Here's an "interesting" and rather irritating problem:

MP3 player, required software install prior to connecting it, all fine and dandy, at one point during the install, you're meant to plug it in. Ok fine, done.

Due to some furniture moving, it's become necessary to change which port the USB cable is plugged into. As far as I knew, this shouldn't be a problem....

...yeah...

Turns out I can't change ports over (located at opposite ends of the box and are both 2.0) as, while it's clearly connected (charging, other devices work in that port when I try it) the software itself seems unable to fathom that its the same device.

To me, that's bizarre. An email to Creative has come back with them scratching their heads and saying it should work too. In the meantime, I have reaching problems with charging the player and syncing it.

Worst comes to the worst, I can just do an uninstall and reinstall but has anyone come across this before? I may just do it on Sunday.

Did you do the 'safely remove hardware' thing or did you just yank it out of the socket? Cause I used to be lazy about that and then like for instance my wireless network adapter ended up installing itself like a dozen times over.

Since it's on the opposite side, might it be because it comes from a different card? I don't know if that would make a difference, but it's a thought.

@fifth: fortunately the display on the player shows me when it's safe to yank it but yeah, doing the safely remove hardware didn't make a diff.

@blue: nice idea. they are both off th same motherboard however one is actual onboard usb ports, the other was a socket to plug usb ports on the case into. I have no clue if this is whatmakes it so different.
