Why is watching TV shows on DVDs just so much better than watching it normally?

I've just got Eureka on DVD (cracking show, really enjoying it) and have seen the first few episodes, and shows that would have been on for an hour, now only takes forty minutes. It's gotten to the point where I get annoyed at having to fast forward through all the adverts.

On a slightly related note, I had seen that Heroes was starting on BBC this Wednesday, and that also lasts for forty minutes. Thank god the BBC doesn't have to have any adverts in it's shows (although, it still feels obliged to show the news midway through a movie...)

Do you get annoyed when watching shows on the DVD? Would you rather wait for the DVD release so you don't suffer from the adverts?

Programs on DVD are awesome, no ifs, ands or buts. I've got a small collection of shows on DVD, and a slowly growing list of shows I need to get. Everything from Doctor Who seasons 1+2 , Prison Break 1, Supernatural 1, Rome 1, all 5 seasons of Alias, Firefly, Lost 1+2, Life on Mars 1+2, and I intend to get the next seasons of each of these, as well as a load of other stuff when it comes out/when I find the time to get and watch them/when I can finally find all 7 seasons of Buffy/all 5 seasons of Angel and get them all in a single swoop.

And from what I hear of Heroes I will most likely be adding that to my collection as well.

So yes, DVDs = teh awesomeness!

Everything from Doctor Who seasons 1+2

New Who, or classic Who? I ask merely out of curiosity. I have a ton of classic Who on VHS, which is nearly as good (especially as the tapes were free). I mean, the format sucks, yes, but the awesomeness of the classic Who very nearly atones for it.

I have the Monty Python 16-Ton Megaset, which is fantastic. I only wish there were fewer cuts in it for things like content (like the "golf, strangling animals, and masturbation" gag from the Summarizing Proust contest). I've heard that versions without those cuts exist somewhere (something to do with the Pythons owning their own material), but are not commerically available. Pity.

New series only I'm afraid. I barely remember seeing the odd re-showing of older episodes from about a decade or more ago, so no way in hell am I going to start even attemtping to play catch up with everything now. The new series was the first time propper I had seen DW, so I'll start from there.

Well, if you ever have the chance, at least catch one or two stories from each Doctor--the eps I've seen are great! (Although I haven't got any from the First or Second Doctors, and I've only gotten through Pertwee--my avvy!--and some of Tom Baker.)

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: also great on DVD where you can almost overdose on a whole season or so at once ^_^ .

I don't even watch regular TV anymore because of innanity, advertisements, and generally nothing worth watching on. If I really want to see it, there's youtube or video rental stores.

It's odd, but I still like watching TV shows I own on DVD just on the channels, intact with commercials and everything. I don't pay attention to the commercials, but I like to have a break to wander around/grab something to eat/find something else for me to fiddle with where I don't have to worry about missing anything. (I know I can pause it, but I don't like doing that either)

Of course, if a show has been taken out of syndication entirely, then I watch it on DVD without any problems.
