standpoints by the end of the series.

The fact that it takes itself so seriously is what makes it all funny!

But yeah, that spoiler was a bit sad. However, it still felt very contrived. I realise it was supposed to be a mistake on Lelouch's part, but that "what if I told you to kill all Japanese" felt way out of place. As much as Lelouch had acted as a jerk he had never seem the type to say that kind of things when joking. The whole setup was stupid and unbelievable for the wrong reasons.

But hey, at least the event cemented my feelings for Suzaku.

The pictures look amazing, but I'd just like to know what the overall story is. If it isnt too much trouble and as long as it doesnt break any laws or rules.

Britannian Empire conquers Japan and renames it Area 11. Japanese people are then discriminated, from being called elevens and being treated unfairly.

The first of the main characters is Lelouch Lamperouge, a dick former prince of the Britannian Empire who now takes on the persona of Zero, the leader of the Japanese rebellion against the occupying forces or Area 11, in order to take revenge because of his mother's death many years ago, as well as to make the world a better place for his little sister, Nunally. He obtains a power called "Geass" from a girl called C.C. after being nearly killed by the Britannian forces. The "Geass" grants him the ability to control the mind of a person like a puppeteer. However, this power only works when looking straight to the eye of the victim and only once per person, so he has to strategically use it for its maximum output.

The other main character is Suzaku Kururugi, a bigger dick Japanese who was the son of the last Prime Minister of Japan and a friend of Lelouch during their childhood. He is now working for the Britannian Empire, slowly going up the ranks of its military while maintaining the position that killing is bad and that all the Japanese should just comply with the enemy because of all the genocide. Never mind the fact that he's obliterating hundreds of people too; he's following the rules so he must be right!

Plus lots of mecha fights, high school drama (which isn't bad), and plot twists every single episode. It's a really political driven story, which may explain why I haven't given up on the series. I'm a sucker for those.
