View Full Version : The Quest for the Final Summoning Discussion

There, now you can discuss certain matters about the RP all you want here. (well, keep it reasonable though. ^_^ )

Reasonable? That's no fun!

Biran
02-17-2004, 07:24 PM
Ok, I just have a quick question. Are we all basically going to be Raine's guardians? Because I have a feeling that Stewie is going to be left behind fast.

CelesJessa
02-17-2004, 07:26 PM
Reasonable? That's no fun!

Well, I mean reasonable by not having 10 page arguments about if the sword should be blue rather than white. (just an exaggerated example)

I'm not sure about the Stewie question... it's not completely up to me. it's up to you guys as well, because it wasn't originally my RP, so it's your choice if you want to join me or wait up for Stewie.

the only problem is stewie is barely on

Any one opposed to having a sphere grid to keep people honest?

Biran
02-17-2004, 08:20 PM
...

How would we use a sphere grid? Don't get me wrong, I thought it made it a lot easier to specialize your character in the game, I just don't see how you would use it in the RP.

Technal
02-17-2004, 08:22 PM
yeah those suck hard core. So add one to opposed

Truce
02-17-2004, 08:23 PM
Sphere grids are okay. However, it would be pointless to set one up, because we'd have to add a whole new system.

Besides...it would ruin the surprise of my char's abilities.

02-17-2004, 08:29 PM
Meh, I vote against the sphere grid idea by a hair because I don't think any of our characters will be changing abilities in the middle of the RP. Otherwise I would wouldn't have been able to choose that easily.

Truce
02-17-2004, 08:32 PM
Do you really expect me to do something like that? No, I've got something planned to pop up sometime at a specific point of the journey.

That reminds me. Celes, I'll PM you about it soon, even though it won't be happening for a while.

Should I just quit the whole Stewie guardian and join you guys? It doesnt matter much...I don't think...

And did gotta-have-a-gunblade guy finally give it up?

Forever Zero
02-17-2004, 09:27 PM
I think he logged off. We can only hope he gave up, cause I don't think anyone thinks a Gunblade should be in this RP...

And as for the Sphere Grid, I vote no. I don't care what others said, I thought it needlessly complicated a simple process, and I hate the Sphere Grid system with a passion. Give me back the old days of FFVI and FFVII where when you level, all stat manegment is handled for you. When I want to stat crunch, I'll power up Baldur's Gate or Morrowind or one of my non-FF RPGs and crunch those stats for maximum effect.

Stover
02-17-2004, 09:30 PM
Gunblades shouldn't have existed in the first place. But the real question here is: What are sphere grids? I never played FFX2, considering I don't have a PS2, so I sorta missed this...

Forever Zero
02-17-2004, 09:33 PM
It was in FFX1 as well, and it was a mess. You baiscally beat enemies and get "Spheres" like Power or Magic. Then you move a little cursor around basically a giant board, and as the cursor moves across the board (Moving one space per level you get, when you want to apply the levels), you use the spheres you colllected to activate your stat increases, like if you pass over a +4 strength space, you could use a power sphere to activate it. Like I said, it needlessly complicated a simple process, in my opinion.

Rhuhael
02-17-2004, 09:37 PM
This is true considering that most of the regular players got pissed and went out to buy the strategy guides to get the best combination. Me I just got pissed and stopped playing about a week after where you are.

Bite the Wax Tadpole
02-17-2004, 09:37 PM
They used Garment Grids and Dress Spheres in FFX-2 (which I personally think is a great way for leveling and the such). No Sphere Grid here, it was kinda complicated in the game, wouldn't make any sense RP-wise.

Garment grids and Dress Spheres?

Dress spheres= Classes (basically everything, from warriors to Black/White Mages, to Songstresses *can inflict can't miss staus effects*, to berserkers, to samurai...)

Garment Grids= Holding spots for the dress spheres. If you wanna change classes mid battles ya just 'spherechange' as long as its connected (all of them are connected by lines, if your new class is one line away, BAM')

Mr. Viewtiful
02-17-2004, 11:27 PM
Yo, all.

I know Ecurt's plan! He was just telling me that his evil plan is to use his character's 'GameShark' skill to hack the data of everyone else's characters so when they 'level up,' he gets the stats instead! It's a very evil plan! We be DOOMed!

