I'm not sure where I picked it up, or even what it is exactly but I believe my computer has a virus.

Let me preface this by saying the Spyware programs I am using at them moment are Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, and Hijack_This. None of them have detected anything serious.

However, recently I have seen my computer do some things its never done before. A few times in the last day its just completely frozen; not even my mouse could move; sometimes its done this for say, firefox or such, but not my whole computer. Additionally just now, my computer restarted on its own, no prompting or anything, just out of the blue.

Does anyone know a good program for looking for viruses and trojans?

I would also consider the possibility that your hard drive or power supply is dying. Issues like this can be as much a problem with hardware as it is software. But really, any anti-virus should do. Try to avoid norton though as it is a system hog.

Seconding ILS-Chucks' ideas, as well as possible overheating issues.

As for your problems, I agree it could very well be hardware. Power supplies show similar symptoms before dying.

However, I suggest AVG for your virus needs. It's free, updates daily, and has taken care of problems for me that even Norton's dropped the ball on.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone, it never occured to me that it might be my power supply. I'm gonna look into it if it happens again. I'm just paranoid because I went through a reformat and had to download everything again; I thought I might have picked something up.

do a scan. if you have a virus, AVG WILL pick it up- it might not be able to FIX it but it will find it. :P

I think it's overheating issues. The computer locks up if the video card or processor gets too hot. You might look into a new coolant system or a whole new video card.

My computer would lock up after a few minutes of playing Counterstrike, or it would take a few hours if I played no games but simply sat and surfed. I think it might be related.
