Using a really handy freeware tool named WinDirStat you can search your hard drive for what exactly is taking up all your space. The upside is it shows you in a colorful box pattern so you can see in literal size just what is taking all your space. You can find the program here.

So it got me to thinking, what does YOUR hard drive look like? This is mine.

(Its a little worse but not bad enough that I need to do something about it.)

Ah hah, this is interesting, and even a little enlightening to see what is taking up my hard drive.
First off I'd like to start with the general image:

but then I decided to go and highlight the main (or notable areas)

I... I don't know what to say. apparently video files(aka, episodes of FMA, as well as some other series) are taking over my computer. The amount of space that The Sims takes up isn't surprising, I am shocked to see that just music from Vic Mignogna has a space big enough to write on. I need to delete Ragnarok Online (it's taking up too much space), and I was surprised to see a big chunk of Master of Orion III. I've never even played that game!
But fear not, if you think my hard drive is crazy. I didn't get a screenshot, but in comparison to the total amount of free space I have left, all of that is just a little chunk of memory. (I have much much memory in my hard drive)

Hmm... Looks like I need to A) get more drives and B) clean up my main drive. There should be more space on that one...

My laptop hard drive (what's this Diskeeper thing you refer to?)

I'm gonna clear out quite a bit of space, now that I can see what's wasting it.
My portable hard drive, much less used. And only 512MB of space total.

Just for comic relief. :sweatdrop

This would be Diskeeper. (http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp) Not only is it a decent defragmentor it also helps prevent fragmentation in the first place. Plus the pay version has a feature which can really speed up drive response times.

GW only needs the client (your executable), the temp file, and the data file. Keep in mind that the latter grows as you download more content (skill icons, new areas, models, etc. as applicable), and this is definitely true recently for the preparations for GW:EN. So, while it seems like "just three files," it's actually a lot more.

Here's mine:

C:\ Drive (63.9 Gigs used, 12.4 Gigs free)
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/fencershinryuu/harddrivemap2.png
E:\ Drive (27 Gigs used, 1.6 Gigs free)
FYIs: Monster is an awesome anime you all should watch, The Real Ghostbusters is the cartoon from the late 80's/early 90's (I've got the first two seasons there), and that's the first 20 episodes of Extreme Ghostbusters there as well. Also, that yellow band below my music block on my C:\ drive? That's the pdfs of the Heroes Online "Novels". Oh, and those particularly large mp3s on the bottom of my E:\ drive there? The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy radio drama mp3s.
And yes, I have a lot of mp3s (and oggs). And please, pay no attention to that third area on my E:\ drive...

mine probably looks like a lot of dust and 4-year-old parts.

MINE SUCKS! a 2GB hard drive with XP on it... an ancient system, but we gots no moneyto replace it. I dont have Win2000 and if i got windows 98, i wouldn't have internet due to the fact im running on a USB 1.0 WLAN and runs on a 600 mhz processor. I cant attach mine though.. having some issues at the moment. my graphics card (Intel 82810E) went and damaged my graphics capabilities...

(Thank god for Diskeeper.)Actually, I'm looking at my result, and the fragmentation state of the harddrive has nothing to do with the map generated. It seems to order the blocks from largest to smallest, nesting subdirectories and subfiles in the larger root folders. So, It'd order, say "Documents and Settings" before "Program Files" if the former was larger than the latter, then it'd order the larger directories within "Documents and Settings" first, and then the largest subdirectory, etc. Then it seems to go from the largest to the smallest file.
Also of note is that it views the files in a folder with other subfolders in it as thier own subfolder, named <files>.
Anyway, if the map looks disorganized, it just means you need to organize your files (like I have all my music in the "My Music" folder in "My Documents").

Confess!!!My porn is on several well-labeled CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. Less likely for it to be destroyed by viruses that way.
