Alright, not as many problems as I thought.

When I make the next RP thread, I will have 1 Chem check ready for Sithdarth, I will have SS and Jad's chars meet up with Mr. Head Librarian to talk about the book, and I will have Demon go the the Widows house for a talk.

And also, the idea put forward by Lazy, discuss here, and/or in the RP when it comes back, who wants to check out the basement box?

Note: The title should have a "Here" instead of a "He", but I hit the title limit apparently.

Krylo
03-24-2004, 10:14 PM
I vote we all check the box while lazy checks the attic.

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 10:16 PM
It takes at least two people to check the attic. The door is too high up to reach without a ladder or unless you stand on someone else's back.

EDIT: And there isn't a ladder...

lazy man
03-24-2004, 10:18 PM
Or we could get a couple people to carry the basement box up to the first floor.

Krylo
03-24-2004, 10:18 PM
Ok... I vote we all go down stairs, other than one guy who boosts lazy into the attic, and then runs into the basement with the rest of us.

Actually... I don't care if it's lazy... of ecurt... or sith... or IHMN... or spirit... I just wanna see someone get eaten. Someone who's not me.

Sithdarth
03-24-2004, 10:18 PM
I feel like killing myself I'll help with the attic.

Edit: I'll at least boost him up.

So what does William know is going on?

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 10:54 PM
William know about everything that happened yesterday, but nothing from today so far. When I post, he will get an update. He and Neil are trying to get access to the Restricted Books List. It will be explained in a bit.

Oh, and guess who got a 90 on there Luck roll to see who goes in the basement first (Not the attic)! That's right krylo, your up! Post will be up soon.

Krylo
03-24-2004, 10:57 PM
Just so long as it's not the attic where that thing was thumping around in the journal.

Also... I wonder how many times you had to roll to get that, Mr. I'm-going-to-fake-rolls-to-get-you-killed-you-tentacle-demon-freak.

Not to say I wouldn't deserve it at this point, or anything...

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 11:11 PM
Meh, you're to worried about conspiracy theories, there are no black helicopters on the way to your house right now to take you to a re-education camp to unfailingly agree with everything the GM tells you...

Actually, I got it on my first try. And the warning was more to just freak you out then anything else.

J Man
03-24-2004, 11:18 PM
An old hobo?

lazy man
03-24-2004, 11:19 PM
FZ made it look like a hobo was there when we first entered.

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 11:24 PM
First in response to Celes, everyone has been having trouble with the site today.

Second, about the box, who here doesn't love a good red herring! I know I do!

Third, the hobo had been scared off last night by the monster, after you all left. He had returned to pick up his things, but then all of you arrived. He fled to the basement, and when you went down, he wanted to escape and fought his way through. The hobo is gone now, a plot opportunity missed...

EDIT: That box just made your night, didn't it IHMN?

Krylo
03-24-2004, 11:30 PM
I was pretty sure the box would be empty, really... you passed it off too casually the night before for it to really be important.

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 11:34 PM
When I mention something important, it usually gets a little description. You are a really through band of investigators at least...

And now J Man has started the War of the Attic, which unsuspecting fool goes up to check it? You know this could just be another red herring, or it could be vital...

J Man
03-24-2004, 11:45 PM
This HAS to be important, man. Let's pick straws. *rolls luck roll* *gets a 1* DAMN!!! I mean, my roll was DAMNed good! Therefore, someone else goes into the attic.

Krylo
03-24-2004, 11:45 PM
Or it COULD be fatal.

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 11:47 PM
Want me to "Draw Straws" and go with another luck roll, or do you think it can be handled?

The only people that can't go are JAD, SS, Demon, and Dante (He is joining in on the next mission).

J Man
03-24-2004, 11:52 PM
Looks like it's handled. Sweet, I'm not gonna die!

Krylo
03-24-2004, 11:56 PM
Can I shoot the trap door instead of letting someone with a higher strength go? I wanna shoot something...

Edit: I can see it now: Frankie unloads his clip into the trapdoor and a large creature can be heard flailing about in pain and anger. He steps down and glances about. "Uh... Let's not go up there, on second thought."

Forever Zero
03-24-2004, 11:58 PM
It won't help. You don't need to break a lock or anything, it is just old and hasn't been opened in decades, so it's stuck. If you want, you can shoot it anyway however.

Demon with a Glass Hand

The .. things ... I had to ... do ... took slightly less than I thought.

CelesJessa
03-25-2004, 12:54 AM
Poor poor IHMN...

If it's any condolences (sp?), My character lost 8 sanity points because of you.

And now I suggest, what Clara will probably be suggesting soon, if somebody else doesn't before I can get the website working fast enough: "We should get the hell out of that house."

