This is the discussion for the RP. Now it is actualy about the current RP too, and not what will happen in the future! Hooray!

Could I say that the Dr. was a surgeon in the war?

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 06:09 PM
I wasn't planning on him being that kind of doctor... Umm, I dunno, maybe he could have been an aid or something. he would have been too old for the war though, since he is in his 70's, and the Great War was only about ten years ago.

Dr DR
03-22-2004, 06:09 PM
Come on people post! I want to do some interacting before my net connection cops out! (As it will do in 51 minutes. Curse you time difference!)

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 06:10 PM
I may just push along the story, but the next part is where it starts getting back to you guys making decisions is why I was waiting for more people.

Dr DR
03-22-2004, 06:15 PM
How do you actually pronounce Cthulh?

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 06:17 PM
Dunno... Choo-thu-lu is how I say it, but I'm not sure if that's right.

Krylo
03-22-2004, 06:29 PM
Cthulu can't be pronounced by human tongues. The closest you can come is a very gutteral ca-tuh-u-lu. It should sound similiar to a cough when done correctly.

In the 1920s, were there coke cans, or only coke bottles? If it's only bottles, my guy also carries around a bottle opener.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 08:30 PM
Coke bottles, thus the bottle opener will be added.

Squishy Cheeks
03-22-2004, 08:36 PM
well I guess it's good I have high psychology score, what with having to listen to confession. I should get sanity points back from religion, and psychology.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 08:39 PM
You'll just have to wait for some time to pass to build it up again. It was a bad roll of the die is all, and it's only 1 point. Plus, psychology only effects being able to properly judge what others are thinking, psychoanalysis is the one that is able to diagnose and treat mental problems.

Squishy Cheeks
03-22-2004, 08:42 PM
Well Religion would have a similar affect as psychoanalysis. I know I feel better after confession.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 08:49 PM
I'm realising the flaws of a Stat based RP...

*Sigh* A. Religion isn't an officially recognized skill. It is more of a background trait.
B. You can't psychoanalyse yourself, and you haven't had a chance to confess to others yet. You all grieved some at the hospital, then made your way to the library to figure out what is going on.

Just chill, it isn't a huge loss, and you aren'y going to be ambushed and terrified anytime soon, so it's a minor loss. I might give you your point back, but don't try to argue this when we start encounteirng supernatural horrers and your taking larger D's worth of sanity damage.

Squishy Cheeks
03-22-2004, 08:55 PM
i'm not complaing. i'm just stating, confession makes me feel better.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 10:06 PM
That may be, but like I pointed out, you haven't had a chance for confession yet, and the original point was you getting sanity points back for Religion. However, am I misunderstanding? I thought you meant you wanted the 1 Sanity point you lost back because of your religion... I'm just not on the ball tonight, I feel like an idiot...

Yes, if the question is actually, in the future say on free time if you can go to confession to regain sanity points, then yes, but only if your character is devout (Yours is), and it can only be done once per rest period, aka once for each break in between missions.

REPOST: Geez, is the RP that bad? In the name of advancing the story, does anyone have anything to say/do? And anyone with a high History or Archeology skill can examine the gold box...

REPOST 2: Any suggestions for how to keep the RP going? No one wants to post, and reasons/suggestions are welcome...

Krylo
03-22-2004, 10:17 PM
I'm just waiting for one of my character's skills to become useful. And IHMN beat me to opening the box... Basically, for the time being, he's kind of subdued due to the death of a friend, and nothing that seems he would be useful for has popped up.

IHateMakingNames
03-22-2004, 11:04 PM
Did I permantatly lose a sanity point for skimming? It says 88/89, the 89 used to be a 90, which meant my max SPs...

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 11:18 PM
Yep, as Cthulhu Mythos goes up, Max sanity goes down. And you gained a CM point for reading the book...

IHateMakingNames
03-22-2004, 11:27 PM
Who's read the journal so far? I assumed only David had, and at most everyone else just got a summary from him.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 11:31 PM
Yes, David has the full story, everyone else just got whatever David felt like telling them. It takes 4 hours to read the book from cover to cover, so currently David is the expert on what is in the book and the potential situation.

EDIT: Idea, someone with a high INT could try and fast talk the librarian into helping find a book on transalting Egyptian while you all debate. It is samll and won't take long, and consider the Librarian an automatic assist. You would just need a Library Use roll.

Forever Zero
03-22-2004, 11:53 PM
Just to sort this out, Demon is going to investigate the house alone, and kryo and Sith are going to translate the box?

Krylo
03-22-2004, 11:59 PM
I'm not sure what Demon is doing... but yah, me and sith are going to translate. Also, I think... now that I see that neat idea, Frankie could do a fast talk with the librarian to get them some more help finding the books, as well.

