Alternate Thread Title We Need A Music Section - we have books, comics, movies, games, but no music section?

I hate to say it, but YouTube halps me to find my music. I usually fall in love with a series, like Jekyll, and search for my favorite clips on YouTube when i'm bored. I find a few interesting FMV's, and fall in love with the music they used. Well, after browsing one day, I came across a band named Skillet - they're a Christian Rock band. Do not, under any circumstances, let that turn you off. These guys are really good. I've posted some of their music videos below, so take a look. Seriously.

Skillet - Comatose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sOQONJ18jI&feature=related)
Skillet - Whispers In The Dark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgiJkrAL9K4&feature=related)
Skillet - Rebirth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbdTL7T0bU0)

I also found Subway To Sally this way. These guys aren't are what Nightwish would be if Nightwish was German. That alone warrants a link:

Subway To Sally - Ohne Leibe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lREMx3QNtl4)
Subway To Sally - Mephisto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzU-iGRwIQs)

I don't know much about Within Temptation, but I do know that I like this song:

Within Temptation - What Have You Done Now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dBPKZmT_do)

I've found a lot of music I like through Pandora (http://pandora.com/). It's awesome, and I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, 42 tells me it's unavailable in Canada, so...

And I agree that we should shove a music forum or subforum in somewhere.

Now.

Her voice is amazing. And the semi-orchestral background music is awesome too.

Also, youtube is how I find lots of music too. That and myspace.

Some christian bands (or at least semi-christian somewhat) that I like despite my non-religiousness are Killswitch Engage, Flyelaf, All That Remains, and probably some others that I can't think of right now.

Machinae Supremacy's new album is worth a listen. Not as good as some of their previous works IMO, but nothing terrible.

It sounds kind of odd, but I actually prefer religious music that's in a different language I don't understand. With religious music, it always ends up coming off as kinda corny or too touchy-feely for my tastes, but usually the music without the lyrics does enough for me.

It's all right Red, I got you covered:

E Nomine - Mitternact (http://youtube.com/watch?v=VXytaD5AKyM)
E Nomine - Vater Unser (http://youtube.com/watch?v=iHahMGj657Q) Basically, the Lord's Prayer in German.
E Nomine - Das Tir In Mir (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zQHFVOdJbXU) This is the only one that's not religious; it's Pagan, details about wolves.
E Nomine - Das Omen (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jpaPlc62RbE) This is a fantastic, epic piece.

Oh, since we're talking about religious music... Slayer.

Seriously. Tom Araya, the lead singer of arguably the most popular 'satanic' band of all time, is a Catholic.

EDIT- Paganism is a religion, Seil. Just FYI.

Forgive my ignorance where Slayer is concerned (perhaps their 'satanic' overtones are really masking deeply religious platitudes?), but the religiosity of individual band members doesn't mean the band itself should be considered religious. I'm sure a lot of guitarists and bassists and drummers and other riffraff in the entire secular musical spectrum consider themselves [religion X] practitioners, but their band is still considered secular.

Just your typical "no smiling" metal band. Just violent/morbid/etc.

I mean, Angel of Death is about concentration camps n shit. The first word in it is "Auschwitz". Like, not pro or con but just concentration camps. I don't think there's anything satanic about them, its just a label attached to the music by ignorant people.

But then again, I said I was ignorant so what does that make me?

Even if the lyrics aren't all about worshipping Satan and drinking goat's blood or something, it's still ironic considering 90% of the people who bash them for being Satanic don't even really know the lead singer is about as not-Satanic as you get.

I mean even on that we could talk about the myths about Satanism but it's irrelevant cause irony was the point here.

The more people that listen to Machinae Supremacy, the more kittens are in the world.

I really don't think there's any way for Machinae Supremacy to top out "Hero" and "Soundtrack To The Rebellion", but the fact that they keep trying and end out making good music says lots.

Iced Earth > Blind Guardian.

Not that I don't like Blind Guardian, mind you. Hell, "And Then There Was Silence" is one of my favorite power metal songs.

Their last album, "Christ Illusion" has a couple songs that aren't so much Satanic as they are Anti-Christianity. They also add a couple lines which are basically "Yay Satan!"

(Very NSFW. Should go without saying, but there you go)

Blind Guardian - Bard's Tale was the first fantasy song I'd ever heard, along with a really neat Newgrounds flash movie, and it remains one of my favorites.

What do you think this is, Questionable Content?

We're a nerd forum for nerd things, music is plainly beyond our purview.

Dutch band. Just heard a song from them on the radio, and it's really nice.
