Alrighty then...

I'm checking out something for a friend of mine. She has her PS3 hooked up to a Hitachi LCD HDTV. When you put the TV onto the PS3 input, lines begin to form from the bottom of the PS3 to the top. Kind of distorts the image but not by much.

However, when you put it on the TV the lines don't form at all...

Thoughts?

Most likely using the wrong resolution on either the TV itself, or on the PS3, try to make sure they conform. And If either of you DON'T know, 1080p and 1080i are two different things, make sure you didnt get them confused.

Yea, what Noodlesis said. Make sure the signals match, or the PS3 will whine like a dirty whench.

Oh noodle, it's confirm I think. No harm intended.

Right now, it's hooked up for 480i I believe. When it WAS 1080i (HDMI) I didn't see the lines.

Will the lines affect the TV?

They shouldn't, but why in the hell is it hooked up for 480i when she has an HDTV?

EDITUS: Also, conform is perfectly acceptable in that context. In fact, I believe it would be preferable to confirm.

-_-

We hooked it up with HDMI but they complain too much for my tastes...

"Oh, but the sound's not right!"

"But the sound doesn't come out of the stereo except when the games are being played"

Finally, everyone settled for the regular hookups for the PS3 (which she doesn't really play anyway) and HDMI for great audio for the TV. I had it hooked up great the first time but...

Weeeeell, then I'm afraid you can't do much about that. Assuming that the HDTV is either 720p or 1080i/p, they're both usually widescreen formats. Your image, a 4:3 aspect ratio, is coming onto a TV with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

So, unless you want to try to figure out a way for the sound to work well on both the PS3 and the TV, she'll have to settle for completely missing the point of the PS3.

Still, good on you for trying.

I don't have one, but I do believe the PS3 also comes with a set of component cabling. You can connect that to the TV and they'll get their games in HD again. As for the stereo, your options would be going from PS3 > Stereo > TV with a full set of component cabling between each. Easier answer would be to simply take the direct PS3>TV component approach and a fiber optic cable from PS3 to stereo. You'll need to enable fiber optic cable on both PS3 and the stereo, but this setup gives them the option of dolby 5.1 or higher when they want it, or just standard TV audio if they don't. Due to the sound coming directly out of the TV will use normal electrical wiring instead of light, mute the TV when the stereo is on or there will be a .3/second delay in audio between the two devices.

My PS2 is connected like that.