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 12:57 AM
I am just wondering what type of insanity FZ what me to have cause i dont feel much like deciding at this point.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 01:00 AM
Of all the characters, I thought IHMN's 'Agent Scully' character would survive till the end.

It's a shame. He was rough around the edges but, and the monster will agree with me, he had a good heart.

Zing!

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:05 AM
Sith: Go homicidal... steal frankie's gun and shoot everyone. Muahaha. Err... I mean... you might wanna go with panic and run away like a sissy girl. I'm not sure whether that thing can get out of the attic now that the way's been opened up... so, picking my type of insanity might just get your character to be second on the beast's meal plan.

Demon: ...You're a bad bad man.

Also... stupid forum acting up today almost ate this, but I was smart and copied it.

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:07 AM
I dont know what happend but i just got all my speed back I can post normal like for now.

As for the insanity I think I'm about to start screaming and running for the cars.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:08 AM
Sith, I rolled up a Faint/ Screaming Fit. go with one of those.

Demon is indeed a very bad man. I think Karma should be included in the RP...

Celes,I don;t know how, but you lost some san earlier. You only lost 4 this time.

krylo, in response to your question in the RP, you lost 5 permenant sanity, but it doesn't lower you current sanity, only your permenant. Now bad events have to happen to lower it back below, and when it restores it can only go back up to the new max.

And the beast won't come down. Even though the door is open, the ward is still there.

EDIT: In some good news tonight, it seems the website is back to normal at least.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:12 AM
You mean HE did. I still have my normal max sanity. Silly. And yes, that answers my question... and I think once Frankie regains his sanity he's going to point out that once they leave the house, and the wards, that thing has open season on them.

Edit: Ok... Alan isn't living that one down until a mythos creature eats him.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 01:16 AM
And to think ... with blind, stupid luck I survived both 'The Creature' and a rabid hobo.

See, people. I told you that weapon skills wouldn't save you in the end. This isn't a combat game.

Apparently it's a game of blind, stinking luck. Where the good (IHMN), bad (Demon), and the ugly (Fedore the Intern Monkey) are all dead before the damb game even starts.

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:16 AM
So stupid question how long before I recover from this faint cause right now if you all go running off I will probably be the only one left.

CelesJessa
03-25-2004, 01:17 AM
Celes,I don;t know how, but you lost some san earlier. You only lost 4 this time.

It must have been within the lastest chapter, because at the Insanity Stats at the beginning of the chapter, Clara has full sanity, and it didn't visably change until Davil died. (visably meaning, if I did lose some, you didn't post it)

EDIT: And I hope this RP goes by the basic horror movie rules: if there are girls in the main group, at least one of them will live. ^^;; Heh. I'm not gonna get hopeful though.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:18 AM
If we all go running off you'll probably be the only one alive. That creature PROBABLY isn't stupid/animalistic in it's intelligence. Which means that it now knows there's fresh meat... and further knows it can't get into the area they're in... so it's probably waiting outside. Which is why Frankie has no intention of leaving until they perform the banishing thingie.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:19 AM
Maybe I failed to post it then.

And Sith, umm, wait about 10 minutes or so, game time, I will post or PM you when you can get up again.

1. Nice call on the intelligence. If a hobo knows when you all arrived, what makes you think the beast missed it...

2. The ceremony does take place at midnight... And a point of logic, if the beast is free now, why does it spend all day in the attic?

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:22 AM
Because it's gotten to liking the attic... or there's something in the attic... like a piece of amber... to seal it in... and it knows that if it lets someone get it it can be locked away... ah hell...

Well either that or one of the originals isn't dead... but that seems unlikely.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:24 AM
I'll stop giving hints. You all can work it out. Oh, and the ceremony to banish it doesn't require a piece of amber. The amber was destroyed when the Beast escaped. You only need the box to seal it... oh crap...

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:25 AM
I think like Alan mentioned before it doesnt like daylight. So we may be safe outside as long as I'm right. It just seems that something that can only be summoned at night might not like the daylight.

Edit: He thinks it doesnt like daylight

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:26 AM
Heheh... don't worry. I won't use that in character like. Well, I guess I don't know why it's up there then... other than maybe the murder of Marion Allen having been faked or something like that. Or the one guy who went to the insane asylum somehow still being alive.

I'm assuming that would be written in the book Jad and SS are going to be looking at anyway, though.

Edit: You assume whatever you want. Frankie isn't moving from that room, other than to stick David's body downstairs, if no one takes it, until that thing is banished.

Truce
03-25-2004, 01:27 AM
Marion Allen! The murder case was never solved...or something. Bleh, Ecurt shut up now.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 01:28 AM
Of course, the beast has had a meal, so it's hunger might be sated at the moment.

And it may very well hate sunlight, being a night hunter and all ... possibly.

And, Zero, stop proving that my lead is another dead end, dammit! I need everyone to think I'm competent here!

