I'm just wondering if people tend to think of this as being good or bad. There have been some examples of both extremes of quality, but I mean as a whole.
I ask this because I was thinking of certain examples of shows that contained it:
Reboot: THE first major 3D project I'd ever seen, and done with fluidity, intelligence, and style.
Code Lyoko: A great series that featured both 3D and 2D animation with nice results.
Power Rangers/Super Sentai: A variable degree of use, with varying results, but always with great detail. You could BUILD some of the equipment they portrayed.
On the other hand:
Pilot Candidate: Unfortunate proof that not everything from Japan is made of gold, failing utterly in both 2D and 3D animation in terms not of line and figure, but animation.
The Butt-Ugly Martians: They weren't kidding. Looked like crap, had crap for motion, and made me feel like my IQ was lowered just for looking at it.
Zoids: Great models, and I'll write off the cel-shaded look of them as stylistic, but GOOD GRIEF they could have used more animation sets!
So what do y'all think? Is 3D animation an overall good thing in TV as a useful tool, a bad thing that detracts from the rest of any given show through better or poor quality, or not necessarily good or bad depending on the quality and execution?
