View Full Version : Hot Fuzz - The ... Wow... That Was A... Movie...
Two movies I've been excited about watching on their release dates was Hot Fuzz and 300. I've seen 300 in theaters, but I never got the opportunity to see Hot Fuzz. So, I rented it today.
I was entertained. It was awesome. But I don't want to call it a good movie for some reason. I mean - it had a good plot, over-the-top action sequences, and everybody loves British humor... but... it was more an "OMFGWTF" movie.
Ninja deli workers? Really bad Shakespeare plays? It's like an action movie gone wrong... but gone right at the same time.
I don't know. But I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see it, though it is... kinda... "graphic" in places.

I really liked it, but the more times I watch it, the more I think that they were waaaay too serious during the build-up before that massive action sequence.

Graphic? Wha?
This is a movie that was great on second viewing because it wasn't in a theater full of idiots that were the definition of idiots.
Still, it was a good example of how much the creators loved action movies and the cliches therein, but like Sean of the Dead they love the source material a tad too much at points. There were parts that were rife with satire-material but merely played like standard fare, made all the more jarring by the fact that the scenes preceding and following were usually laden with jokes.
Still, I think it's the definition of a 'fun movie'.
Graphic? Wha?
That one scene where the guy gets the church steeple dropped on his head? That one scene where the guy gets the model spike through his lower jaw? Those were a bit graphic.

Hmm, I guess...I dunno, I guess I've been desensitized to acts of 'outlandish bodily harm', I saw those as further examples of typical action ridiculousness.
Another thing to note, I do like the rapid action editing and such they utilized, even for the most absolute mundane of actions (riding the train, paying at the register). I read an interview where the director commented on how most comedies were statically filmed and he wanted to switch it up, and I think he succeeded with flying colors.

I loved this movie. Yeah, the rapid-action stuff was great, like in Shaun of the Dead.

Yeah, I found myself at times wanting more jokes, but the climax made up for it, at least somewhat.

I still want to see this movie, if only because the priest in the commercials for it looks like the one from the church 5 mins from my house.
Not sure if it's out where I am yet though...