As far as the sphere grid thing goes...I vote 'no,' because I never played FFX, so it would confuse me even more than others.

(Note: If you took what I said about the GameShark seriously...I feel sorry for you. j/k :D)

I can't help here, my copy of FFX-2 is sitting collecting dust until I beat FFX.

Bwah, fear my awesome FF gaming-ness. I've already beaten FFX several times and FFX-2 (it's collecting dust until I get around to finishing the 100% perfect game though... I didn't really like X-2 that much)
I can't help it. I did like FFX a lot. ^^ So sue me, I know a lot of people didn't like it as much as some of the others.
As a matter of fact, I just started a new game in FFX so I can try and stay closer to being accurate for the RP (and since the RP started, I've wanted to re-start the game. ^_^ )
But it's hard to think of something cool for the Fayth to say to Raine while she's in the Chamber of the Fayth... ^^;;
It's getting late now, and I'm just catching up on everything before I go to bed if I can, but I promise I'll post when Raine is in the Chamber of the Fayth tomarrow as soon as I come home from school at the latest. ^_^

EDIT: And I don't think we really need a sphere grid. I trust everyone to not God mode... or else they will suffer the consequences... mua ha ha!

Tenjin Matsukaru
02-18-2004, 03:53 AM
I finially belong to a discussion thread *sniff* I feel so proud... Ok sorry about that little rant of insanity. Personally the whole sphere grid idea wouldn't work unless this was a purely stat based RP and this RP unless I am completely mistaken isn't completely stat based.

Mr. Viewtiful
02-18-2004, 08:11 PM
Heck, I think we don't have any stats to speak of...

So, what are the chances of an FFX RP Omake thread happening?

Forever Zero
02-18-2004, 08:17 PM
Do we need one? The last post you put in the FF Omake is pretty close to a crossover... (Oh, and I never congratulated you in my quest for vengence. Very nice job on the Omake, I especially like the past summons complaining about the new ones, and anything including Ramuh is comedic gold, since I always like Ramuh more then the other summons that have replaced him. Very nice job, I give out a gold plated "Brilliant!" to you!)

Well, it appears to be a humor thingy...

Mr. Viewtiful
02-18-2004, 08:41 PM
Well, it went like this:

Ecurt PMed me (Mr. V) about an idea for a 'blooper reel' for his RP, the original Final Fantasy RP, calling it an 'Omake.' Being the sucker I am for good comedy, I said "I'm in," and he posted a thread in which we take the RP characters and put them in hilarious situations, or even invent new characters (Like Thumpman!).

If you'd like to see some of our earlier works, check the website in my sig. I'll update soon witht he newer ones, but until then check out the Omake Thread #3. It's awesome!

CelesJessa
02-18-2004, 10:26 PM
I don't mind somebody making an Omake, If you wanna make one, go ahead. ^^ I'm busy worrying about what's gonna happen in the actual RP (and being lazy by playing FFX all over again... ^^;; ) So if somebody makes the thread, I won't be opposed.

Also, question:
I was expecting them to have a celebration, kinda like Yuna did, but I was thinking maybe it would make more sense if they did the celebration in her hometown, since that's the next step. What do you guys think?

Also, how long do you think it probably took them in there?

Rhuhael
02-18-2004, 10:35 PM
I think that's a good idea and I'm guessing it probably took them about three days to get to the next town from besaid.

IHateMakingNames

I think skipping from you getting the Aeon to a party on a different island is to much of a big skip... (Especially since it would make several people just be stalkers, and who should have been beaten up by your guardians)

Biran
02-18-2004, 10:39 PM
I don't really think it matters where we have the celebration, but it would make sense to have it in her hometown. (Raine comes back with new aeon, mother is happy and other villagers, too, all celebrate.)

I'm not quite sure how much time we should say they took because for Yuna, she was in there for like 8 hours, but Tidus just walked there in about 5 mins. (Depending how good you are, but come on!) I would probably say it took everyone about an hour or two.

FIRST FFX: RP OMAKE!! W00T! W00T! (Eh, sorry if this sucks; it's my first time actually using my brain to think of humor.)

Ummm... Oops?

While Raine and company are wondering through a dense forest, they encounter a large Malboro.

