What player are you using?

One way that I know is to:

NUMBER 1: Make sure both files have the same name. (gangsta.avi/gangsta.srt)

NUMBER 2: Make sure they're in the same folder.

NUMBER 3: Enjoy.

Usually you'd choose to open the subtitle file along with the video file in the opening dialogue or just select the subtitles from a menu if your player detects subtitle files automatically.

For example, in the VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) (which I recommend) you go to "Open file" and there's a box for "subtitle options" right underneath the file path. You just check that and select a subtitle file.

I'm starting to think its the file (its a .sub by the way) and not me. Because I used VLC player like Meister suggested, and it just gave an error message
