View Full Version : Trouble with xbox 360's NAT setting

My brother recently bought an xbox 360. This is all well and good if we could just get the fucking thing to keep an open NAT so my brother can get off my back all the damn time. I've forwarded all port settings, enabled DMZ, enabled UPnP, set UPnP port forwarding, port triggering, port range forwarding. Did this all exactly as I was told to do by microsoft's How-To shindig.

It worked fine for a about a week and then the 360's IP address changed for no reason. So I changed the numbers in the network and it was fine and dandy again for another week or so. Now the piece of shit just doesn't want to have an open NAT and I went over the network settings with a fine toothed comb. Nothing is out of place.

I'm using a linksys four port router
Model BEFSR41 ver. 4

Hoping one of you tech savvy folk knows how to fix this so my brother can leave me alone about this.

What are the router's settings on how long an IP address will last before being reset?

I'm not exactly sure, I really only know the basics of networking to get by. How would I go about checking this?

I think its usually in the security settings, its been forever since I've messed with those.

seeing Filter IP Address Range, Filter Port Range, Filter MAC Address. Those are in the Filter section. Then theres VPN passthrough:
IPSec Passthrough
PPPoE Passthrough
PPTP Passthrough

I haven't touched anything in either of those. Poked around in other parts but I'm not seeing anything, at least to my knowledge (lacking as it is in this department), that controls how long an IP address will last before being reset.

Perhaps Client Lease Time?

Ah yeah, there we go. It's in basic setup. It's set at 0, would this have anything to do with the 360's inability to keep an open NAT setting?

I believe that should be it, of course there is one surefire way to find out...

Played about with the Client Release Time. No go, still stuck at moderate. Just checked up on microsoft's dealy on what routers are compatible. BEFSR41 ver. 3 is but BEFSR41 ver. 4 isn't. GG microshit.

Can you roll back the firmware?