Zeke: Ha! This'll be a piece of cake!
Brian: *in unenthusiastic voice* Err... Ah... Ya. Piece of cake.
Mitsu: Do not underestimate your - *All of the party is wiped out by a swing of Malboro's tentacle, except Raine, the only one actually paying attention to the battle.*
Raine: *Looks at fallen comrades, then back at Malboro* Ok, Malboro, we can do this two ways. The easy way, *eyes go to slits* or the Raine way. *Malboro tries to swat at Raine but misses pathetically*
Raine: You asked for it! Aeon, help me defeat my enemy! *Concentrates hard and calls forth an aeon*
*bright light appears, suddenly a figure comes into view*
*figure is... VIVI!*
Vivi: o.O
Raine: O.o
Malboro: o.O
Vivi: ...

Malboro: ...
Raine: Well, ATTACK!!!
Vivi: ...
Raine: Come on, there's gotta be something you can do!

Raine: Swordsmanship?

Raine: White magic?
Vivi: ...
Raine: *sounding desparate* Stealing? Blue magic? Martial arts? Destructive spells of doom?
Vivi: Ummm... Well, I think I can do that last one...
Raine: Well, come on, then!
Vivi: Are you sure?
Raine: YES!!!
Vivi: Ok... *casts Doomsday*
*Clouds go black, gets hard to see, Vivi disappears*
Raine: What the - *suddenly falls down dead from mysterious shadow forces, Malboro, too*
*Clouds clear, massive wasteland where forest used to be*
*Suddenly a bright light appears over Raine*
Raine: *Gets back up* Remember kids, this is why you always learn Auto-Life as soon as you can.

This is my first time, so I'm open to any constructive critism.

Well I had this happen in my last FFX game.

[They make their way through Sin, eventually reaching a staircase. They climb up it, confronting the blue-haired bastard himself. Seymour laughs]

Tidus
"Don't you ever give up?"

Seymour
"Sin has chosen me."
"I am part of Sin. I am one with Sin, forever."
"Immortal!"

Tidus
"Sin just absorbed you."
Seymour
"I will learn to control it, from within. I have all the time in the world."
"Since you were gracious enough to dispose of Yunalesca..."
[He begins to transform, as his voice sounds more metallic]
"the only means of destroying Sin is forever gone."
"Now nothing can stop us!"

Tidus
"Well, we can!"

Seymour
"By all means, try!"
"You should thank me. Your death means your father's life!"

*Tidus bitchslaps Seymour. Seymour starts to bleed pyreflys after one hit.*

Me: BURN! Your ass got burned! Burn! Dude! Burn!

Seymour
"No!"

Wakka
"Now! Yuna, send him!"

Yuna
"Right!"

[She steps forward and begins to send him]

Seymour
"So it is you, after all, who will send me."
"But even after I am gone, Spira's sorrow will prevail."

[A bright beam of light appears on him, and he gets sent. Dozens upon dozens of pyreflies depart and fly upwards from where his body once was]

Tidus
"Sin will be right behind you."

From the RP:
OOC: Yes it is... Never thought about it that way, but it is people basically hoping the summoners go die.

And I still haven't picked a real personality for Rei yet... (Suggestions?)(This isn't my character at all...)

Experimental magic works by combining the black magic spells Mitsu knows. Each level of experimentation allows him to combine more spells. It would work Like this.

Besaid: 2 combinations
Luca: 3 Combinations
Macalania: 4 combinations
Gagazet: 5 combinations.

Each combination will make a new spell. I'll Think of some and post them here later.

Forever Zero

How about some random opposing summoner that pops up, and ends up traveling withour group for whatever reason? Allows him to randomly join up, and leave when he feels it is time to go back on his own journey. Of course that would require he makes NPC guardians, so that may not work. The other thing I could suggest is a mercenary guardian like my guy used to be, only he still is, and he offers to join us until he gets where he needs to go, then leaves.

Of course, a random Al-Bhed would also work well from a villian standpoint. Spends a chapter or two trying to capture us, then something happens and he goes away or is killed.

CelesJessa
02-22-2004, 04:12 PM

Mr. Viewtiful

Just for fun, I'll make him speak like one of the GLA guys from C&C Generals -

"AHA! Now you are mine at last, Raine... but first, I must adjust the turban! Damn things traps sand..."

