If you are lookin' for someplace to chat in real-time with us your pals on NPF then this here is the place to look.
For starters we have us a Nuklearpower Forums Yaplet (http://go.yaplet.com/?url=http://forum.nuklearpower.com/). Just click and pick a name and get you a'chatting. (If you want an un-framed view, click here (http://a1.yaplet.com/yap.php?pop=1&nobalance=1&channel=http://forum.nuklearpower.com/) instead.)
We also have an IRC chatroom, #8-bit.theater, server irc.efnet.net. For an installable chat client look at mIRC (http://www.mirc.com) or xchat (http://xchat.org/about/) for Windows or http://www.ircle.com or xchat aqua (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/) if you're a Mac fan. For a simple in-browser interface check out http://chat.efnet.info.
And if you're a fan of the AIM (http://www.aim.com/) then look us up in our room there, chat8bit. If you're not a fan of the aim but you still want to join in on chat8bit then I'm told a couple of nice alternatives are Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/) or Meebo.com (http://www.meebo.com).
And that's pretty much that!
Except for the list of people who don't want to be invited to chat! Post in this thread if you're one of them and wish to be on the list, post again if you want off the list. Then post again if you want back on. And so on.
If you're on the list and someone does invite you, feel free to inform us so we can give them a stern look or some negative rep.
Here's (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=11922) the old Do Not Invite thread for archiving purposes.

'm told a couple of nice alternatives are... Meebo.com (http://www.meebo.com).
If by "nice" you mean "barely functional", then yes.
Tip from a meebo-user! Sign up for a meebo account too. It keeps your away messages, and if you set your profile, even your default font, too.
And also be warned that KP uses a white font with a background, and backgrounds don't show up in meebo. So, you get a white font with a white background, which means highlighting.
And it sucks.
Also, depending on how many people are on meebo at a given time, it becomes basically unusable for chat purposes because the lag is so severe it will take upwards of 5 minutes for a message to go through.

I'd like to add that Ircle's features are rather limiting and force registration after 30 days. X-Chat (http://xchat.org/about/) provides a much better (and freer) IRC experience. For those with MacOSX, I recommend the Aqua version (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/). I'm not forcing this upon anyone, but it's the best non-windows client I've used thus far.
As for mIRC, it has the most features, scripts, and some of the best support available. If there were a cross-platform or open source version of it, I'd use it for sure.

And if you don't like the newer version of something (like AIM), grab an older version at Old Version (http://www.oldversion.com/).

Just making sure no one invites your avatar.
Alternatively, I accidentally copied the alt text for your avatar along with the name and didn't realize.
I'll fix it whenever.

GAIM (http://gaim.sf.net) should also be added to the list. Miranda IM is also another alternative, even if it is a bit junky.

Also, a note on Xchat: It's a wonderful and great program, but very taxing on servers. VERY taxing. It'll cause major lag if NPF isn't running on something beautifully powerful. :P

cause fifth asked me to post it here when I asked him if he'd like to add this to the main post here, heh...
Direct copy from the RaiRO forums:
Okay first off, this is a free server running off of my PERSONAL computer, so that means, if you jerk around with it, I don't HAVE to give you access.
The rules (because I want to keep things organized):
1. Similar to the forum rules, keep the insults, racial slurs and the like to an reasonable minimum (it's hard to tell if you're joking or not either ok?)
2. No exessive logging in or out (as everyone hear's "player logged in" whenever you do)
3. No Moaning, bitching, complaining, whining, etc. about the quality of the server. Hey! I don't have to give it to you, do I?
4. No complaining about the TS server Admin or TS Channel Moderator descisions. They are FINAL and non-negotiable. (see below for how to complain)
Server Info:
IP Address - 24.65.203.43
Password - Skill Spam
Instructions (for those of you who don't know how to use it yet):
Quick Run:
1. Install the Teamspeak Client that is found at http://www.goteamspeak.com/
2. Hit the Connection tab at the top, then "Quick Connect"
3. Type in my IP, put in the password, and enter a nickname
4. you're in.
Complete run:
1. See above
2. Hit the connection tab at the top, then Connect
3. Fill in the important fields (making sure to leave it set to Anonymous if you arent registered) and I do prefer it if you pick a nickname.
4. Name the Connection whatever you like, nobody's going to see it but you.
5. Hit Connect and you're in.
Contact me if you can't get in and I'll walk you through it.
Note that if you wish to regester to the server and keep your nickname/username as "taken" so that nobody else can use it, then you will have to either bother me when I am available to tell it to allow you to register or e-mail me with the desired username and password and I will make the user.
A note about channel admin and Server admin... if you feel that a descision is unjust, e-mail me. ONCE. Politely and I will see what I can do about it.
oh yes, and some examples because there are e-mails I will just y'know, delete without reading.
Good E-mail: "Hello, I am user ______ and have just been punished for insulting another user by admin ______, but I was just joking around. Nobody was serious. Can you do anything about this?"
This I'll respond to.
Bad E-mail: "ur server suks! some shitcock faggy asshole banned me for no reason at all!"
that = deleted. Got it?
Currently I have ZERO administrators (save me), and would prefer there to be at least one other so that problems can be dealt with while I'm not around. If you feel like you can take care of that, feel free to e-mail me and I'll see how things go from there. Again, follow the examples of e-mailing me above ok?
Please be aware that these rules may change. I'll let you know who your Administrators are when I know myself.
Admins:
Server - Rhino_Man
Channel - N/A
Information:
Advantages/Disadvantages of creating a username and registering to my server: you get to restrict your name, preventing most people from using yours (not much of a perk), you get to make your own channels, though they do get deleted when everyone leaves them. You can add passwords to your channel. You can set yourself to be "channel commander" which essentially makes your icon go red (for video game use)
About Nicknames: I'd like it if people would avoid using the default nicknames since they're currently set to guest, guest1, guest2, etc. It makes it difficult to tell who is who.
Contacting Me: don't get fed up if I don't respond when you try to contact me, I have a life y'know.
okie, have fun with that.
EDIT: Due to weather concerns (the heat) my server must be shut down to avoid heat stroke... I sleep in the same room as my server cause I like hearing when it fucks up on me. Since it's off, that means no server, I'll remove this note when it goes back up again.