I mean, erm ... shiznit.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:30 AM
Henry breathed deep, unsure that that thing would leave them alone. "I think it's safe to say that none of us should be opening that door again anytime soon."I have the urge to have Frankie stand on that box with his hands on the door and be like "Gimmie all your money or I open the door! I'll do it, man!"

Truce
03-25-2004, 01:33 AM
Henry doesn't have any money...

Besides, if Frankie opens the door the rest of them have a better chance to make it back to the cars.

Oh...damn, didn't IHMN's guy have the keys?

CelesJessa
03-25-2004, 01:34 AM
And then Cthulhu would pull you up into the room and kill you, and only you.

But it seems we're stuck in the house for awhile... But I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more twists and turns in the story than it seems there are going to be now. ^^ How fun. I just hope my character doesn't die.

I wish I could give Clara a bazooka.

EDIT: even if IHMN's guy had the keys, his body is down here now, we can flinch the keys from his body.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:34 AM
His body's on the floor... so it doesn't matter if he had the keys or not (and he did, to one of the cars)... just means someone will have to search the body for them. And his wallet... and his shoes... and yah. I call his guns!

And Frankie could push it open with a stick... or just throw it open and duck down again. The thing can't reach into the room or anything, so he'd be safe so long as he didn't put any limbs up there.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:34 AM
Man, you guys are screwed on so many levels... How will the heros get out of this jam? Tune in next time for another exciting adventure of Call of Cthulhu!

Did IHMN leave when his guy died, or is he just lurking and doesn't want to post anymore? I figured he would at least say if he was interested in re-joining next chapter.

EDIT: Don't start messing with the evil Beast krylo... You would need to put a stick in the attic to push that door open enough... And the Beast just proved it was strong...

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:37 AM
Man, you guys are screwed on so many levels... How will the heros get out of this jam? Tune in next time for another exciting adventure of Call of Cthulhu!I don't know about the rest of them, but I plan on picking anything of value off of IHMN's body, using the fireplace to cook the corpse and eat it, and reproducing with Cele's character, using the children as fresh meat... thus living out the rest of my years without leaving the house.

Edit: Can I at least shoot the ceiling every time I hear the thing move around?

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:40 AM
You scare me sometims krylo... Although I will admit that is original...

... I think someone just lost all his sanity points... And, to pull a Demon, I think Clara would rather take her chances with the monster then reproduce with Frankie. Zing!

EDIT: Sure, won't do anything, but you can. Call it a long term sanity effect.

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:40 AM
Well I guess I now have a reason to bring in my saber and get armed.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:43 AM
... I think someone just lost all his sanity points... And, to pull a Demon, I think Clara would rather take her chances with the monster then reproduce with Frankie. Zing! But just think of the conversations they could have at birthing time...

"Ohh, Triplets! We're eatin' good this year!"
Or
"This 'uns a little skinny... guess we'll haf ta do more rat huntin'." *creak* "Son of a bitch!" *blam blam blam* "Quiet down up there ya damn monster!" *creak creak creak* "I hate that thing."

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 01:43 AM
I admire a man who likes to pull a little Demon now and then ...

Sweet Angry Jesus, I feel dirty.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:47 AM
I'd pull a little demon there, big boy. Raowr.

Edit: Hurry up and have 10 IC minutes pass so me and sith can move.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 01:50 AM
Still, it is a better comeon lone than:

"Hey baby, is that a Demon in your pocket or - Holy Hell! Sweet Angry Jesus! It has my face! Get it off! Get it off!"

or

"Big Chief wants to know if you would join us at the fire. Smoke the peace pipe. Tear the Demon with us."

The second one doesn't even make any sense!

CelesJessa
03-25-2004, 01:51 AM
I don't know about the rest of them, but I plan on picking anything of value off of IHMN's body, using the fireplace to cook the corpse and eat it, and reproducing with Cele's character, using the children as fresh meat... thus living out the rest of my years without leaving the house.
O_o;;; (why am I always brought up into conversations like this? )

You DO realize that even if that DID happen (which it's NOT), you would only have something to eat every 9 months? (or am I overlooking something?)

Clara wouldn't take her chances with the monster instead of Frankie, she would convince him (or force him) to go into the attic for something, and let him get killed instead.

Edit: Can I at least shoot the ceiling every time I hear the thing move around?
I wouldn't think that would be a great idea, after so many bullets, I would think the wood would get weak, making the monster crash down on us... not something we want to happen. ^^;;

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:51 AM
I don't think either of you make sense, but one time jump coming right up!

Celes had a great point I forgot! If you weaken the wood, it can bust through around the wards and kill you all! Fun!

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:52 AM
You DO realize that even if that DID happen (which it's NOT), you would only have something to eat every 9 months? (or am I overlooking something?)Well, obviously we'd have to smoke the baby and then ration it... Duh. Little bits of baby at a time.