And looks like IHMN is heading to the cop shop to find out if the murder and what have you really happened.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 12:03 AM
That can be found in the library's newspaper section. Another Library Use and Fast Talk roll is on the way...

EDIT: However, there are police reports as well if he wants to use them.

EDIT 2: Ecurt has joined the search for Mr. Allen. Does that group want to use the library or the police station?

Squishy Cheeks
03-23-2004, 12:05 AM
I'm going to go look through religious tomes for anything useful.

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 12:06 AM
I would think police reports might be easier seeing as David is a detective, and more accurate because they are police reports.

And your time lapse are some what annoying/confusing, seeing as you just skipped an hour and only mentioned two people out of four who had plans...

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 12:06 AM
So, you would be going to a church, or staying in the library?

EDIT: It means those two people are now one hour ahead. They are sort of stuck in their time bubble until everyone else catches up. You will all be worked out tomarrow into one cohesive group... And Demon, isn't it getting late, Game Time, to check on the house?

EDIT2: It looks something like this.

Squishy Cheeks
03-23-2004, 12:19 AM
Going to church.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 12:19 AM
Well... Demon is investigating the house solo... This will be interesting. Note, since it is 7 game time, this will most likely be an all nighter... And since he is going off on his own, his actions at the house will be in PMs...

EDIT JADGuy: Alright, nothing in the scenario about doing a church search so I don't know what you could turn up, but you can try.

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-23-2004, 12:24 AM
Investigating the house, alone, with the long shadows, floorboards creaking ...

I'm invetsigating the study. Mayhaps, the Doctor's private library (if he, indeed, had one).

And from what I'm getting from your questioning, it's 7 and you're wondering if I think it's a little late for a room search?

Naw. I have a ride home. (My own).

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 12:26 AM
Oh Jadguy, forgot to ask, what exactly are you looking for?

Sithdarth
03-23-2004, 12:26 AM
I have this funny feeling that this house we are going to investigate might end up being our base. Any truth to that?

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-23-2004, 12:29 AM
Demon: This house is evil, I tells ya! Evil! EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL!
Sith: Demon, you said that about your hotel room.
Demon: I just want attention ...

Forever Zero

Oh, it won't be. Demon can tell the team about it when he gets back...

Exorcism for dummies?

I just figured the Catholic church has been around for a long time they might have some kind of useful information.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 12:49 AM
This generally falls under the more paganistic rituals, so in older years the Church most likely burned and destroyed the books that would help here, but I'll search through the rulebook and see what I can turn up for you to find that will be helpful.

Sadly, all that will need to wait till tomarrow. It's just about 1:00 here, and I've got school tomarrow. Later all.

Krylo
03-23-2004, 12:51 AM
I'm guessing that he'd get some information on it, but probably mostly wrong. I doubt an american church will have any of the real 'tomes' that the vatican might have (probably even including true mythos books).

Sithdarth
03-23-2004, 12:53 AM
Goodnight FZ; and if this RP is halve has fun as it has been so far I think we may just finish it.

Krylo
03-23-2004, 01:24 AM
Finish it? Screw that... if it keeps being this fun I say we just keep sending people out on new missions, and when someone's character dies they make up a new one to enter with the rest of the group if they want... and it keeps going until we get tired of it.

Also, J-Man: From what I understand, Cthulu is rather unforgiving... seeming as no one has replied to that yet, you may want to you know... not go out to the farm house with an evil demon in it at night without any information...

And it's not going all that fast... considering how many people we have in it. Also, until FZ does all the stuff for everyone... we're all pretty much in seperate times, so we can't really go with you. For me and sith it's midnight, and he's probably heading to a hotel, while I head to a park (yes, my character, being a drifter and having no money, will be sleeping in a park). For you it's about 7 pm.

On a side note, and totally off topic, adding the word turkey to the front of any lunchmeat makes it taste about ten times better.

J Man
03-23-2004, 10:49 AM

Yeh, I know, but Jim can be kinda stupid at times, so he's bringing the journal, for directions inside the house or something.

IHateMakingNames

03-23-2004, 03:29 PM
I'm in the process of reading through the RP, (since it is only 4 pages) but it is a LOT of reading.

If somebody could just go over what's happening with everyone at the moment, (are we all together? what are we looking for at the moment, or what are we doing, etc) it would help a lot, I just wanna make sure I don't accedentally skip over anything while quickly reading through the RP, ^^; But nobody has to, I'm sure I'll manage.

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 03:35 PM
The group is... somewhere...

krylo and Sith are several hours ahead of us.

Demon left to go some where (I do not know where)

JMan and Tor, no idea.

I'm going to go to the police station, but apparently haven't yet since FZ hasn't made a post about my guy.

Tor
03-23-2004, 03:47 PM
I and JMan is heading to the barn to check out if the summoning realy happened or something

Dr DR
03-23-2004, 03:50 PM
I'm just outside the library with those other guys. I don't know what the hell I'm doing really.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 04:04 PM
Trying to review as best as I can...

