What is the first Anime you remember seeing.

I remember the show that would watch religously was Samurai Pizza Cats. Back in the heyday, I thought it was awesome.

Probably Pokemon, but that doesn't count.

Otherwise, the bad versions of Vision of Escaflowne and CCS. I've managed to get the first in it's original form, which is so much better :D

Little nemo when I was 5 or 6. Not counting various games I played based on Anime or using designs similar to it, which would be even earlier.

Iria: Zeriam the Animation (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xm7d3HX7gkY), on Sci-fi back in the hey-day.

I would like to see that movie again, if for nothing but old times sake.

Voltron. The first anime I watched knowing it was anime (and what anime is) was Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy:_Legends_of_the_Crystals).

It was either Speed Racer or a show called Monkey Magic.

It was either Speed Racer, Samurai Pizza Cats, or Megaman, possibly the american one...so I don't think know if that last one counts as an anime.

Watching Samurai Pizza Cats right now :)

First anime I remember? Fist of the North Star... I was half asleep during the Kenshiro/Raoh throwdown at the end, and somehow, I can remember every moment of watching it perfectly.

You know I think it might have been Speed Racer

Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer, Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I remember seeing Transformers: Beast Wars. I really don't think that'll count, though. The first anime I watched was Dragonball Z. I'd watch it everyday back when Toonami was on weekly.Back when it was a huge fad. Personally, I really regret ever liking the show, but being the little child of an artist, I always drew DBZ stuff during class...

Afterwards, I started seeing Ronin Warriors (which was okay, but then got cancelled rather quickly..) and then Cowboy Bebop.

I remember Transformers, Voltron, Captain Harlock, Dragon Ball, and Dragon Quest (I liked it but it was short lived). But I remember Robotech before all that.

Voltron was my first. The first I can really remember getting into was DBZ (yeah, yeah). Also, I vaguely recall Samurai Pizza Cats. Or maybe I'm thinking of the show where there were the cats who had jets.

The first show I ever saw any part of was either Robotech or Captain Harlock, whichever one my brother was watching then.

As for the first full anime I ever watched, I don't know the name because I saw it in Italy and I couldn't understand italian. All I can remember is a boy jumping off a bridge and landing on his enemy's shoulders.

My Neighbor Totoro (sp?) my friend's parents bought him the tape because they thought it was just another kiddie movie and it was... we watched it like 6 or 7 times in a row without getting bored. Of course at the time I didn't know it was an animè so I always thought of Dragonball Z as my first animè.

Well that depends, I suppose officially that would be Robotech, but back then I didn't even know what anime even was. I just thought it was trippy animation.

But besides Robotech, I'd say Vampire Hunter D, which the Sci-Fi channel ran some time before they got around to running Iria. Although, Iria is pretty good too...

Well unless you're talking about the live-action version, they you can just poke your eyes out.

Of course, the first anime I ever watched, knowing it was anime, was Sailor Moon. I even remember the first episode I ever saw, with the tennis-themed monster (during Nephrite's gig collecting energy for Queen Beryl). Fell in love pretty much right away, with that one.

My first anime encounter would be when I was 4 I was watching Dragonball on UPN, they showed anime for some reason. It was the episode where Oolong ate that vitamin so whenever they said "piggy" He'd have a crap attack.

I will never forget my first anime... It was 6:30 in the morning, I was a wee 6 year old lad staying at my Grandparents. Back then I hated staying with them because they are absolutely anti-technology. I knew how to use a computer and had access to the internet back home. My parents sent me with them the whole summer to try to get rid of that tech geek side of me before it developed. So they sent me to a crater in between two mountains where my grandparents lived. No cable, no color tv, toilets outside the house...it was punishment in a sense. Now I NEVER saw the local TV channels because quite frankly Puerto Rican television stinks.
Suddenly I awake from the heat...what happens next I ammount to destiny! I turn on the tv for the hell of it and what do I hear? The Ranma 1/2 theme song! It was a spanish dub and a damn good one at that! The rest of the summer I woke up at 6:00 in the morning everyday to watch my beloved first anime. I lived in the states at the time so I couldnt see it the rest of the year. For the next three years I returned there and formed a great bond with my grandparents each summer. We would all wake up early and watch the show. The next year it was taken off the air and all cartoons on that channel were never heard of again. I was devastated, heartbroken perhaps...deep in my heart I knew I must seek out more of this so called "anime".... and so my lofe long obsession with Anime began. Thank You Ranma 1/2!

Let it be known that I have the complete Ranma manga and anime to this day. It will always hold a dear spot in my heart as the first anime I ever saw.

For starters, Transformers IS NOT anime. It's an American cartoon that was SENT to Japan, and animated in Korea. Therefore, it is NOT ANIME.

My first anime? It was either StarBlazers or Ninja Scroll.

... all options presented are acceptable.

I actually saw a web page once, like forever ago, by some guy who would ask people what the first anime they ever saw was, and they'd answer oh evangelion or dragonball z or whatever, and he'd be like no, it was Noozles and you fucking loved it, don't even lie.