And there's no way Frankie is going up there.

Edit: Now I have to flip a coin to decide if I'm going to shoot at it every time it moves or not.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:53 AM
You have put way too much thought into this to keep me from worrying...

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:54 AM
One quick question: Is it ok if after we get back to the hotel I say that Alan finds there is a package waiting for him and when he opens it finds a note that reads thought you might need this and the saber. There whould be no name it was just dropped at the front desk and no one would remember what the person that dropped it off looked like. If not I might just go to an old pawn shop and buy it or something.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 01:55 AM
And, of course, we could hunt rats if we run out of child too soon... and if she had twins, we would kill and smoke one, while raising the other as long as possible on breast milk, so it'd be bigger when we finally had to eat it.

How worried are you now?

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 01:55 AM
Pawn shop is better.

EDIT: I am this close to failing my sanity roll...

CelesJessa
03-25-2004, 01:57 AM
Well, obviously we'd have to smoke the baby and then ration it... Duh. Little bits of baby at a time.

Or they could just order out pizza.

Celes had a great point I forgot! If you weaken the wood, it can bust through around the wards and kill you all! Fun!

Oh good. I'm glad I pointed that out so he would get ideas on how he can kill us even more. ^^

Krylo: Do NOT make Frankie shoot the ceiling.

Truce
03-25-2004, 01:57 AM
Meh. Let me just say that the moment any of you start hitting on Celes' character will be when Henry also makes his move, thus ruining your chances of any romantic moments.

PS - Celes, it's the sad fate of being and playing a girl that's not a full blown lesbian.

PPS - If my character dies, I can make a horny lesbian character, right? Not that I plan too...err...yeah.

Sithdarth
03-25-2004, 01:58 AM
Umm .... Masterful jump where ever did you come up with that.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 02:00 AM
Also, if... when, Frankie dies... would you guys rather my next character be a professional thief (lock picking, hiding, sneaking, pocket picking, yada yada), a professional pervert (kinda like the real me... only he'd get to see a real demon... that probably has tentacles, or two)... a japanese school girl (Mitsuru's breath became labored as the beast's claw ripped her shirt. She was lucky and had managed to back away far enough to save her soft, succulent flesh, but... etc. etc.)... a flamingly gay fashion designer (Oh no no no... you'd look MUCH better in something like this... just let me get your inseam, gabriel dear.)... or a meat shield (Demon? I ain't 'fraid on no demon. I'm gonna ram my boot up it's evil ass and twist.)?

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 02:00 AM
Alright, I've been on too long. Good round tonight, but it's time for me to sign off. See you all tomarrow.

Pervert is out. So is Japanese school girl. Meat Shield positions are always needed, and a thief could be useful. As for falmingly gay, this was the 20's where being gay was usually kept quiet, so that wouldn't work either, although it would be funny.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 02:07 AM
Everytime someone other than me refers to 'Demon' I'm slightly worried they're refering to me.

It's not that I'm a bad guy, I just ... y'know ... It's my job to be the 'Destroyer of Worlds' ... I'm not a bad guy. Or gay. But if Krylo is, I might consider a conversion.

Only we wouldn't be gay. We would be 'Faaaaaaaaaabulous!'

Horror movie rules people. Why do you think I didn't go along. remember your rules of the horror movie never go 'check out' the haunted house. Leave the house alone, until you are sure it's safe.

Leave the attic alone. no one puts anything good int the attic, the attic is always evil or at least full of crap.

Why the hell would anyone keep their head in a hole when there is a pile of bones there?

Edit - Problem with stats, it ignores common sense (Ducking instead of looking).

Edit 2 - Stupid worthless 90 luck...

Edit 3 - Note that I was expecting death, but an instant death, not "I shall go take a quick glance. Hm? What are those bones doing up here? I shall look at them for a while and inspect them, not caring at all that there is a large pile of bones here in the 'haunted house'."

Edit 4 - Since you all stayed up late and even adding some common sense to my guy is to late, I am coming back as either a David clone, or a thief.

Oh, and the journal is now gone, seeing as it was in a pocket in his coat near his heart. Also the better of the two guns is gone to.

Edit 5 - And his keys (Car) are gone as well. If I'm going down, I'm taking some one else with me.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 03:43 PM
He didn't just stare at the bones. That all happened in about two seconds, game time. He popped up, saw the bones, then the beast was on him before he could think. The long description and conclusions were all come up with instantly and were there for reader info, not as his actual thought process.

Luck doesn't have to do with anything. Is the monster there? Luck roll. Can you dodge the monster in time? Has nothing to do with luck, purely a dodge roll.

You can come back as a David clone. In fact, I can keep his sheet and you can be his twin or something in the next mission, come to avenge your brother's death.

