Is anyone doing NaNo (http://nanowrimo.org)this November?
For those who don't know:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.
As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and -- when the thing is done -- the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
I thought it might be a cool idea for NPF to form our own NaNo clan. I know TWOP has their own every November, and I think a couple over websites have them. We can help to motivate eachother and keep us on the track to 50,000 words!

I`m in.
LOVE to write, and we both know that there are far more of us out there.
Name the genre, time and place.
If you have a specific or exact story to fill, can work to that, too.
Thanks for the invite.

Well, no, I'll make my own story. You make your own. You choose the genre, but we all work together to help eachother get over the 50,000 word limit (this is my third year, I didn't make it the first two times. Oi!)

I signed up last year, but never wrote a damn thing.

This sounds interesting, I think I'll give it a shot. Maybe at the end of November we can all post our stories (or links rather, 50k words is a bit much for a post...) and be horribly delighted by the madness of trying to cram a novel into turkey season...
or maybe I'll just keep it to myself.

It seems really interesting (especially with my recent craze with writing in my freetime), but I doubt I would be able to get 50k done, even if they gave me a year. (I always change my mind and change ideas.)

I'm definitely going to try NaNoWriMo again, though I've failed utterly in reaching the goal for the past two years.
Writing's just in my blood or something.

AHA! The light is on now.
Thank you for straightening the thoughts. :D

So we got me, Whale Biologist, Roy D Mylote, Funka Genocide, AnotherOne and possibly CelesJessa diggin' this so far?
I like the lineup.

It sounds like fun, but like (what I've gathered of) CJ, I couldn't write 50,000 words in a month. Regardless of the "don't bother correcting, etc., etc.,". I'm pretty much incapable of ignoring that little "you better go back and check to see if something was sloppily written" voice in the back of my head. :sweatdrop

I've never reached the 50k goal in two years of trying, and one of those two times I didn't even get to the 20k mark. Nonetheless I'd still say you should join in the fun even if you know, coming in, that you're not going to reach 50k words. It's an opportunity to work on a story for a month with a group of friends and have fun, and most of us won't reach the goal, but we'll work harder at it with the time constraints anyway.

I think I'll try it, too. Maybe it can help change my habit of self-grammer-naziism. Edit: Yes, I know that is misspelled.

I'll give it a shot with the rest of you guys. Not sure how good it'll be, but I'll get something done to share with you guys at the end.

I did it last year. I also had something that wasn't embarassing to get a free copy published from Lulu in January.
I'm definitely in this year. I've been planning since April. Nothing too specific, but I've got ideas.

I`m thinking that either caffeine or alchohol will help me get over that particular critical judgement. The only thing that I hope to do is find something that is shiny enough to keep me afloat and enthusiastic over the course of the whole month.
It`s really hard concentrating on one particu LOOK! A NEW COMIC! ;)
I used to be more focussed when I WAS in school. Man, I have to go back. The endless nagging of the parents will stop. :P
I need something to force me to start working on my ideas again, count me in, assuming classes haven't completely drained me of life by then.

Well, what I've found is that meeting your daily word requirements helps keep you going. Once you reach a certain level of exhaustion, your natural inclination to actually pay attention to what you're writing is somewhat diminished. And then you start writing all sorts of nonsense that makes sense at the time.
The point isn't to write a good book. Just a book.

...y'know, this is beginning to sound like a good idea. I've had a long drought going in terms of my prose, and this forced creative kick-start may be what I need to start properly writing again (can you believe, the last thing I wrote was fanfiction? I'm a little ashamed). I have an idea, even...as long as I have time to outline the plot properly...yes..."yes," she said to herself in a glimmering cloud of self-delusion, "I think I could possibly pull this off."

As far as I stand on it, I'll have to wait and see. I've been working on a story non-stop so maybe I'll be done with it by then and have a new idea to write on like a mad person.

Gah, I should totally do NaNo. However, I'm afraid Quantum Mechanics and any regular writing schedule will be mutually exclusive.