NOOZLES, BITCHES.

Voltron...it was my favorite show as a kid.

Now, the first anime that I actually identified as anime...that would go to Shadow Skill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_Skill). I had no real idea what was going on...but people fighting wolf monsters that, after cut, would use blood as a cutting weapon was too weird to flip by.

Lessee... My first Japanese animated piece was probably My Neighbor Totoro. I also remember renting some dumb unicorn movie when I was but a wee nerdling, called Uniko or something like that.

For anime series, I think my first was Dragonball Z. I watched it after school when I was bored, and I thought it was the most stupid thing in the known universe that was somehow still entertaining. I think I might have watched some Yu Yu Hakusho later on, too.

Then somehow I got introduced to Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, and DBZ no longer existed to me.

I think Speed Racer of G force was my first anime, but the first "known" anime was Vampire Hunter D...the cartoon network version that was incoherent and edited to hell. I recently saw the unedited version. My nostalgia was slightly crushed, but Bloodlust more than made up for that.

Sailor Moon, of course. Although of course the word "anime" didn't exist in Western civilization at that point to the best of my knowledge. xD

Well it does have lesbians in mini-skirts....

As for me, for some reason that confuses me to this day Channel Ten (a major network, our equivalent of NBC,CBS etc) was showing uncut episodes of Teknoman 5:30 weekday mornings. I was 4 at the time. So that was also the first M rated show I regularly watched, becasue it was on before my parents got up.

Edit: Teknoman sorry, there is a difference.

Fifth's right and all. Seriously, Noozles and all.

Not entirely. Voltron predates Noozles, and it was definately the first anime I saw. I know this to be fact!

The progression from my angle goes as such:

Voltron
Noozles
Speed Racer
Tenchi Muyo! (in 1993, motherfuckers!)
Dragonball (original, not DBZ, bitches!)

And after that the whole Toonami thing came into play and that's where all our paths kinda fall in line. Oh, and one more thing:

That's right up there with "I smoked the pot, but I didn't inhale." I mean, c'mon, admit it, you loved Sailor Moon; everyone does =P .

Only in the later seasons.

I did have a Sailor Moon fanisms back when I was younger, but I think that was after I got into 8-Man Again (movie), which was a complete nerd-gasm for my age. Technology enhancing humans? Two gangs fighting each other with technological bodies? A super-hero of complete machine?

FUCK YEAH

I also remember seeing Wicked City, and that too was 'holy shit' o rama. Badass gun of Firing Laser Beams? Main chick gets naked several times? This movie has everything!

First I saw would be Voltron. Didn't watch it religiously but I was kind of intrigued when main characters actually got hurt in the course of the plot omg. People don't get hurt! This is TV!

I also saw a tiny bit of Sailor Moon and Robotech back in the day, but the former was the Dic dub and I flipped the channel after 30 seconds, the latter was unfortunately when Rick Hunter was laid up and hallucinating after an injury (consulting the episode guide now that'd be #17) so I had no idea what was going on and changed the channel.

The first anime I followed, though? Rurouni Kenshin in the Samurai X dub of the series (this'd be with a few oddities like calling Yahiko "Yoshi" but otherwise leaving the series unedited.) It blew my mind, it did stuff I had never seen animation and had rarely seen television do before. I was hooked.

the first anime I remember is either the original pokemon episode and also digimon. I loved pokemon for the first 3 or so seasons, then It just got kinda repetitive. I loved digimon until it went off air. I also hear that there is a new digimon coming stateside so i will probably watch that as well.

The very first anime I remember was Voltron and man was it good (even if I wasn't old enough to understand the plot at the time). So good in fact that when Power Rangers first started airing I immediately thought "Hmm....smells like Voltron rip-off to me." The first anime I actually that was an anime was probably Ninja Scroll.

Does no one read? I already stated that the original series of TF was an AMERICAN cartoon that was sent to Japan and animated in Korea... Only the toys at that time were from Japan. The more modern versions of the show are tecnically anime, but I don't count those.

I'd say when I was about four or five, I watched the entirety of the first couple seasons/arcs of Sailor Moon by accident (my sister liked it), and watched the entirety of the Dragon Ball Z Frieza saga on purpose (they took DBZ off as soon as the Frieza arc ended). Even today, if DBZ has a high point, I would consider that period to be it, having watched the rest of the series (or I assume I have, they keep adding to it, don't they?) So as much as DBZ sucks, I did like it at the time, and it's probably the first one I really watched. But the first one I remember is Sailor Moon.

Oh, and when I was about five, my brother gave me Record of Lodoss War on tape, fan subtitled. It was awesome. The original one, not that new one they did more recently. Even as cliche as Lodoss is it was still better than DBZ, and I still like it today. Of course, it was rather bloody and violent, so of course I liked it better than the rather tame DBZ and Sailor Moon.

I remember Ashram was my hero. What a role model for a five year old, eh? :D