"By the almighty power vested in me, spirits of the sand, aegis of the wastes, be unto me - BAHAMUT!"

*Widdle chibi dragon with a ribbon pops out*

"What the f-"

*Piece of paper pops out*

"Hmm... let's see... "For not fulfilling the contract of paying your stipend of 5000 gil epr month, the Council of Summoned Monsters has decided to downgrade your status from Grade A Superfine Customer to Class F Deadbeat Stiffmaster. As a result, you get Bahamut-chan instead of Bahamut ZERO.

Mook A: "He has to PAY his summoned monsters?"

Raine is the Summoner, aka, me. ^_^;; So you know how Al Bhed are trying to stop summoners on their pilgrimage, you could kidnap her and try and stop her... or something like that.

Mr. Viewtiful

Or you could talk like the technician dudes from the original C&C.

"Yeah? Okay. Yeah? Okay. Yeah? Okay." etc.

And if Bahamut does that...I'll laugh my head off *imagines it in FF7*

Oooh I know. Maybe Dante could bring his ship in and pretend it's the boat we're supposed to be on, and Raine could get on by herself and then he'd try to take off without the Guardians, but they would take anotehr boat and chase him down, or catch up before he gets too far off of the shore and they could jump off of the dock and swim after the boat and save Raine...

or I dunno... any other ideas?

Could be closer to the time in RPG World where they accidently summon the intern instead of the full summon.

SMNR: I summon the power of... Bahamaut!

*There is a flash, and a small, green, wimpy looking dragon is sitting there*

SMNR: Who are you?

Bob: I'm... umm... Bob. I'm an intern under Mr. Bahamaut to become a full fledged summon.

SMNR: Well, what's your overdrive attack? I need something to whup this boss with!

Bob: Umm... I can cook coffee in 1.2 seconds? It's pretty good to.

SMNR: ... I hate my life...

Hmm... I think I have it...

"I am Gogandantess, greatest summoner of all Spira... and YOU, Raine have NO right to defeat Sin! If you surrender now and meekly serve ME, I MIGHT consider sparing your life and permit you to live as a serving girl in my employ..."

Everyone: "Get bent, freak!"

G: "You DARE call me a FREAK? No matter! I will show you my TRUE power!"

(Dantess pulls out a red and white ball from his robe)

G: "MEWTWO! I choose you!"

(Ball bursts open in a brilliant display of light, and the awesome psychic Pokemon is revealed)

G: AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! NOW! KILL THEM ALL - Uh, I mean, hurt them pretty bad and bring Raine to me!

M: (Does nothing)

G: HEY! Hurt them! Or something! Don't just stand there!

(Starts stamping up and down)

M: (mechanically) Hi, this is Mewtwo's holographic voice message system. Mewtwo can't come to the battle now because he's in Las Vegas playing the tables and picking up the laaaayyyydayyz. Please your message at the tone.

G: "MEWTWO YOU GOD*BEEP* SON OF A *BEEP* *BEEP*SUCKING MOTHER*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP**BEEP* *BEEP*(The rest of this message censored)"

I was figuring this is the beginning, so we are facing weak sinspawn. Tidus could kill the Zanarkind type ones in two or three hits, and Auron I thought could kill them in one or two. Besides, aren't a few of those you listed like mini-bosses? I know at least one was one you fight as Zanarkind as some sort of mini-boss...

Well, if I'm reading it correctly, the tentacle is the true sinspawn, the rest are just those little filler types that you have to deal with...and I like the rougue Al-Bhed idea for Dante, cuz unless one of you wants to die, the two summoners-one group would be awkward.

Agreed, Biran.

Anyways, I can volunteer my guy (Drake the human dragoon!) for the "guardian who always hides in the tree making sure the summoner doesn't get killed" part-time, seeing as his proficiency at jumping all over the place while keeping quiet.

We should let Ripel and Raine (appear to) have an alone moment, because I think they gots a plan, and we'd be pretty unfair players if we didn't let them do it...

*zap* LIVE THREAD, LIVE!

Yes, it's a late comer. That's been mostly approved by CJ.

