I think I meant to make this thread after I was entrenched in Spaced (thanks CroTeam!) but forgot or something, and then I became hooked on Friday Night Lights and remembered again, and since it's premier time I thought it would be prudent to go forward.

Anyways, have you ever gotten involved with a series, except you came to the party a season or two after it started and found yourself trying desperately to catch up, with DVDs or reruns or illicit downloads or what have you?

Recently, I burned through the two series of Spaced (note proper English terminology!) in about two weeks, but that was because they're short and it took a combined watching time of 6 hours, and after I was done I had nothing to look forward to except for future memories. More pressing in the meantime is my repentance for ignoring the television version of Friday Night Lights; 22 episodes, each 45 minutes long, and I have to catch up by October 5. Note that I'm not complaining (except, I guess, for not watching it the first time through in real time), but it is a unique feeling trying to cram in an entire mythology before a deadline.

Well, over here they'll start to show Heroes next Wednesday.

The first season.

So what you describe is pretty much how it goes for me every time. Good thing I don't get involved with too many shows.

I got into Avatar when they were getting into the Second season. Thankfully, I knew someone who got Netflix. Yay!! I was able to catch up pretty quickly that way, getting the dvds and all.

Now I want to start watching Heroes but I don't have much time to sit and watch all them episodes. Sad, ne?

Okay, I just realized there's an upside to this, too.

Meister, can you just buy the DVD's?

I would imagine not, as PAL DVDs aren't yet available, otherwise I'd get them myself.

Yeah, generally no one officially "knows" about a show before it was on TV, and DVDs are released during or after its run. I imagine this has something to do with the networks having to maintain the price for commercial slots.

Region Code, dude. There are ways around it but I'm not that dead set on it yet. What I meant was the DVDs aren't released officially over here and won't be for a while.

Well, you could always just break international copyright law.

I happen to know a great website that has links to all shows posted on video sharing sites, but in the interest of the no piracy rule and the fact that I only use that sight as a last ditch effort to get caught up on shows, I am not gonna share it this post.
