So basically the deal is I have a belkin G MIMO wireless router and one desktop with a USB wireless receiver and a laptop with a wireless card and Bitlord on the laptop for downloading bittorrents but any time I try to download a bittorrent it slows the fuck out of my connection to the point where I can't do anything on either computer, regardless of the speed of any download I happen to have running in BL. I've used uTorrent in the past and run into the same problem. So if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this / how to fix it I should be most appreciative of any assistance.

Have you limited your bandwidth as well as your allowed number of connections? If you have your bittorrent program set to allow unlimited or some stupid high number of connections it will just keep looking for more connections to fill all of the slots, even if the person is just queuing you you still use bandwidth to maintain that connection. Wireless is already slow, downloading mass files is even slower and then add the increased load and you're looking at a snail outrunning your loading pace.

Do you limit your maximum upload speed?

Totally, in any case even when I let it run unlimited it never seems to get prohibitively high.

Demetrius's answer sounds like the right track, I found the max connections limit and set that to like, 20, so we'll see if that solves the problem.
