I really don't know what to say, except why the fuck did I not know about this before?!.

More information (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_Knight):

Batman: Gotham Knight is a 2008 animated direct-to-DVD anthology film of six animated short films set in-between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, using Japanese anime for the animation similar to another tie-in The Animatrix, as both are collections of short films of Japanese Origin. It is the third in the DC Universe Original Animated Movies line released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation; with the first two releases being Superman: Doomsday and Justice League: The New Frontier, and the next release being Wonder Woman.

So that's why the artstyles differed so much.

The other designs:

Some more information (http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/satoshi-kon-animating-batman/).

The animation studios drawing this include Madhouse (Gungrave, Gunslinger Girl, Death Note, among others), Studio 4C (Spriggan and Transformers: Animated), and Production I.G. (Jin-roh: The Wolf Brigade, Ghost in the Shell, GitS: Stand Alone Complex, Blood: The Last Vampire / Blood+), and one of the directors is Satoshi Kon, who directed Paprika, Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress.

In other words, this should be epic.

Amazon already has a pre-order page up for those interested. (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Gotham-Knight-Single-Disc-Edition/dp/B001614F0S/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1205994694&sr=8-13)

EDIT: More details (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-12-08/japanese-anime-studios-confirmed-for-batman-video)

Batman comic writers Brian Azzarello and Greg Rucka, A History of Violence film writer Josh Olson, Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, The Dark Knight producer Jordan Goldberg, and Batman: The Animated Series writer Alan Burnett are each contributing the script for one of the shorts.

Okay seriously if Batman outmaneuvers the Joker by eating a fucking potato chip, I'm going to hit somebody.

Anime just can't keep its fucking hands off anything anymore.

I was going to make some snarky comment about Japan and learning lessons to stay in its borders but this is too bad for that. Just stop. Seriously.

C'mon! From what I read it seems this idea was brought by DC itself and they're even hiring western writers for this.

I'm not even a Batman fan and I'm interested in this, especially because it doesn't seem like they're going to completeley bastardise on the character.

Well think of it this way, at least they're working with quality animators instead of something like..oh say..that abomination that is commonly referred to as CLAMP. That would be a valid reason to moan about this project.

Especially because the CLAMP girls work in animation. Yeaaaah. Right.

But I agree that the animation looks to be top notch. I'm a bit disheartened by metrosexual Bruce Wayne, but that will only be in one short and the other character designs look bitchin'.

Edit for below: You know, I don't want to derail this thread because this is an interesting project, but what does gender have to do with anything? Please PM.

Couldn't really care less about the gender thing. I just can't stand their animation/drawing style and cookie cutter stories.

What Tera means, Skweeb, is that the group called CLAMP isn't involved with animation.

They create purely manga.

Anyway, this looks to be interesting, indeed.
Might pick it up if a DVD comes out and if I have nothing better to spend my money on.

I liked this better the first time I watched it, when it was called The Big O.

Looks to me like Batman Beyond Bruce is finally coming out of retirement..

Ok, now Japan is just teasing me about Batman vs. Shikamaru.

Goddamn it, Japan.

Still, this is pretty damn awesome.

Why must they pervert the greatness of the Dark Knight by making him into an anime?

To tell the truth, Batman the Animated Series and such seemed to have an anime style to it already even though it was made by Western animators, so I don't really see the difference...except for the actual FACE of batman, I suppose. It's even pointier than the Western stuff, I guess, which was already pretty pointy. Oh, and Batman of course is effeminate early 20s something instead of strong jaw tough guy. That's how you know it's an anime.

Yeah, I'm going to miss the Chin Of Vigilante Justice. Just doesn't seem like Batman unless he's got the Soda Can Crusher. But the actual screenshots seem to have more of the All Star Batman and Robin style going, where he seems more sadistic and psychopathic than tortured and lonely.

And honestly? Having Conroy's voice come out of him might be strange. But it's Conroy, and that's what's important.

EDIT: Okay, having watched the video, The Chin is still there. Phew.

EDIT EDIT: Six different art styles? Maybe not.

EDIT EDIT: Six different art styles? Maybe not.

They did that with the Animatrix, and each style fitted with the story told, in my opinion.

If they do that here... lighter stories have the more playful art style, the darker stories have the sketchier, darker art.

Beat me to it.

...still slightly interesting. I'll check it out. It'll probably be a good show or a good laugh. Can't lose there.

Hot damn! They've made Batman look even more badass than he already is! Even the crotchety old-guy one looks like he could dish out some pain, even if it is with a walker. Definitely worth checking out, for sure.

Actually, was I the only one who really hated the Animatrix? It was like the regular movies except with almost none of the action and even more philosophical annoyingness. I hope they don't go that way with this, I want to see action-packed Batmanning.
