So, when the hell are the episodes that are on it, that haven't aired yet, going to air?
I'm guessing they'll be doing 2 2-parter 'movies'. 11+12 possibly on the 18 (already leaked online) and 13+14 the following week (MIA).
Spoilerish
There's also a book (http://www.amazon.com/Sozins-Comet-Final-Battle-Avatar/dp/1416958274/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207842801&sr=8-3) about the finale of the series. It's coming out on May 20! It looks like it's aimed at a young reading level, so who knows.
Sorry if that was information that was already going to be covered in what will follow.

From my whole big ass sources:
Avatar will officially end in May. The last four episodes will be shown in the same day on a special. Yes, episodes 18, 19, 20 and 21, all in a row. Amazing, huh? And that'll be in the last week of may, thus, starting in the last week of April, the US will start getting one episode per week. I think that's a big enough infodump to revive the Avatar threads.

More like the dumbest thing ever. They should have shown those episodes during these last few months, not dumping them at the end of the season like an afterthought.
Does anyone know why the fuck did we have this unnanounced hiatus?

Didn't they release 10-11 The Day of Black Sun episodes already in the U.S.? And after checking with Wikipedia, 13 has been released in some capacity online, while we're still waiting on 14 and beyond.
I really hope they step up their shit for the last leg of this, what should have been the best, season. I'm kind of hopeful, because there aren't many more plots from the first season they can pass off as new.

While it might sound appealing, I'm reminded that that's how Arrested Development was put down. Generally it means that the studio wants to be done with the series as soon as possible. Of course, it might just be a four-part, two-hour series finale, so that's the optimistic outlook I'll take up.

Got my numbering mixed up. The Volume 3 DVD will have *episode title spoilers*
Episode 11: Day of Black Sun Part II: The Eclipse
Ep 12: The Western Air Temple
Ep 13: The Firebending Masters
Ep 14: The Boiling Rock Part I
Ep 15: The Boiling Rock Part II
And since, in the US anyway, 4 of those haven't aired yet, I was trying to figure out if they would air before they were sold on the DVD. Which won't be the case, according to Ryong.

I think the season is shaping up pretty great so far actually. But I don't think they are trying to pass off old plots as new or whatever.
And yes, this is the last season of the original plot that the creators had in mind from the beginning. However, they (and others) have made comments that led me to believe that they will continue to use the Avatar world and themes in other ways. How that will turn out is anyone's guess.

Sokka: Katara, I don't think we can afford to spend a lot of time helping these people escape the oppression of the Fire Nation.
Katara: Yeah, that makes sense, except, I'm gonna go off and help them anyway. Oh, and I'm gonna make you guys help.
Quick, without checking, does that describe either (A) The Painted Lady or (B) Imprisoned?
Even then, The Painted Lady's only true offense is that is takes up a valuable third-season episode spot to do a storyline we've already seen before. "Sokka's Master", on the other hand, is just a re-doing of "The Warriors of Kyoshi", except that after that it goes on to shit all over the original episode, along with much of the character building that came before it. I know that there was a great big nerdgasm over "OMG Sokka roxzorz teh sword", but I think it was just a huge waste. Sokka was already a formidable warrior with his bitchin' club-and-rang skills, and yet it takes an old guy and a sword to really solidify that he's of use to the team? Besides the pretty sword, the only thing of actual continuity obtained from that episode was the Pai-Sho piece...whoop-de-doo.
But that might be the bitching of a fan who's been cock-blocked from new episodes for so long he's watched what's been given one too many times.

The final DVD:
http://www.avatarspiritmedia.net/images/dvds/Book3FireVolume4.jpg
Summary for the final DVD, some spoilers for the last eps:
The kids return to the Fire Nation and prepare for their final confrontation with Firelord Ozai, but they discover that the Firelord has plans of his own: he has ordained himself Phoenix Lord and appointed Princess Azula as the next Firelord. In the spectacular 4-part finale of Avatar Book 3: Fire, Aang fulfills his destiny as Avatar and confronts the Firelord in the greatest battle of the series.
The final DVD will be released on July 29. The next to last DVD is still set for May 6th, so either they will start airing the eps before the end of the month, or the DVD will get pushed back. Damn, Nickelodeon is a mess.

Except there are notable differences.
Imprisoned major setting was about... a prison. The Painted Lady major setting was about a river town.
Imprisoned featured a new character, Haru. The Painted Lady was more about the groups dynamics.
Imprisoned ended in a major battle. The Painted Lady ended in smoke and mirrors.
Yes, they have the similar theme of Katara helping people. Buuuut, that's because that is part of who she is. If they didn't bring it up again, THAT would be an odd occurence.