And you are just doing that to be spiteful. They don't need the journel anymore anyway. All they need is the papers, to translate the Latin, and the gold box, and they can complete the ceremony. And no, you can't take the papers or the gold box with you since you carried neither, and you are quite dead, so no coming back and taking the papers or box away.

IHateMakingNames
03-25-2004, 03:44 PM
Duh I am being spiteful. I want someone else dead, preferably Demon or kyrlo.

Edit - Why would readers need to know about all that? Not like any of the investigators will be looking up there any time soon. It should all be a mystery to them.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 03:44 PM
That may happen before the end of the mission...

IHateMakingNames
03-25-2004, 03:49 PM
David's dead body could have landed on the gold box/papers.

And I thought luck was everything... Monster attacks, do a luck roll to see if it has to sneeze or something and mess up, then a luck roll to see if David trips and fall before getting hit. Luck can do anything.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 03:53 PM
David's dead body could have landed on the gold box/papers.We're going to strip you naked and throw you back into the attic for the monster to eat anyway. That way it'll be too full to eat us, but we still get all your stuff.

And why do you want ME dead... I understand Demon... but what'd I do?

IHateMakingNames
03-25-2004, 03:55 PM
Because I missed your post saying that you were going into the attic (Long before we even went near the attic), and the post saying FZ saying that you were going first due to some rolls.

Edit - I also want Tor dead, seeing as his guy just shrugged off a monster and a destroyed body of a man he was just talking to so he could light up a cigarrete.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 03:57 PM
I think we all know why he wants Demon dead... And in case you couldn't guess it from what just happened, the monster only eats hearts. Thus the neat hole devouring David's heart. It might throw the body back at you.

And the Gold Box isn't even at the house, and the papers are on Sith or krylo I think. And you landed on the floor.

And if it worked like that, just max out luck and everone is invincible to everything. Luck only works when it seems nothing else fits, like if they arrive in time to see a suspect, or if there is a random chance the monster shows up. In concrete dictated rolls, Luck doesn't factor in.

About Tor... Seriously, what is with that? He shrugged off a teammate being messily devoured and killed before his eyes? Luckily he has a low Luck and a low Sanity... And Luck DOES deterimine who monsters like to attack first...

Actually... the box is on Neil (SS), Alan (Sith) had it, but Frankie (me) told him to hand it to Neil after telling him about the Mu thing, to see if he could find out more about it at the school.

And I could see us getting into a 'food fight' with the monster. "Eat the corpse so we don't have to explain it!" "Growl roar hiss" (translation: I only eat hearts) "What? You want some A1 with him? Fine! Now eat!"

And my next character is SO having maxed dodge... it seems to be the only combat skill which is equal to survival thus far.

*resists from making a ton of puns related to hearts*

I think we all know why he wants Demon dead... And in case you couldn't guess it from what just happened, the monster only eats hearts.

Well, if it only eats hearts, then I think Krylo is safe....

So it's kinda like a REALLY violent version of the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts, in KH, they steal your heart, here... they eat it. (alright. I think I've gotten far enough off subject... time to come back.)

IHMN, your next character should be a big time hunter kind of guy (poacher maybe) so he would have lots of weapons to take care of the monster with.

With a 40 disguise, is that good enough to disguise one self as a cult member then pretend to be one with 70 in fast talk?

Edit - kyrlo, I edited that in after he posted.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 04:21 PM
IHMN, sneak is a skill you need to activate, but saying, "I sneak up on..." is enough for me to do a sneak roll. However as a warning, there are both Psychic monsters, and monsters that hunt on smell, so Sneak won't work on every monster, and it won't work if you were already spotted, so no going, "The monster sees me, so I sneak up on it..."

As for the disguise, you would of course need the clothes, but it should be alright. The disguis lets you see a cultist and make sure to dress properly, and the Fast Talk should get you by many situations.

EDIT: He upped his dodge, it used to be 40 bonus, not 50.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 04:23 PM
Wow, a 98% dodge... You are going to fricken dodge everything... Just watch out for those magic spells that don't rely on hit rolls...

And no, he can be some sort of big game hunter, but he gets the honor of being another new guy who gets involved somehow, just like any other new people made will be. Maybe the team could start an official investigation group to cover their monster hunting, and he could try to join.

EDIT: You also need to watch out for multi attack monsters. You can only dodge once per round, so if the enemy gets two attack successes, you going to get hit once at least.

IHateMakingNames

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 04:29 PM
That will help, but you won't be able to resist forever. Magical monsters, powerful cultists, and Gods have a LOT of MP. As in upwards of 20, and in the case of Gods it is usually closer to 50. So you won't be invincible, but you will be hard to kill.

