View Full Version : What Video Games Have Not Been Made Into Movies Yet?
And I think the list is growing shorter as we post.
*NOTE
Do not include games that would not work as a movie, such as Space Invaders or Pong.

Wiki is saying the Halo project is being revived (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_movie#Film_adaptation), so Halo doesn't count.
Metal Gear Sol-Oh for fuck's sake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_%28series%29#Film).
Metroid was in pre-production limbo for years. I think it got cancelled in the end.
Zelda. Please, no Zelda movie ever. Neither Okami.
OH OH I KNOW WHICH VIDEO GAME SHOULD BE MADE A MOVIE. Let me give you a hint:
Phoenix FUCKING Wright (not that subtle am I).

There's no Kid Icarus or Starfox movie, thank goodness.
No Advance Wars movie either. And no Mario Kart movie, though there is a Mario movie. Wario hasn't been done yet. No Bioshock movie, though it's practically a movie in itself.
Aha! No Command and Conquer movie yet! Imagine the implications of that!
Duke Nukem, because, well, you can guess really.
Oh and here's a list of all Games currently in pre-production (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games#Currently_in_pr oduction_or_pre-production) so anything on this list is out too.

Thank goodness they haven't made a Tales of Symphonia movie...or any movie based on a Tales game for that matter.
It's good they haven't made a Viewtiful Joe movie but how trippy would that be? A movie about a guy who loves movies so much he becomes a movie character to take the place of his favorite movie character.

After the shittiness that was The Subspace Emissary story, I'd doubt it would work for the same reason a Kingdom Hearts movie would never work.

There's an OVA for ToS and another for ToP, but I don't know if that counts.
Also, Viewtiful Joe anime.

RT, I can't believe you posted that and not this. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oeSoy0Ludo8&feature=related) YOU of all people!
And from the game-to-movie link, I am very, very sad to see Mechwarrior in the Dev Hell section. They could make a great movie from that.
Oh well. Looking forward to Chromehounds, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed, assuming they make it into theatres.

I thought The Subspace Emissary was awesome.
Games that aren't movies.... uhm...
Something Portal-esque. I think that might make an amusing action movie.
Ooh, or something Earthboundish. I"m not sure how it would be done, but I'm on too much of an Earthbound/Mother kick right now to not mention it.

Son of a Bitch...
Still not in theaters...wait so they made an OVA of a story that's already in a video game? Why not just play the game!?!?
Or is it a whole new story with the same characters...because to be honest if it was done right (i.e. NOT BY AN AMERICAN GROUP)...then actually it wouldn't be so back I imagine...maybe I spoke to hastily before

Eternia, Symphonia and Phantasia were adapted for the small screen by XEBEC and Production I.G. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_series#Anime). It seems they follow the original plotline.
I thought The Subspace Emissary was awesome.
It's awesome in the same way that Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts II are awesome the first time. They sell and strike chords because of fanwanking, but not their own artistic merit.
That said, I loved the platforming/beat em up feel in the game. Not downgrading it at all.

Only if it is directed by Itoi (who I think has done movies before). None of this "Hollywood" crap please.
By the way, I admire your tenacity at playing MOTHER 3 in Japanese. I don't understand a single symbol of that language and did the same. It was amazing.

The "Tales of X" OVA's do follow the original plotline, but they don't get anywhere near the end of it. They mainly function as very expensive and well animated teasers for the game.

Hmmm, a Condemned movie would be cool, but isn't being done...
Rule of Rose... Screw what anyone else says, I thought that game was cool, though slow and frustrating...
How about a Sonic the Hedgehog movie done in the same style as the TMNT movie...

Even though it's a PC game, which I suppose in a roundabout way falls under the video game category, I'd say STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl would make a pretty damn kickass movie if done right. I mean, radiation? Fallout? MUTANTS? and the ever present oppressive fear that you can die at any given moment? Hell yeah.

Lets try and keep it that way. Failed saturday morning cartoons, horrendous decline of the franchise, and let us not forget..youtube poop devoted entirely around sonic....theres good enough reason why to keep that blue rat from soiling the silver screen.

I'm all for a Secret of Mana movie. I've had dreams about the battle with the Fire Gigas, and I think it would be spectacular if it was done right.
As for LoZ, I've seen some good fanfiction, and I've seen some horrid fanfiction. YouTube also has a trailer for an indie version of LoZ that has been circulating forever, and Link's hair alone makes me think that it would be a terrible movie.
Super Mario Bros. was an unfortunate case of several good actors being forced into a story that was complete and utter crap. It could have been done so much better, but I'm afraid that no one will ever be brave enough to try again.
Earthbound and ChronoTrigger would also rock as movies. The stories were well-written, and the battle sequences would be as much fun as the ones for SoM.

Totally in agreement. The Fallout series would lend itself very well to movie format. It has all the makings ready! Retro technology, a valid reason for adventure (water chip hunting, radiation ghouls, super mutants, cults!), interesting characters. I'd buy that for a dollar!

Yeah. It'd be like the Road Warrior except with less cars and Mel Gibson and more factions and space aliens.
(Note: I haven't played Fallout 1, only 2.)

Here's my two cents for games to movie idea:
Armored Core - anime on hiatus, but a merc-mech movie with a dark twist
Tales of (Pick One) - cinema could use a good anime-fantasy-movie right about now.
Resistance: Fall of Man - gore, mayhem, and monsters. It spells fun.
Tekken - there was an anime movie, but I speak for the live-action one being developed.

They haven't made a Grand Theft Auto movie yet. Not that they should and I don't want them to, I'm just surprised it hasn't been done. The plot would be pretty damn easy since GTA's plot is already about as derivative as it gets. I really wonder how they're going to handle Max Payne's melodrama.

I think I heard something about a GTA movie once.
Grim Fandango. Heard some rumors about a movie of this awesome game once too, but guess they were just rumours.
Oh, and it would have to be made by Tim Burton.
Yeah GTA already existed in movie form even before the games. In fact GTA3s original box art was based on the movie cover.

Well Ron Howard directed a film called "Grand Theft Auto" a while ago ( in the early 80s I think) but it is not at all similar to any of the games. That's what one gets with generic titles.

Re: The Zelda trailer.
I'm pretty sure it was designed with the mindset that a Zelda movie would suck. Which is why they made it seem so much like Eragon in every way.
Re: Golden Sun as a movie.
I would love to see it if it turns out better than the Zelda movie.

The Legend of Dragoon, oh, wait...
Oh, hey! Phantasy Star Univers-oh, wait......
I'd say any of the Grandia series, but I've never played the original, Grandia 2 would cause too much fuss with Mareg dying and Milennia getting sucked out, plus all the religious issues, Grandia Xtreme just sucked, and Grandia 3 is halfway there, anyway. To be fair, Grandia 3 isn't "a movie you play like a game," but it has a large cinematic quality.

See are we including Anime? I'm hearing Ace Attorney noises about that being up for discussion and Tekken is already one. The streetfighter anime movie was freaking great. No Kylie of course but you can't have everything.
Also, best movie ever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHY8NKj3RKs)
And dude. Hideo knows Snake better than anyone.
Wild ARMs I'd like but it'd feel too chopped down.
Deus Ex?
Shadow Hearts, Devil May Cry and Shin Megumi Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. My god I would love these provided they were done right.