I totally loved the part where Sokka started mackin' on Fat the servent. Yeah. And when Zuko attacked Piando's esate was epic. Okay, so they weren't as alike as all that. The only real connection is that we can see Sokka has learned humilty by now as opposed to showing up and being cocky.
Sokka was a skilled warrior, that is true. But does that mean he shouldn't improve? He WAS of use to the team before, but now he has another couple of skills. Including forging. And an admittedly somewhat gimmicky piece of equipment for Toph.
But that might be the bitching of a fan who's been cock-blocked from new episodes for so long he's watched what's been given one too many times.
And yet, the more I re-watch, the more I grow to appreciate. But then again, I'm a fanatic.

I enjoyed Sokka's Master.
Season 3's major offense though, I think is dropping the ball with Zuko. The reason he had to join Azula at the end of CoD was so he could reach the decision to help Aang on his own, not because "lolz my uncle told me to."
So I was looking forward to some really great character development for Zuko in S3, and instead was presented with a poorly done romantic subplot and minimal character development outside of "rawr i am confuuuuuzed!!!"
Still a very strong season.

At the Avatar panel at the New York Comic Con, the trailer for the conclusion to book 3 revealed that all new episodes will return to the air in July 2008, including the four-part series finale. The next DVD will still be released on May 6, 2008, and will include episodes that have not aired in the United States yet.
Fucking July?!!!! (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=23154)
WTF?! DVD before TV? Can Nickelodeon fuck this up anymore than it has?
A little clip to tide you over, maybe? (http://www.livevideo.com/video/71EB9790CB5D42A78A650F01402ADA4B/avatar.aspx) Though totally silly fluff and half-drowned out by squealing fans, it has a spoiler in there: namely that it seems Suki's joined the gang.
Also they made a new trailer. (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vNVJJ0X7em4)

So, approximately 10 weeks or so until they air ANYTHING?
*head explodes*
Well, May 6 is only 2 weeks away at least. It's not like I haven't picked up the other two yet. (Better mini-comic than the one for second season as well.) But here's a question: They've said that season 3 will be 21 episodes... I believe (http://www.avatarspiritmedia.net/news_archive.php?month=11&year=2007). Consequently, we have confirmed with Nickelodeon that season three of Avatar will have 21 episodes, rather than the 20 episodes that seasons one and two had.
If so, which disc will have the 'extra' episode? Because if you check the runtime lengths of volumes 2 and 3 at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Book-Fire/dp/B000WQWPSC/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1208785254&sr=8-2), they both fall in the range of 125 minutes. So does the final volume DVD as reported here. (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Avatar-Airbender-Season-3-Volume-4/9384) What the fuck's going on?
But I'm really jazzed about what's going to go down.

Nope. Also, thanks to some bastard at the NYC Convention ( currently showing parts of new episodes and stuff ), Zutara shipping has been made into canon. It's not. The guy's spreading a rumor that he saw a part of a new episode where Aang tries to kiss Katara but she pushes him away and runs to Zuko's arms then kisses him. It's been confirmed as false because he's the only guy who has said anything about that, but every single Zutara shipper is saying that it is real.

And Lex Luthor aka Mr. Krabs aka the MOTHERFUCKIN' KURGAN aka Clancy Brown is Long Feng. Who I hope we see again, if only briefly.
Both my excitement meter and annoyance meter are pretty high right now. I'm definitely going to buy the DVD rather than wait. (Than again, I would have done that anyway...) But July 14? Which, for the record, is a Monday? Which means they are obviously going to jam-pack that week(s?) with Avatar. I'm not sure this is the best idea, but at least now we know. 81 days...
And the whole shipping thing is really getting out of control. Not that it was ever in control, per se.

Eh, it's futile to try and sway the indeals of a certain shipping fanbase. I wouldn't know in the case of Avatar, as I don't ship them (silly!) but I imagine most of them do it for the amusing factor and will point at any little evidence they can find to support them, just for fun.
Although I have to say, of any series, the Avatar shippers seem rather brutal sometimes.
I support the Momappazukataangsophsuki shipping... I made it up myself. =D
Also, I have a question for you other Avatar fans. I'm in search of a certain scene but I can't find it. If I remember right, Sokka was complaining about Appa not flying and Aang told him to fly everyone around, and Sokka's like, "alright, climb aboard." If anyone remembers what episode number or title (or what was happening elsewhere in the episode) that would be helpful.
The Sokka portion of this gif is from it:

God that took awhile to find.
I've got mixed feelings on these episodes. It might just be me, but when you get a 5 4-way facedown on top of a moving gondola I kind of expect the fight to be more...fun? I mean, usually an Azula fight has more pizazz than Azula and Zuko standing right in front of each other and trading deflections. Of course, the Suki v. Ty Lee face off was even worse, since Suki had just showed off how badass she was, and then the two had a pretty dull slapfight (dull compared to how spectacular they've both been in the past).
However, Suki's badassry needs to be mentioned again. They needed a way to show that she could stand toe-to-toe with Ty Lee (arguably the best non-bending warrior on the show) and they proved it with flying colors. Fuck Piandao, I still claim that Suki taught Sokka everything he needed to know about fighting.
Kudos also to Mai, both for showing what a dress with a limitless supply of knives is capable of, and staring down a lightning strike without flinching. Here's hoping her and Ty Lee have a spot with the good guys for the final showdown.
"Forget about controlling my anger, let's riot!" was a great set piece.
The Fire Nation's torture methods? Downright laughable.
Seriously, after seeing how creepy the writers could be with just a simple candle, the 'toughest prison in the evilest' nation utilizing tactics I 'tortured' my brother with during childhood was kind of bizarre.
So I was hopeful that the final string of episodes would be a return to the Season 2 form of a continuous, non-Adventure Town format, but then I checked Wikipedia and saw -
57 "The Ember Island Players" TBA 317
The group attend a play that serves as a parody and summary of the series to date.
So I guess we're getting 21 episodes this season because the writers felt we needed a recap episode?

So I guess we're getting 21 episodes this season because the writers felt we needed a recap episode?
Well, it looks like it'll be a very entertaining and well-written recap episode, if that makes you feel any better.
It might just be me, but when you get a 5 4-way facedown on top of a moving gondola I kind of expect the fight to be more...fun? I mean, usually an Azula fight has more pizazz than Azula and Zuko standing right in front of each other and trading deflections.
Well, it seemed to me that the point of that scene wasn't so much a badass showdown between Azula and Zuko as it was a showcase of how well Zuko and Sokka have come to work with one another. Zuko was essentially playing defense, nullifying Azula's firebending and using his own to keep her off guard while Sokka would move in to attack her. Their tandem assault was shown to be extremely effective against Azula, who is pretty much as overpowered as anyone in the show can get without an Avatar state.
And I should note that she's more than capable of taking down someone in an Avatar state, as well, so to show these two guys joining forces and actually fighting her effectively is a huge deal.
Of course, the Suki v. Ty Lee face off was even worse, since Suki had just showed off how badass she was, and then the two had a pretty dull slapfight (dull compared to how spectacular they've both been in the past).
I might be willing to give you that, though I feel that a lot of it had to do with time constraints in the scene itself, and since the Suki/Ty Lee fight wasn't really the centerpiece of the action at that moment, I'm willing to let it slide.
Seriously, after seeing how creepy the writers could be with just a simple candle, the 'toughest prison in the evilest' nation utilizing tactics I 'tortured' my brother with during childhood was kind of bizarre.
Well, the difference between those two instances is that, in the first with the Dai Li, they were really trying to drive home how chillingly sinister Ba Sing Se was beneath its squeaky-clean surface. In the scene with the prison, however, they were simply doing a bit for the sake of comedy, since the audience is already well aware of how the Fire Nation usually behaves.
Also, it should be noted that the Fire Nation itself nor the bulk of its citizenry and military personnel aren't evil, while the Dai Li totally is. It's no surprise that the latter's methods are scarier than the former's.

One thing kinda bothered me in those couple episodes.
Sokka goes looking for his dad, and then he runs into Suki and he's kind of like 'oh yeah, her!' It would have been nice if they'd indicate some kind of actual concern about where she was on Sokka's part prior to that, especially after that whole previous thing with Azula taunting him about her whereabouts.

I guess my problem with the fight was how awkwardly stilted it was, especially compared to firebender v. firebender fights of the past. It reminded me a lot of an RPG fight, where each side seemed to wait their turn before doing anything. And I think you're giving Sokka too much credit, or maybe I'm just not as dazzled by two sword swipes, especially since the second was more a feeble "I've got a sword pointed at you, now excuse me while Zuko shoots two more ineffective fireballs at you!"
Also, it should be noted that the Fire Nation itself nor the bulk of its citizenry and military personnel aren't evil, while the Dai Li totally is. It's no surprise that the latter's methods are scarier than the former's.
From the rampant fire whips and how much exposition was spent to drive home the fact that the warden was reeheaaly dedicated to preventing breakouts, I don't think the "Most FN individuals aren't so bad" mindset was in place on the 'Toughest FN Prison'.
Should Boiling Rock's torture methods have been as extreme? Maybe not, but the candle wasn't extreme in the sense that it was a candle, but in what it implied. Maybe it was meant to be humorous and I'm over thinking it, but it just seemed like they were forced to go with the 'kiddiest' form of interrogation they could.

Hey, let's make the prisoners' blood go to their heads! That will surely teach them a lesson!

Anyone else noticed a gigantic amount of face-into-ground slamming in those two episodes? Seriously. Especially Zuko. Should this be spoilered? Also, 'bout rocket Azula? Why the heck don't they have firebender-powered airplanes yet? Geez.