Cause you dodge by say leaping away, or falling back. It is hard to dodge once you are in the middle of one dodge already. I will double check the rules, but I think you can only dodge once per round. It is a concentrated action, and takes up a whole round to do.

EDIT: "If an attack can be seen, a defender may try to dodge it. Against guns, only the first bullet may be dodged."

I was getting my rules mixed up, so you can dodge lots of melee attacks if you can see it (Still wouldn't save you here, you can't "see" the Lurker), but you can only dodge one bullet at a time no matter how many there are coming at you, and you can't dodge an ambush.

Warning, after a review, you can no longer change characters.

Well, lets see...

Low STR, never good, but not always bad. Don't take this guy into melees.

Average CON, good for resisting some evil spells. Good for pumping up life. Not much else.

Average SIZ, not good or bad.

8 INT, he won't be quick on his feet, and he will have trouble learning spells, but it won't be too horrible.

DEX 18, insane, not much else to say. If you need agility or to dodge, you almost can't lose.

POW 18, practically earmarked for a sorcerer eventually with his high SAN and good MP amount, but the INT will temper his ability to comprehend magic.

APP 12, will help with his Fast Talk, and will mean if he takes APP damage, he will still have a reserve.

EDU 5... He is a high school drop out. Heck, he is probably a middle school drop out. He doesn't know a lot at all.

Skillwise, He can wheel and deal with the best of him with his high FT, and he can shoot them afterwards with a high Handgun, and nothing short of a machine gun or a room full of cultists can hit him and his 98% dodge, but other then those average. He is a meat shield, but he is all shield and no meat. Has the potential for magic, but his low INT will slow down his attmempts.

EDIT: You changed dodge before the review came out, so I will cahnge it. And no, you can never hit 100%

Right. Journal destroyed ...

IHMN, do you have any reference to the situation in which you got the journal back from Gabriel? I don't recall ever handing it back, and if that were true, he would still have it.

It's not entirely important, but I still would like closure on this.

Oh, and it's juvenile to wish death upon someone for very little reason. Not that you would care, or anything.

IHateMakingNames

I asked in discussion thread somewhere if David could have taken journal from Gab (Figured it would be useful), FZ said yes (Gab would have left on a counter, David take), so David had the journal.

And it's not like I personally want you to die, just your character, and possibly you suffer a little.

Krylo
03-25-2004, 07:57 PM
People did have insanity reactions. Frankie was rooted to the spot with intense fear... that was one of them, and Alan screamed like a little girl and then passed out.

It was only temp insanity...

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-25-2004, 07:59 PM
Fz was refering to the key, I believe.

And you better get a hold of that animosity, kiddo. That attitude problem is going to really suck for everyone around you when you hit puberty.

Forever Zero
03-25-2004, 08:00 PM
Yes, for temp insanity, you need to lose 5 or more SP in one hour of game time. To go Indefinitly insane, you need to lose more then 20% of all your SP in one hour game time. So lets say...

Bob has 50 San. Bob freaks out, and loses 5. He goes temperarily insane, and passes out for 10 minutes. When he wakes up, there is a horrible monster over him. He loses 5 more. Now he has lost 10 SP, and that is 20% of his total San in under one hour, so for the next month or so, he has developed a long term mental disorder from his panics and bad situations.

Oh, and sanity will be important to. You need a high sanity, or bad stuff might happen...

EDIT: And McGruder is JAD's guy, the Priest.

Krylo
03-26-2004, 12:13 AM
McGruder doesn't have the stats. His POW 7means he would pass out before it ends. We need two more people (Added Spirit to the group.)
But McGruder knows latin... which would be useful in making sure everyone is doing it right at the beginning. Plus... he might get a power bonus from the spell, and I don't think he's going to box the lurker, and thus woudn't make a very good guard person. Clara should DEFINATELY be a chanter... like she said, she can't do anything so far as weapons goes, and thus would be a horrible guard person.

Forever Zero
03-26-2004, 12:15 AM
Oh, there will be dangers you don't expect during the chanting......

IHateMakingNames
03-26-2004, 12:24 AM
While chanting spells, can a person still dodge things?

Forever Zero
03-26-2004, 12:26 AM
Well, it would interrupt their chanting to be running around and chanting at the same time, but as long as 1 person is keeping the chant going at ALL times, the spell will still work. It just means one person would have to hold still and pass thier cahnce to dodge, while another runs around and avoids whatever danger.

EDIT: And I'm adding Lazy to the list, just because we haven't heard from him in a while, and his skills are adequate. We have a good number of rifle shooters and warriors, so I think the last pick will be... J Man. His rifle isn't as high as others, so maybe he can be spared.

Krylo
03-26-2004, 12:30 AM
Damn... I'm wishing David's character wasn't dead now so he could dual-pistol wield. Well if there's going to be cultists, McGruder might be good as a guardian thingie... and Frankie might be a switch hitter, chanting most of the time, but taking time out of the chant to plant some bullets in some cultists or whatever if things get too heated.