Name: Uran
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Race: Human
Job: Trainer of sorts...
Place of birth: ???
Blitzer?: No
Short Bio: He was a random kid, slightly more empathetical than everyone else, but still pretty tame. Then he stumbled one a clutch of tiny eggs, and started looking after them. They hatched into miniature dragons. Ten of them. That formed a psychic link with him. Now 19, they're still there. All 10. They're exactly like dragons, but only the size of his forearm. And they can teleport. They've proven invaluable for Uran. And he wanders whenever he feels the need. It's been the story of his life.
Appearance: Remember what Sam dressed like in Fellowship? Basically that (no cloak) just not as fancy. His shortsword is there too.
Equipment: Food for his firelizards, and all that good stuff.
Extra: His lizards almost act as an extension of himself. And he wuvs them soo much.

I could see Drake getting along with this guy, seeing that Dragoons like non-hostile dragons...that's how he learned Fire Breath, after all :D

And my guy is a human dragoon, which (correct me if I'm wrong) wasn't in FFX. I don't see anything wrong with SS's guy...except maybe teleporting, but that ain't my decision to make.

Teleporting lizards actually seems pretty cool...I like it ;)

No, but there were still dragoon type people/abilities, so you character isn't that far off from standard FF type classes. SS's char doesn't apply to ANY FF class I know about... And don't quote the Animal Tamer style classes, because they had to tame monsters the enountered, and could only have one or two at a time, and because then I'm going to say, you have ten teleporting dragons. Nuff said in the overpowered department...

I agree with Jad, just pick a game ability, everyone else did, so can you.

If I was SS, I would make the amount of dragons 2 or 3, and cut the telepathic link and teleporting stuff. Then again, Celes should be the one to finalize this.

Darth SS
02-29-2004, 12:03 AM
Was just talking to Celes, and the current changes have been made.

10 is gone.

He now has 7 (lucky number)

You seem to forget...THEY'RE THE SIZE OF HIS FOREARM. And he's not the biggest guy, so...

He's not gonna' be running aruond swinging massive dragon legions around. He's got 7 Fire Lizards (which are a dying race. Kudos to CJ for that) that follow him around.

IHateMakingNames
02-29-2004, 12:06 AM
Do they still teleport and telepathic link?

Darth SS
02-29-2004, 12:12 AM
Yes.

I'll trim the teleport ranger down to 10' (These are based on the guys from Dragonsong, and I've actually toned them down a lot in comparison to that)

And the telepathic link is kinda' subconscious. He'll say get me some spearmint, and the dragon will know from him where it is. This isn't shooting messages and stuff.

IHateMakingNames
02-29-2004, 12:14 AM
A couple of those seven little dragons would probably die (Even though they can telelport, though I've never heard of teleporting dragons). Large numbers+weak things = Dead things.

Edit - Though I doubt that will happen to your little dragons, since they seem so special...

Bite the Wax Tadpole
02-29-2004, 12:36 AM
Well, as long as they don't pull a Voltron...and assuming their fire breath was reletively relative to their size (meaning no flamethrowers from a single one)...I could see it, but what side are you joining...and how are you joining (the current 'good' group is kinda hard to befriend)

Forever Zero
02-29-2004, 12:44 AM
That is because the current 'good' group is higly suspicious of Ripel, and practically everyone not in the 'good' group now has a link to Ripel, so it might be best to join the other group SS...

I find it funny that they're so suspicious of little ol' Ripel. Drake, for example, has jumped the gun and even claimed that he heard Ripel say he had a plan for Raine, which he had just imagined. That was after spying on him as well. Tsk tsk. :D

Are you saying if somebody out of the blue came up to a girl in your life and casually mentioned something he had no business knowing you wouldn't be suspicious of them.

Mr. Viewtiful
02-29-2004, 02:13 PM
Ecurt-I'm just being in-character. Anything wrong with that? And, lookee here:
"My, dnihi ayo ehi. U'fi piir zeudurk, ert ud'm kirihecca ryd e kyyt ulbhimmuyr dy legi myliyri zeud. Ed'c jano ihbnuvacceuhym. Huf kad ib! Canjac oui nekrd vun paehk tnihg."
Which is what Ripel spoke to a certain Zeta, which replied:
"Hiya Ripel. Sorry, but I have had the scavange from Hell. So, did the whole Besaid thing went well I assume. So is that...uhm...whats her name...whatever, I assume that the whole plan has been set in motion, right?"
All of this Drake could hear from his perch on the rooftop. So, since Ripel is a suspicious character, he obviously would jummp the gun, but he has a good reason to.