I'm having problems with Yaplet, can anyone else get on? I just updated Firefox to 2.0.0.4 if that helps.

I have never ever been able to get on Yaplet with Firefox. 1.0.6 here, but I figured it was just incompatible generally.

I was always able to get on to Yaplet before, but I couldn't yesterday. I don't use Firefox, so I don't think that's the issue here.

I've tried with IE and Opera, and neither are working. So I think we can confirm that it isn't a browser problem.

I haven't been able to get on it, and yesterday, it looked like no other channels were working. Today, the main channel looks like it's working, but it refreshes every hour or two. Matt says that the server has crashed, and that he's waiting for GoDaddy to reboot it. No clue how long that might take, but if I find out, I'll bring the news here.

Is Yaplet broken for anyone else?
It loads but the chat area is blank, not even the the welcome to Yaplet message comes up and it doesn't seem to actually receive anything. The number of people online has a # instead of the 0 you get when no one is on.

Same deal is going on at the main yaplet channel, so it might be a problem with the servers or something. I'll send an email to try and figure it out.

Something really fucked happened to yaplet, and doppler and I have no clue why, but for some reason, this (http://a4.yaplet.com/yap.php?nobalance=1&title=Nuklear_Yaplet&css=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.com%2Fsnch3j1b%2Fte stlet.css&channel=http//forum.nuklearpower.com/) works because of a change in the url, only in the windowed form, but the standard yaplet link doesn't work at all. Until someone smarter than me can figure this out, I guess the only place to get your fix is in the above link.

Ha! For the longest time I've been talking to myself, wondering why none of the other 7 people "online" were talking.

The refresh button is your friend. If no welcoming message shows up, then you've got a problem.
Edit: As posted here (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=26462), problem solved.

Is it just me, or is the irc room only allowing REALLY short nicks?
Mike McC
05-08-2008, 01:21 AM
That's EFnet. It only allows a max of 9 character nicknames on the entire network. It's horrible, but at the very least the network's so decentralized it's really hard to take EFNet down for any extended amount of time.
Hey, I got a word of advice for all you people out there. If noone stays in the chatrooms, then noone stays in the chatrooms! Which means, the chatroom doesn't get more people in it if people leave right away because it's empty! Don't be afraid to idle some, wait for some activity a bit, because chances are, resource wise, leaving the chat window isn't going to be the straw that breaks your computer's back.
Chats don't get going when people spend a grand total of 36 seconds before splitting again. Which is particularly annoying when someone else used that time to get a drink.
Hey Forum,
Today and Yesterday I've been pretty pumped as far as graphic design goes; so here's a new Yaplet look.
True Nuklear Yaplet (http://go.yaplet.com/?css=http://www.freewebs.com/snch3j1b/testlet.css&yapletlogo=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Snch3j1b/secret/thFaplet_BIG_2.png&url=http://forum.nuklearpower.com/)
It's mainly just a change up top, but I like it. I was considering making the basic palette nothing but shades of yellow... maybe someday.