It is 7:00 PM for you, Celes.

krylo and Sith are busy researching, they will be busy until the library closes at midnight.

Demon left, with the journel to investigate the house. This is VERY dangerous, and not recommended... For future note and to avoid misunderstanding (Demon seems to believe that the house is the house of Merriweather), THE House in question that holds the beast is an abandoned old farmhouse outside of the small town of Ross' Corner. Merriweather was semi-rich, and had other houses he lived in.

J Man and Tor are following Demon, but without the deed to the house (Demon took it to) they will have a hard time getting there, and may get lost.

Dr DR is trying to follow everyone else, but they all left. He will need to get a cab and follow J Man and crew and hope they go the right way.

IHMN is going to the police station to investigate if the story Merriweather told the police is documented to see if this is all just insane rambling.

JADGuy seems to be taking this all in faith (Taking it in Faith! He's a priest! I make the funny!), and is at the nearest Catholic Church and is looking for anything that could inform him of what is happening.

Anyone not mentioned is at the library, waiting around and doing nothing. I may drop some people if they don't post, both to make this manageable, and to clear them up so I don't have to keep track of them anymore.

Squishy Cheeks
03-23-2004, 04:08 PM
I'm at the Cathedral in Boston. The Cardinal's library would be more extensive than a priests.

Then your pretty far away. I'll factor that in to your time usage.

CelesJessa
03-23-2004, 04:09 PM
So, what would be a good thing for my character to do at the moment (or anyone to go with at the moment) (just trying to figure out a way to get my character in. ^^; ) What kinds of things still need investigating that my character could do?

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 04:11 PM
Demon is long gone, and krylo/Sith are even further.

So if your going to tag with some one, either Ecurt (Though I think he might be with Dr, who I thought was following krylo), or me (I think everyone else is gone).

Or do your own thing, whatever that may be.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 04:14 PM
Well if you help either JAD or IHMN, it will speed up their search, but IHMN will have a harder time trying to get you into the police station since you have no police ID. You can join Dr DR and try to follow the others to the house and see what is going on there. The only thing left to look into is the De Vermiis Mysteriis, but you are going to need to be really good to get access to it because it is restricted, and in the Miskatonic University Library (Oh yeah, that is the library you all are in by the way, since it is the biggest in Arkham.)

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 04:17 PM
I figured Demon/JMan/Tor were going to die since they are going into the house with some evil demon (I think it's supposed to be Cthulh) who will rip them apart.

And you can just walk into police stations you know, but she wouldn't be able to go past the restricted areas (Though we both are fast talkers).

Edit - Didn't Jad just say he was already gone?

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 04:19 PM
It isn't Cthulhu, there is only one Cthulhu, and he can't be summoned, only contacted. There is a long, LONG list of lesser monsters that aren't gods in the book. This is one of them.

Regardless, if any of them fail a luck roll, it will turn very ugly very fast...

And the records are in a semi-restricted area. A detective (IHMN) has access being a cop, but a civilian (Celes) does not, note being a cop. It would just take a Fast Talk from IHMN to get her through (FT from IHMN since he is the only own with the ability to get back there on his own, and just needs to convince the clerk Celes is okay to bring.)

CelesJessa
03-23-2004, 04:22 PM

"Really good" at what? Fast talking? Or library research skills? She could handle fast talking, but I odn't know HOW fast of a talker she would have to be.

Only a Persuade Roll and evidence of Mythos will make Dr. Armitage, the head of the library, give you access to the book. And you will need someone that speaks Latin to read it. And it takes far more then 4 hours to read the book...

In that case, I think I'll have her go with IHMN or somebody else that she could follow and be helpful. ^^;; (my character feels so useless at the moment, that's what I get for being gone all the time turn spring break.)

An epic moment in RP history, and even board history! That really will help when it comes to battle though, so thanks. There will be at least one battle, if not two or three before this mission is over...

Anyway, I won't say how the situation at the house will turn out until later...

Krylo
03-23-2004, 06:05 PM
I still get the feeling it will turn out with at least one out of three corpses being mangled and found by the other investigators... leading to unneccessary sanity checks for all of us. Damn them anyway.

And yes... it is an epic moment in board history. I've NEVER been visible on these forums, or even the TWC forums. However, like you said, it will help out when it comes to battle.

03-23-2004, 07:10 PM
Sorry, I already included her with IHMN. You went to the library, and made a discovery that will help, but I couldn't give you too much. And the thing in the story is not meant to banish this demon (There is a way, you will discover it later), but it is one of the only spells I found that a Priest of any Christain religion would use, since most if not all of the spells in Call are based on Voodoo, Paganism, or other foul magic that any sane Priest wouldn't dare use. You may find out how to cast this spell later though...