Truce
02-29-2004, 03:56 PM
First off, your character cannot speak Al Bhed (as far as I can recall), which is why they were speaking in that language. Your character would not have known what they were talking about. Nor did it specifically say that the girl had to do something with the Besaid thing (which, in truth, she hadn't truly been).

Anyway, I did do that to a girl once (tell her things she thought I couldn't have known, pretending I was all mystic and stuff). She then kept asking me how I knew or who told until I said I went to elementary school with her a few grades (we hadn't seen eachother for years, and I almost didn't remember myself). It was funny. of course, you haven't even questioned Ripel on how he knows, so you're all still making assumptions.

Besides, all he has revealed was that he knew where Raine was from, right (honestly, I can't remember)? It's not exactly that hard, Summoner's are often talked about and all.

Anyway. He also never specifically asked her to go with him to somewhere alone, and once off the boat he did not pester any of you guys. Also, what's a suspect amount of interest? Talking with someone? Trying to help him or her have fun?

I'll admit, the mentioning of the Sinspawn was suspicious, and Ripel is a suspicious person. I'm not saying you shouldn't be hesitant, I'm simply saying that I find it funny they're all so hostile.

Forever Zero
02-29-2004, 04:04 PM
Our characters are Guardians, it's our job to be overprotective. And it's probably increased by the fact that in the guardians eyes, Raine is acting naive when Ripel has been highly suspicious, so the sense that they are the only things protecting her from him is just multiplied.

IHateMakingNames
02-29-2004, 04:13 PM
He can't speak Al-Bhed, but what Ripel said isn't the important part, but what Zita said back to Ripel.

I forgot, but I'm pretty sure you mentioned her mother or something.

And your guy acts to happy, and that is always suspecious. Especially since he goes from happy to serious back to happy randomly.

And let's not forgot about how he was 'admiring' new summoners, then never mentioned that he is a summoner before the time he summoned the dark Valefor.

And the rest is out of RP, since we all know Ripel is going to die and is one big contradiction and is going to try to do something to Raine.

Truce
02-29-2004, 04:32 PM
Zita. He never did say Raine had to do anything with the plan, he just happened to ask about Raine before mentioning the business in Besaid. Drake just assumed that the things were connected.

The mother...of course. Yeah, that's right. He was thinking in his head at the time I believe, so of course they knew about that.

Contradiction to FFX? Heh, I doubt it. I don't like doing things unless they can reasonably be explained (Quiet Mr. V! I know what you're going to say, and real life does not count in here). Oh, and I said he'll probably die, but remember he won't go down without a fight. He may end up killing a few other PCs, and probably the ones who piss him off.

As for the summon...yes, that was suspicious, though noone's asked about that yet, except if he was a summoner, and he replied he wasn't on a pilgrimage. As for the admiring of summoners, everybody does that, afterall, people do support those who they believe would be their saviours.

FZ-Yup. I pretty much understand that. Still, they haven't really been direct with their questions to Ripel. I'd expect at least one of them to try and interrogate him.

IHateMakingNames
02-29-2004, 04:33 PM
I'm pretty sure some one did ask you, and the question was ignored...

Edit - And I still suspect contradiction from the dark aeon, seeing as even Seymour didn't summon 'dark' versions of other aeons.

Truce
02-29-2004, 04:43 PM
Ask me? Hmm, well, I forgot about it then. I'm pretty sure only Raine asked me about him being a summoner.

As for the Dark Aeon summoning, I've got an explanation for that for later. I will tell you that it's not contradicting FFX in any way.

Forever Zero
02-29-2004, 04:44 PM
The trick about killing PCs is we can always be revived later... Where as villians can not... Oh, and even if you kill us, as long as our character's spirits are strong enough, we'll just come back to life, we'll just be undead after that...

Mr. Viewtiful
02-29-2004, 04:46 PM
Let's just hope your explanations make sense here...in real life, they're so confusing I don't even pay attention half of the time :D
