Welp, I got it, and its no more or less impressive than its Cartoon Network debut. For those of you who missed that, its a story of Hellboy & company going toe-to-toe with a vampire that Professor Bruttenholm (and I still don't understand how that gets pronounced Broom) destroyed, that is in the process of being resurrected.
Why is this vampire being resurrected after all this time? Let's not focus on that now.
The character dialogue is decent enough, and there a number of really good Hellboy moments to be had. The visuals are great, fight scenes well done & the voice acting is top notch. Still, the movie does come up short in both the premise, and in story. The last part of the flick is devoted to a fairly pointless fight between Hecate & Hellboy (because she resurrected the Vampire and... uhm... wants Hellboy to join her? Okay, so I couldn't follow it.)
Its a fun ride, and worth maybe a rental, but you might want to take a pass on ownership. As for extras, it has a few more than Sword of Storms, but still not all that much to see.
There's an included comic called The Yearning, which covers the mission brought up in the fun briefing scene early in the flick (and I do admit it is a fun scene), but the comic itself is fairly boring & pointless, unlike the Phantom Limbs comic that came w/ Sword of Storms.
Also on the DVD, is a Hellboy short called Iron Shoes. Its about a Red Cap (Irish Demon) who apparently wears Iron Shoes instead of a Cap dipped in the blood of his victims. Visually fun, but too short & pointless for my tastes.
Broom's flashbacks (yeah, I know that's not how to spell it) are also put in the correct chronological order & re-shown so you get the full picture of what his earlier encounter with the Vampire was like.
There is also commentary, but I don't care for that stuff, so I haven't listened to it.
Oh yeah, if you wait until the end of the credits, you're treated to a bit of a teaser about the next Hellboy Animated flick. Two words. Lobster Johnson!
