Freespace Recommended?

I was told a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away that you want to try and keep about 1/5th of your Harddrive space free, otherwise it slows your PC down significantly and causes problems.


Is there truth to this?

I have 350 GB of space. That's 70 GB of space to leave free.

So, no, that's stupid. Leave about 6 GB free with XP, Leave about 2 GB free with 2000, and on less than that, you don't have much to worry about.

Nikose is entirely right. While Windows/Mac/*nix use a hard-drive based pagefile, it's not typically that big. Mine is 150% of my system RAM, meaning about 3 GB.
