Was gonna make this thread last night, largely for the point of finding out what the song that played at the end was(Dream Awake by The Frames) but 42 helped out so I went to bed and forgot about it.

But anyway, promising new show, snappy writing(how they got the guy to confess was just beautiful), interesting main characters, a cop who was framed and came out of prison 12 years later(of a life sentence, hence the title) an extremely intense and unpredictable zen master(the second meaning of the title) who alternates between calm and manic at the drop of a hat, both of which can be peaceful and happy or utterly terrifying depending on his mood. He was also awarded a huge wrongful imprisonment settlement as well as a deal to be reinstated as a detective (the third meaning of the title, a new life), and he also SPOILERS seems to be gunning for taking down those who framed him, who are mostly other cops, so it looks like he might try and bring the force down from the inside, or at the very least bring down a lot of very powerful people in a revenge quest. And his initially reluctant partner is a recovering drug addict who is still an alcoholic and possible sex addict who seems to have problems in the force of her own, including her father who seems to be a higher up. Goddamn I hope it sticks around, though from what I heard the rating were pretty good so here's hoping.

So what did everyone else think?

I think I need to figure out how to get around the NBC episodes without it stopping me because I'm not in the U.S. Anyone have advice?

I really liked this show for about fifteen minutes until the gloomy realization that I was watching a procedural cop drama set in. I don't think I'll be following this series closely for the same reason I could never get into House, namely the SSDD syndrome this will inevitably succumb to. The main character seems fun, the tired "solve a crime by the end of the episode" structure does not.

Of course, if I find myself with some free time on a Wednesday this isn't a bad show to pop in on before South Park comes on. I just can't see getting so invested I set aside time to watch every episode.