And I assume cultists, because various cthulu-esque monsters popping up seems... wrong and weird, plus the wards would probably defend against them as well. AND, they wouldn't just go away after they were done chanting, probably... so having a bunch of monsters pop up would be bad in that they'd be hard to impossible to kill... plus having the chanters make sanity checks the whole time would be bad.

I suppose the spell could cause something like that though... or the lurker could be off summoning zombies... or maybe the things it killed could come back as zombies when it wants.

uh, hello there. I have been kinda following your RP because I was interested in what Call of Cthulhu was exactly, and since I am normally wandering around these forums why not see it in context. Anyway, sorry to disturb you I just had a quick question. How do you pronounce Cthulhu?

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-26-2004, 12:54 AM
It has multiple pronounciations.

"Coo-Thoo-Loo" is how I pronounce it.

Edit- And the special nonaformentioned item is a book on how to translate Latin. Probably won't do any good rigt now, before the ceremony though ...

Krylo
03-26-2004, 12:55 AM
Cah-tuh-luh... tuh is where the emphasis lies, and it should all be said quickly, like a guttural cough. Really though, according to what's-his-name, the guy who wrote the whole call of cthulu thing, it can't be pronounced by human tongues, and that's the whole point of it... that's just as close as you can come.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-26-2004, 12:57 AM
Howard P. Lovecraft would be the author.

Like a modern day Edgar Allen Poe. Writes worth shit, but his ideas are somewhat identifyable with.

Unlike Stephen King who writes worth shit, and his ideas are equally worth shit. (Except for Desperation ... kinda. TAK!)

edit - And with 10 power I could easily chant, but am reluctant to, despite my inability to fight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but CoC character's have 'base' attack (punch/kick/headbutt) stats don't they? I mean, any idiot can swing a flaming baseball bat wrapped in barbwire and do a little damage, right?

Krylo
03-26-2004, 01:00 AM
Lovecraft... couldn't remember his name worth shit... kinda like his writing is worth shit. But yah, my pronounciation was his ruling... even the humans can't pronounce it bs.

Also, Edgar Allen Poe wrote pretty decent poetry, for a Goth, but his stories did, indeed, suck, and I agree on King. I can't really stand him... except when his stuff is in movie form. Then it's kinda cool... but only because they butcher it, generally.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-26-2004, 01:05 AM
His villians are cliched, too.

Picture this: An omnipotent evil that goes around doing evil things only because it is in his nature to do so. And yet the evil itself is intellegent and should have a reason for doing what it does, but only does so because it is, by vague definition, evil.

Which is a descriptive word, itself, and not to be used to back character motivation.

Also, they all have stupid catchphrases which don't ever mean anything. The only sound marginally creepy. "I see eyes like holes." "TAK!"

I see eyes like holes. What the fuck does that mean?!

Forever Zero
03-26-2004, 01:11 AM
Never read a Lovecraft book. Just thought his books might be an interesting idea for an RPG, and thus here we are. But "Eyes like holes"... There is so much better that could have been used there, and I don't even know the context of that line...

As for the base damage, technically yes, but if you are weak enough, as in your STR + SIZ is low enough, then you will literally do negative damage with some attacks you are so weak. Thus, unless you have high STR + SIZ, don't go melee!

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-26-2004, 01:13 AM
Strength 8 and Size 8.

Not too too sure if that's good, or not (haven't read the book in soooo long), but I'm pretty sure it's average.

Edit - Oh and my comments were about King, not Lovecraft. Lovecraft wrote, mostly about his nightmares. Apparently he had a lot of them ...

Krylo
03-26-2004, 01:16 AM
He also has that famous description of a nightgaunt going for him, about the black void where a face should be and yada yada. Maybe someone has the exact quote?

Along that line... you should put nightgaunts in some of our missions. They're cool, although I'm not sure if they're connected to the Cthulu mythos or something else that he wrote.

Personally, if we're going to be in an RP based of someone's written works, we should be roleplaying in the literary world of Oscar Wilde.

Or Jane Austin! That would give IHMN the chance to flirt poorly in a time period where everyone was so uptight, all the did was flirt poorly.

Uptight ... flirts poorly ... Great Scott! IHMN is a literary work of Jane Austin!

I though of that ...

I personally think he means he views eyes as holes. Windows into people.

But that's just as silly. Actually the best villian catchphrase he had was from Storm of The Century, but it wasn't even his character or phrase.

"We are Legion. For we are many."