Squishy Cheeks

Could be worse, Captain TellshisPast. You could have watched the closest thing you ever had to a father get stuck onto the wall via knives, and shot in various spots that wouldn't kill him. You may have had to watch as your sister got raped, and then have all her limbs blown off by shotgun blasts until she was just a torso.

Ecurt - No problem. You checked in at one point, so I know you were interested. Spirit hasn't in a long time though, and he may be out soon.

Jad - That was that pseudo-Mythos we were talking about earlier, so no, no Mythos points yet. You will get some soon however...

Demon - That's... Um... Ew...

And a sanity update.

Forever Zero

It will happen to everyone eventually. First time you truly encounter a Mythos Beast, you immediatly gain 5% Mythos, and lose the corresponding number of Sanity. It only happens once though. from now on, you can only Perma-Lose Sanity when you read Mythos books, or see special Mythos signs.

Alrighty then. So um, let's see, how are we going to contact eachother to get day two running?

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 10:25 PM
We call each other/happen to be staying at the same hotel (Besides krylo and people who live in Boston)?

Edit - Since alcohol is illegal (I think), what places are opened at night exactly?

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-23-2004, 10:28 PM
Or we all return to Arkham Library?

I amended some inconsistencies in my last post, Zero. Bringing them to your attention.

Krylo
03-23-2004, 10:29 PM
Well my character and Sith's could have arranged a meeting for the next day seeming as they both wanted to go look at that house... and have been working together so far... so if everyone else happened to be staying at the same hotel, they could set it up with Alan (sith's character), and he could get Frankie (mine).

Squishy Cheeks
03-23-2004, 10:31 PM
Speakeasies?

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 10:31 PM
krylo's idea sounds easily workable. We might go with that. If there aren't any objections, I'll officially start Day 2.

EDIT: How did I miss that... IHMN and Celes, you would need to go to an illegal Speakeasy to get a "drink"... Unless you go to some little cafe type thing...

Demon with a Glass Hand
03-23-2004, 10:31 PM
Yes ... but I still have the key. And the Deed. So anyone going to the house would need to find me first ... Unless they broke in.

Forever Zero
03-23-2004, 10:33 PM
You didn't lock the door on your way out...... And don't try to edit it now, it's not a big deal anyway. J Man at least knows how to get there, so the others would be fine.

Krylo
03-23-2004, 10:33 PM
I'm thinking Frankie and Sith would probably decide to meet at the library... after all they found out about that Mu thing too, and it's the only place they both know that the other can find (other than the hospital)... and might use that and the gold box to get the mythos book thingie from professor snootybottom or whatever. Whether they do that before or after going to the house with everyone else is up in the air.

Edit: Other than IHMN being a cop, it'd be really easy for them to find a speakeasy. It would be like a teenager today trying to score pot...

J Man
03-23-2004, 10:33 PM
But did you lock the door to the house?

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 10:33 PM

Alright, I'm goning to post with krylo's plan for Day 2. You can discuss game plan in the RP or here.

Krylo
03-23-2004, 10:36 PM
You're going with my plan because I rock. Just admit it.

Also, you could easily rationalize it by that hotel being the closest to the hospital... thus it's only natural that they'd all try to get rooms there.

IHateMakingNames
03-23-2004, 10:37 PM
Technically the main part of the plan is mine, seeing as I said it first. You just added in how your guy would be involved, as well as a reason for us all being at that one hotel.

J Man
03-23-2004, 10:37 PM

There was a quick mention of the murder of Marion Allen. It isn't hugely important, but I can give the full details. Just assume IHMN reads this to everyone.

A Mr. Marion Allen was murdered today (This was 30 years ago, not literally today) at the docks. According to police, it was a robbery gone wrong. Mr. Allen's last known contact was with the police that same day. He calimed that some strange men were after him, and wanted a box and a piece of amber he didn't have anymore. The police thought he was mildly mad, and tunred him out. They are now looking very closely into the case to see what may have happened, and who these "Mysterious" figures were tailing Mr. Allen.

EDIT: Jad's insides turn to liquid, then he explodes. Hastur pops up and devours the messy remains, then leaves.

Wonder not, FZ, why none of the opposite sex
wishes to place her dainty thighs beneath you,
not even if you undermine her virtue with gifts of choice
silk or the enticement of a pellucid gem.
You are being hurt by an ugly rumour which asserts
that beneath your armpits dwells a ferocious goat.
This they fear, and no wonder; for it's a right rank
beast that no pretty girl will go to bed with.
So either get rid of this painful affront to the nostrils
or cease to wonder why the ladies flee.

And anyway... the americans kind of outnumber the norwegians... and the americans that go to bed at decent hours outnumber me. Ergo, we end up with a lot of stuff happening around 9:00 pm GMT -6.
