I have a DVD R/RW burner. I have a DVD R (and RW for the record), but I have no idea of a way I could possibly burn it. I am told I need the right software to do it. So any idea what that software might be?
Are we talking just a regular Data burn or straight up Video Authoring here?

The software that came with your drive. That is all you need. If you haven't installed it yet, well, that's what you need to do.

I will have to look for it, but I wanted other options if I cannot find it.
Oh and just data burning is fine, though video making would be nice. Especialy if it handles ogm and mkv
Deepburner will do for regular dvd burning then.

thanks that works. though I would still like to make DVD videos. so if you know of some programs I can use please let me know
Free authoring programs tend to blow compared to... not freeware? You really have to luck out by getting something bundled with your hardware (like me with Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2 hohoho) , or be a chump and pay.
You could try trolling through THIS (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-dvd#2). It's a list of Authoring software both Free and not free. Good luck.