"Shocking and uncouth black things with smooth, oily, whale-like surfaces, unpleasent horns that curved inward toward each other, bat wings who's beating made no sound, ugly prehensile claws, and barbed tails that lashed needlessly and disquietingly. And worst of all, they never spoke or laughed, and never smiled because they had no faces at all to smile with, but only a suggestive blankness where a face ought to be."
- H. P. Lovecraft, "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath"

I honestly didn't know who you were talking about Demon, I thought you still meant Lovecraft. I've never read a Stephen King novel either. I generally stick to Sci-Fi, although this RP has gotten me interested in picking up a Lovecraft book now...

If you want to read decent works out of the 1920s, with Mystery and Intrique, then I suggest:

(By Raymond Chandler)
The Big Sleep
The High Window
Lady in the Lake

But not 'The Little Sister' or 'Farewell my Lovely.' Both are convoluted, and their solutions/endings leave you wanting a better ending/resoultion.

Edit- I dunno. I think he just lashes out whenever he can. At friends (I assume you) and enemies (Me! Glee!) alike. Or he was just teasing you. Maybe. My money is on the violent lashing out due to an unsatisfying childhood wasted flirting into an electronic box.

Ironically, nightgaunts are the servents of one of the two "Good" Gods, so we may be seeing them on our side one day...

Seriously, they are the best murder mysteries/mysteries ever written. They're in the 1st person which is easily forgivable because the main character, Phillip Marlowe is such an interesting character.

Big Sleep - Best ending to a book ever.
The High Window - Most convoluted plot with most satisfying ending to a convoluted plot ever!

Two thumbs way up for Raymond Chandler. (Just don't watch any of the movies ... bleh ...)

Why do all these parents feel the need to make crap up for thier kids names? There are hundred of thousands of perfeclty good names floating around, just pick one of those, but don't make some random shit up and expect people to say, "Ohh, Alasaka/Asia/Heaven, I like that, it has a ring to it!" expect them to say, "What illegal substance were you on when you named your child?" And when they fall into your eye when you're sleeping and you don't notice until four weeks later! And then they have this thick film all over them, and you finally get them out and you're all like, "Curse these eye lashes!"

And a group of girls hears you screaming, and they come over and they're all like, "Wow! You have the greatest eyelashes ever! I am sooooooo jealous!"

And then you stab them with an icepick. And of course, you're the one that goes to jail ...

Also: I knew Celes's real name before I even started actually talking to her. My web of informants is deep and far reaching. Muahahaha.

Meaning: He's a stalker. *grabs the baseball bat and glances out the window*

(There, I fixed it, since I didn't use AKA right)

And I would like to have thicker eyelashes, but I don't go up to people and say "Wow! You have such thick eyelashes! I wish I did too."

But it's not like I put mascara on more than absolutely necissary (there is NO WAY make up is getting that close to my eyes (I'm very protective of my eyes)), so I guess thick eyelashes aren't that important for me. ^^;;

And of course, you're the one that goes to jail ...Exactly... but replace the icepick with slipping them roofies at the next party, then doing the same to the ugliest, nastiest guy you can find... and then mixing up fake semen (mayo and corn syrup... and some other ingredients) and squirting it on her leg... sticking them in a bed together naked, and then leave them to wake up the next day. Muahahaha!

Or when your eyes feel sticky on the corners because they interlock and get a little eye-gunk on them, and it's a bitch to make it feel normal again. I'm having that problem right now.

Edit: AKA is "Also Known As"... so, no.

I found my normal picture! Yay! Now people can compare it to the ones where I'm making horrible faces!

Having worked in an elementary school I took the liberty of compiling a list of the oddest names I've seen.

Genesis -girl
Female (pronounced Fem * a * lee) -girl
Shithead (pronounced Shith *ead) - boy

That is all.

Dante

Zen Imperial Law.

Beat that.

You can do better than that.

I could also use non-English names... but that would just make everything lame.

I did see someone called Pidass Stu once.

Shithead (pronounced Shith *ead) - boy

Those are just... sad. Even though every time I type my name into a computer, the spell checker wants to change it to Genesis.

Hey, thanks for the pronunciation thing. And while I was searching for my answer I realized that you talked about me here. Don't worry I can't join because I have very little time to do anything right now. And for the next few months because of school.

Who's being the watcher/chanter?

The chanters are:
J Man
Lazy
Celes
Ecurt
Krylo
Spirit

And everyone who is not a chanter is a watcher, or IHMN, who is dead.

I like bulleted lists *easily amused*

Being easily amused is a good thing. At least you're never bored.

And I think Jad's three take the cake for bad names...

I know a person named Phuc...

Is that pronounced like I think it would? Am I the only person that doesn't know someone with a bizarre name? All the people I know have normal names...

Hurry up and finish it already... I want my guy (Who theoretically can kill any of your characters) to get into this...

First, chill.

Second, I saw what you had before edited it...

Third, try to kill an investigator, and you getting mauled with no chance of return. And you overrate your skills....
